Much to love about this bookstore! I have super fond memories of walking around here while in college and looking for an inspiring book of poetry. The staff is really lovely and I'm grateful for the super clear setup. A dream spot to kill some time with your little one and instill a nice love of reading. The children's area is large and not overly crowded most of the time. The space also has a very large music and media section upstairs with records, DVDs, and much more. While I prefer to shop our smaller bookstores, there's something about coming in here to kill time and let your mind wander. I came here after a particularly off day and found myself reconnecting with my love of reading and really trying to commit to buying more physical books. They have resources to help you find whatever it is you're looking for and a nice cafe area to grab a coffee while you browse. Recently we had to get a tire replaced, and we ended up at the Dunn Tire just down the street. While we were waiting we decided to explore! I saw on my map app there was a Barnes & Noble nearby, and it sounded like a great place to spend our time. Because I love books. And I have always loved the atmosphere at Barnes & Noble stores! I was not prepared for how huge this store was. My daughter said it was a "castle for books", and she was right. Two gigantic floors. Not just books, but music and movies also. And a Starbucks cafe! I was immediately impressed. It was just so beautifully laid out. Organized and clean. Sections were labeled and easy to find, and each one had a ridiculously impressive selection of books. For kids and young readers they also had a plethora of other fun things - plushies, toys, puzzles, art books with included mediums (chalk, marker, paint), science and discovery kits. We could have browsed for hours! If there is ever a zombie apocalypse I definitely plan to come here, because I think I could live here forever. 5 stars, highly recommend! read more

I went into the Pittsford store this morning, Black Friday, at 8:00 am. I asked at the information kiosk if a certain book was in the store. She told me no. I went home, found the Pittsford store online. I found the book in the store that the clerk said was not in the store. I ordered it online for in-store pickup and paid for it with my credit card I was not given my membership discount. I do not think I should lose my discount because of employee incompetence by ordering online. How can I get my discount applied? I contacted B&N: The policy wonk said orders online get free shipping not a discount. Since they did not ship anything, I think an exception should be made. Your mileage may vary. read more

I have been here more times than I can count. I use to have their B&N card to get discounts but I found that sometimes when I wanted something specific it was a no go and had to order it from Amazon. This is a very large location, staff is either on point or aloof and I get it totally. They have a Starbucks inside a plus and during the holiday season they do have good sales on stuff. Be aware during the holidays there will be lines to check out. It's a good place to kill time before a move next door or to find a quick gift/book/magazine. I give this location more of a 3.5... you can also order online from them. It's worth a quick visit but.. they share a parking lot a large one with other retailers so that's a plus. read more

This is the best B&N I've ever been in. The selection is the same as most, and the employees I've encountered have been pleasant enough, although I got the only help I needed from the computer provided for searching. It's wonderfully calm, as there are no crowds, even on a Saturday afternoon (I noticed quite a few students studying at the tables provided, and they actually looked like they were getting things done). And most importantly, there are more soft, comfortable chairs/couches than I have EVER seen in a bookstore. It doesn't matter what errands my girlfriend needs to run. She can go get a manicure, get her hair cut, buy some groceries at the Wegman's across the street, see some guys on the side...I don't care as long as I can sit my ass down here and read Game of Thrones to my heart's content. (Because let's be honest, at $32 for the hardcover, I'm going to wait until you buy it for me, or read the entire thing in bookstores, a bit at a time.) read more

It has escalators that kids enjoy, lots of reading space, a built in Starbucks, and a kids/toys section. I'm in love with this B&N. Setting aside its massive scale and impressive stock, the staff have always seemed helpful and friendly, with the exception of a few seasonal staff who seem to want nothing more to do with the books than the paychecks they provide. I can forgive the store that small issue given the need to higher and the fact that Rochester is indeed a college town. Great seasonal deals, as well. I recommend asking counter staff anytime you go in if there are any promotions running, though to be fair these may be company wide? I know the RIT B&N runs mirror promos often enough.... read more

What can I say, I love book stores. This store does not cater to casual sitting around like it used to, nor does it stock and carry as many books as it used to, but I guess that's due to the electronic age, nooks and kindles? I was in the store yesterday and I particularly like that this store has an Annex, where I can find discounted books, out of print, and nice calendars that I give out for Christmas. It also has a coffee shop, that's nice if you want a hot cup of coffee too. I like to support this store as I do like to read. My review is probably biased, for me it's a nice break, and a chance to browse authors I would not normally look at online. They also have a book club membership, but you need to buy quite a bit to make up for the annual fee. read more

This is one of the best places to come and kill some time. I like to show up in Pittsford Plaza way early before a movie, just so I can have a cup of coffee, and spend some time perusing through the latest and greatest. The downstairs features the very large children's section, stocked with books, book-related paraphernalia, and toys. The middle of the downstairs has Nooks, and tech-related accessories. There are also tables with staff picks and classics. If you head to the right, there is your travel & lovely language section. This bookstore was the only one in Upstate NY that I was able to find a decent Persian dictionary. Lastly, there is a board game section and a used books area to pick from that were gently loved. Upstairs, you will take the escalator and find yourself facing the cooking, and nutrition, and all of the music related stuff is on the left. I prefer to be upstairs, because that is where the comfy chairs are. I almost wish they had more of those chairs. I used to go there when I was a Nazareth student, just to quietly study in a different environment. Go get a Starbucks Latte, and get lost for a bit! read more

I find this place to be like a mini vacation. A nice quiet get away where you can get lost in whatever you choose to let capture your interest that day. I like the many options for children and the nice children section at this location. It has one of the biggest kid sections. I come here often for childrens toys even though at times the price is ridiculously high. I do like the variety and the many options of creative/learning toys though, that they have to offer. My only frown about this place is the ridiculous cost of books. I usually will browse around and find books I like and while still there search amazon for the same books which I can usually find at lower cost. All in all I still think it would be awesome to have my own private barnes and nobles built into my home lol...minus the workers though. MINE I SAY! :) read more

When contacted on the phone ahead of time they were not all that cooperative in facilitating the community using the community room for an hour. Again in person, not particularly hospitable. This was humorous as another employee brought us samples from the cafe trying to encourage us to purchase some. Isn't it amazing that just 15 years ago, we were all bemoaning the existence of Borders and Barnes & Noble because they were driving small bookshops out of business, and now these giants can barely stay afloat?! This Barnes & Noble has been my second home ever since I moved to this city, so much so in the beginning, that I was asked by acquaintances, "Has B&N taken out its restraining order on you yet?" Yep, that was me. The girl at the bookstore with her books, camped out for hours, studying everyday. I knew all the regulars. It was a silent and steadfast club we had there for awhile. This Barnes & Noble is a Mecca of bookstores. You walk in, look up, see the second level of books, feel the quiet activity inside, and immediately feel at peace. Well, at least I do. Everything is organized exquisitely. I have appreciation for the witty notes on the employees' book choices and the carefully curated book displays. The employees at the bookstore and the Starbucks cafe have never been less than polite and helpful. Smart, since I've probably spent hundreds of dollars here over the years (my living room is testament to this). Studying here is perfect for me because I can tune out the activity with headphones and take breaks as I go to different sections and let my imagination take the lead. I'll get lost in the latest books on Lincoln, laugh over the latest chick lit, look at maps of Paris or read snippets from the latest conservative or liberal conspiracy theory books. The beauty here is that anything is possible and bookstores with REAL, LIVE books that you can touch and feel are reminiscent of childhood days that were spent lost in other worlds, as characters that I could never hope to be in real life. I feel like so much is lost with the Nook and Kindle. Every time I go to this bookstore - one of the very last in our area - it pains me to see the books receding and the Nooks growing. Children and adults just don't read that much anymore. And yet reading is so vital to keep people in touch with imagination, empathy and humanism. Having the ability to imagine oneself in someone else's shoes or in a different place breeds empathy and tolerance in the real world. When that goes away, the world starts becoming a very dark place. It is rare that I buy myself a book since I mostly just get them from the library or a free download from iTunes but I get my nieces books from here and I love to come hang out here every once and a while. This past weekend I came and got a book for one of the girls and was happy that they had the book I wanted since it isn't that popular. I also love to look around and see what else they have. They have such a great selection of books and it is nice to look around and see all of them and pick out some I would like to read at some point. I always make sure I am logged into my Good reads App so I can add the titles to my want to read list. This is also a great place to quietly hang out and look at some books you may or may not want to buy or read in the future. The store is huge and offers a lot of variety. Some of the books can be pretty expensive but just look around. They have a used section so you may be able to find what you want there. Also, since I get my books online or at the library having to pay more than a dollar is expensive to me but I just deal if I really want the book. Overall, a pretty great store with great selection. I have also only had positive interactions with the staff. I am a fan. read more

Not only did I go to this B&N on a regular basis when we lived in Rochester, but I was literally there on the very first day it opened. It's a comfortable store, so you could easily spend about a half-day there and I was known to do that. In addition, I love the way they renovated a former department store (so the interior is actually *beautiful*). The staff were always very pleasant, too - and the café is a good size, plus I never had a problem finding a free table. read more

Rude staff: How many Starbucks emblems can you count from the counter? I saw five, and I'm sure that there are more. Better question: Did you see were it says that they do not accept Starbucks gift cards? Of course not, because it's not displayed. It's pretty bad that you don't take Starbucks gift cards in the first place, but I wouldn't have purchased a drink if I had known that I can't use my Starbucks gift card. Customer service tip: the appropriate response would be: "I'm sorry, we don't take starbucks gift cards" instead of saying, with a snotty attitude, "we are not a Starbucks, we only sell their coffee". I was a HUGE B&N fan when I lived in Arizona, since moving to Rochester in 2006 I almost exclusively shopped at Borders. I loved Borders but just like many relationships it was going to end sometime. Borders is gone and I have to move on now. Now that I got THAT over with... Barnes and Noble in Pittsford is beautiful. Two floors and even though it was a Friday night it was in perfect order. They have a nice section of Used books in addition to their regular selection which I think is handy. We encountered at least 3 very friendly and helpful employees and we left with 2 more books than we intended as well as a membership. Got the membership coupons in my e-mail yesterday and since I am an avid reader the coupons (and membership) should prove to be very useful. The Starbucks however does not take Starbucks gift cards when I last checked (months ago). Next time I go back (likely this weekend) I will check when I get my soy latte to go with my newest novel and will update accordingly. read more

The mothership! I love the Pittsford Barnes & Noble. The selection is better here than at the Greece or Webster stores. The staff is always very friendly and helpful whenever I have to go to the Customer Service Desk. Since I'm a B&N member I huge discounts on books, DVDs, CDs, etc that the store carries and there is a very diverse selection to choose from. There is also a large used book selection by the Starbucks and the amount and range of books you can get on sale is very impressive. read more

Great overstuffed chairs to sit and read, a coffee shop for snacks, vinyl music and a community room currently featuring local art. My type of place and I would sleep here if I could!!! read more

The exterior of this Barnes & Noble is seriously beautiful it just makes you want to park your car and walk right up to get some serious studying done. The problem, is that once you get inside, there is nowhere to plug your laptop in to get any work done. The cafe is a decent size but I searched high and low to find an outlet and there wasn't one. When I asked the worker behind the counter about outlets, she told me there were tons of tables upstairs with plenty of outlets. Perfect! So I thought. I headed up the escalator, yes escalator, this place is massive! When I got to the top, I walked the entire perimeter with no luck finding one table. Not one. Confused as to where these tables and outlets may be, I found an employee upstairs. I asked her where the tables were and she gave me a very confused look. She said she didn't know if there were any upstairs. Huh? That's just something I would assume would be known. Needless to say after walking around the entire bookstore I left because the place was not conducive to studying, which is very unfortunate because I could see myself spending a lot of time here if they had outlets. Brings back a whole ton of nostalgia for my time at Rochester. I have spent many evenings browsing the wide selection of fiction, wandering through the children's book section for the sheer joy of revisiting all the mistakes of Amelia Badelia, or looking through the finds in the used/clearance books here. This is a huge store with ample parking, a starbucks inside, and many places to study or unwind. Really recommend this particular B&N in this location. read more

This review is strictly for the cafe. I just ordered (and regretfully consumed) the gluten-free chicken fingers with sweet potato chips. Don't be fooled by the flowery description and lovely photo on the menu; this was worse than the worse airplane food I have had riding in coach. They were like frozen Tyson chicken nuggets coated in wet cardboard. Disgusting. Maybe there are some better things on the menu, and if I'm ever desperate enough to try them I may change this review. read more

I love a good bookstore and obv have been to BNs before but the complete lack of seating in this one is pathetic! We are talking 3 small couches for a very large two story bookstore.
