Our son turned 18, so we took him on a little shopping spree and this store was on his list. He loves books, so what better place to shop at? As soon as we walked in the front doors, he was bouncing around the store like a pinball :) He ended up finding so many books he wanted and even unexpectedly stumbled upon a signed copy of a Michael Vey book! He was so excited! I thought it was so neat that they had those. Barnes & Noble isn't just books. They had toys, legos, games, and even some apparel. If you get thirsty, they have a Starbucks inside to quench your thirst! If you ever need help locating an item, the employees are always happy to help. Just ask and they can usually find it for you or give you an idea on where to look. I've had nothing but great experiences here. We love Barnes & Noble! read more

I have never had a bad experience here! The selection is VAST and every time I have popped in for a book that said on their website that it was available at this location- it actually has been. That's huge. A+ to whoever keeps up with their inventory. Sometimes you do have to wait in a kinda long line to check out, but my mama taught me patience and it doesn't bother me. The bookstore is not a place I go in a hurry, but a place I go to take in and enjoy the atmosphere. It is a happy, stress-free, place. read more

This store has a good selection and is a decent size. Most of the staff seems friendly and helpful. I have one major problem though--this store keeps the bathroom doors open. I feel like there's less privacy as anyone can hear if I've had stomach problems, to put it in less crude terms. I can even hear the clerks at the front of the store talking while I'm in there. I don't know what happened to cause this but I'm sure it can be prevented again, in better ways, without sacrificing our privacy. read more

I love this bookstore! As soon as I walk in, that enigma known as coffee puts me in the mood to read. Enigma, you ask? Umm yeah. I don't drink it. Had it once - it was like drinking hot 10W-30 motor oil. But I LOVE the earthy smell of it...especially while I'm reading. Hence the enigma. I love looking through the different sections, then grabbing a book that jumps out to me and sitting in one of those comfy arm chairs to read a few chapters while inhaling my coffee before I go buy my new book. I also really enjoy the magazine selections, whether I'm snagging the new season's fantasy baseball guide, or snatching up scuba magazines to plan my next dive trip, it's all right here...adjacent to a cozy chair with coffee in the air. The cafe section gets rowdy in the afternoon and I did not appreciate the workers including the ones that worked at the front desks , meeting and talking very loudly and having no consideration for anyone sitting nearby reading or working privately at the tables. Great service, however I asked for a mug for both drinks for which I was told I needed to purchase a med drink even when I wanted a tall/small size. I accepted and paid foe both med drinks only to get the med drinks in plastic cups. I did asked foe the mug and noticed a bit of attitude, so I took one drink in a plastic cup and another in a mug. Thus is minor, however I ended up with larger size foe nothing. Attention to detail!! read more

Hmm the coffee, the workers, THE BOOKS! Yes. I would stop by every morning before going to work and sometimes stop by after. The people running the cafe were courteous, always knew what I liked to drink. Their selection of books did not leave me in awe *I asked for two books, one being ANY KIND of book on tea culture or brewing and got blank stares* Once when I bought a few books i noticed my bank statement had crazy charges from B&N in increments of $5 10 & 20 and I spoke to a manager, he was a former banker, and he handled the whole situation with such professionalism Then there's the actual book staff. One was so nice & helpful to me helping me find a certain book and I was impressed by her work attitude I decided to buy her a $5 gift card for her politeness. As I open the door to the bookstore, the smell of books first wafts to my nostrils and hits my olfactory nerves like an old friend giving me a hug, then as the aroma of coffee wends over and squeezes a little, takes my hand, leading me to her bar so I can purchase a nice drink to keep me company as I browse the shelves of this wonderful home to so many characters I have yet to meet. I could spend the whole day and evening here, it is so inviting and comfortable. Open 7 days a week, into the late evening, which is nice for me, as I am a night owl. read more

ONE STAR IS TWO TOO MANY! Ordered a book on line because it was not available in the store. Made the purchase and paid for faster shipping (3 to 5 days). The book did not arrive for 8 days. But they covered themselves by saying "It's in the tracking as to when it was to be available. I didn't pay extra for 8 day shipping. I paid for 3 to 5 day shipping. Apparently it doesn't start until they get around to putting it into UPS's hands, which took them three days. There was no word that the product was not available or on back order. When I asked to have my shipping costs refunded I was told "It arrived within the time we said it would. GREAT! They told me it would arrive 3 to 5 days after they got around to it. I'm MAD AS HELL! AND I WANT EVERYONE TO KNOW IT! I WILL NEVER AGAIN BUY FROM B&N. Not even from their in-store racks. read more

I found the book I wanted on their website and I paid and said I would receive an email confirmation. Everything happened as they said it should until I received a phone call on Sunday that it is not available. I appreciate the phone call and accept the fact it was not there. The message invited me to come in and look at what they had. I did go in and found something but as I approached the counter I asked if I could get the same 15% discount , it was a straight "no" because it was not ordered online. I did not like the fact I had to place an order online to get the 15% off when I had already had it in my hand, I would of had to pick it up anyways, and besides they did not have the original book. Amazon had the same book at the same price and they were all in stock. Bad experience, you lost a customer and ready to share my experience with everyone. read more

I normally don't give one star reviews but i feel this one is well deserved. Three months ago i went in store to buy a card game called 'Who's most likely to' I payed for it and asked to have it shipped to my address. About a month later I still had not received it. I called them to ask what happened. The guy who answered was unfriendly and told me they put my address incorrectly and they'd have it fixed. A week passed and still nothing. At this point i was very unhappy and no longer patient. I called again and the gal who answered was again, unfriendly. She told me they couldn't do anything about it because UPS now had it. I would need to contact them and find it. She told me to come in store and pick up a different one they ordered. I went in thinking it would just replace the one I NEVER received but instead they made me pay for a whole new one. So now I payed for TWO games and only received ONE. They were not helpful and i am extremely disappointed. Never shopping here again. read more

I attempted to exchange a defective NOOKcolor with a visibly defective screen at this location. The manager refused to acknowledge the screen's blemishes, citing disillusioned personal experience and pseudo-intellectual technical reasons. The manager became rude and hostile and insinuated I was attempting to fraud B&N. Even though I still had my receipt and was well within the 14-day return policy, the manager wasted an hour of my time only to conclude that I would be unable to return the device. I tried to go to a saner B&N, but the manager sent emails to other locations telling them to refuse my return. Their business was very unprofessional, unreasonable, and discourteous. Unless the management changes, I would go elsewhere. read more

The girl that answered the phone, could not figure out where a book was even though she knew (and I for sure knew) that they had them, I just needed it up in the front so that I could send someone in to grab it for me. She was so lost and then was so bothered with looking that she asked me if I wanted it ordered......Um yeah, no! Cause you have it there! I love this franchise, but it is out of the way from where I live. The book selection is not as impressive as my go to store in glendale, CA. But it,s still viable. Worst experience of my life. I looked up a book on their website, Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition Player Handbook, hardcover. It came up on their website for around $30. When it said check local stores it came up as $50.00. The option for buy online and pickup in store was greyed out and said it wasn't eligible for this item. Mind you, I found the exact same book on Amazon for $26.00, but I was impatient and wanted it sooner. I called ahead and got a hold of an associate and asked if they would honor the online price in store, and she said they would, so long as I showed them the online price. I took a picture of their website on my phone, so I'd have it to present during checkout. Too bad I never got to that point. As my wife and child and I were proceeding to checkout, the only register (we knew of) was currently taken and there were two other people ahead of us. The sales rep barked out something to the effect of "You know there are other places in this store you can checkout at like the Cafe." Well, whatever, I brushed it off and myself and another customer went to the Cafe to checkout. The gal in front of me finished her purchase and I started mine. I told the sales rep at the Cafe about the price match and she said she didn't know how to do that. So, back to the checkout line we went. As we're sitting there listening to this sales rep bark out things like "Are you sure you even have a membership! Give me the number again!" I turned to my wife and I was like, "I'm done, we're outta here." We dropped our purchases on the nearest table and walked out. Worst bookstore experience of my life. Places like Barnes and Noble are meant to be a peaceful, calming, inviting place. Nope! Not only will I never visit this location again, I'll never buy from Barnes and Noble again. HAHA those two reviews are obviously from the same incident. I've shopped this barnes and noble for years and have myself met the entire management staff on different occasions. Mike, the store manager was very nice to me when I wanted to exchange a book without a receipt because it was damaged. He was able to pull up my purchase information using my membership card and I was able to get a different book. The manager can't help but follow his companys policy. The back of the receipts CLEARLY states the companies return policy and if you can't read that, the bookstore is probably not the place for you! The cafe in this coffee shop is amazing, better than most coffee shops in the area by far and I always get tremendous service from the baristas back there! I would highly recommend this store to anyone that likes books/knows how to read and enjoys coffee! HAPPY SHOPPING read more

About once or twice I week I stop by the Barnes and Nobles cafe to study and read. I love the service. The baristas there are great. Usually it's either Megan or Holly that serves there when I come in, and both do a really great job being fast, friendly, remembering my name and drink preferences, and all around just being great read more

The Layton B&N has the worst customer service. I can not believe how the older lady (Roseli S.) behind the counter treated us when we made a purchase ($53 for one book) When we asked about the price being cheaper on-line she rudely replied, that we buy it online. (That wasn't the question...) Standing there in disbelief of how rudely she responded, we then said its a no wonder people buy on-line rather than the store. She abruptly handed us our book. No Thank you for shopping with us, no nothing. As we turned to leave the counter I said, thank you for your customer service. She ignorantly said, you're welcome. I turned and said, that was sarcasm on my part and she said I know. Never will we shop with them or this company again. I would rather give $50 for a book to a company that cares about there customers experience. We recently visited the Layton, UT Barnes and Noble store. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this store and I will be letting everyone know about the awful experience my mother and I experienced. The manager was rude, condescending, and disrespectful. My mother had received a nook cover for Christmas and we went to return it, she only had the gift receipt so they wouldn't give her cash back, which we understand. However, we wanted to see if there was anything they could do because my brother had left the state and had the original receipt. In speaking to the Manager, Mike Deluna he stated, "Did you buy this? Did you receive this as a gift? Well, then you're not out of the money." He said my mom's body language showed she wasn't a nice person and that the cameras would show that while he had a smirk on his face. When I asked him to stop speaking to my mother disrespectfully, he said it was a matter of my opinion and threatened to throw me out of the store because I was making a scene. I believe something needs to be done to rectify this situation, I can NOT believe a manager would treat his customers with such disrespect. read more
