As someone who can spend hours in just about any bookstore, I am not incredibly picky. BUT this store's organization and customer service is really awful. You're competing with amazon, you are really trying to sell the nook. I get it. You have devoted half your store and several of your employees to the nook section. Okay. BUT since you still sell books they need to be some of your focus. They have removed books by new authors, but them in the very back of the store and NOT in alphabetical order by author. (they were in a random order... maybe by release date?) Needless to say, I had a book club book that I was looking for and couldn't find it. Then comes my experience with the customer service desk. I had to wait a little bit, but I didn't even take a star away for that. They were busy for a Thursday morning and understaffed. That wasn't the employee's fault. It was my turn, he looked my book up in the computer and found that they did have copies of my book in the store. He goes ' they're in the back. it is kinda random how they're arranged back there.' Clearly it is random, that is why I came to ask you. Reluctantly he walked me back with and found the book. Barnes and Noble, just put your new release books in alphabetical order by author like every other book store I have ever been to and I won't have to bother your employees. read more

I love books! Yes, I do love them very much. Especially cooking books and books about science. I do like Barnes & Noble very much but after I experienced what it is like to be in a real non-chain bookstore like the one near downtown Denver (Tattered Cover) and in downtown Los Angeles (Last Bookstore), chain bookstores are just eh for me. The good thing about this location is if you are a college student it is close to the Denver University and Johnson & Wales campuses. Also, this is next to the only 24-hr Starbucks within the city of Denver. Just in case you have to get some work or school work done! read more

Nope. I can tolerate, Barnes and Noble, bookstores in general I love, but this one's just not up to par. There's not one area for you to sit and read a magazine or a book. I walked around the entire store and couldn't find one comfy chair. I saw a lot of people sitting on stools meant for using to reach high shelves. But no chairs. If you want to sit down you have to go to the tiny little Starbucks next door. Which is hardly quiet enough to enjoy reading... Plus its fused with Game Stop. That alone ruins the essence of a bookstore for me. Barnes and Noble is corporate so I guess I should have kept my expectations low as far as a bookstore goes. But no chairs? Really? Come on. To me, a bookstore is an experience. You don't just walk in and out. You go in, walk around, open some books, take your time. You browse. There's a certain smell that I like, a quietness that I like, but this one just feels... corporate. The shelves are practically stacked on top of one another. Welp, my partner and I walked in, asked for help at a computer station, and we're told we had to go to the customer service counter where "they're helping people right now". Because the computer we were standing at was for "clocking in and stuff". We were helped at that same computer to find a book 3 days previous. But sure. We decided to browse instead. I don't really appreciate the smell of clear-cut forests, though, so I took a seat. Immediately a customer was helped by a random staff, at the same computer, when they crossed paths. Starting with what I like, the staff are tremendously helpful. After hearing a radio interview about a new book, I passed the store and decided to pick it up. I forgot the author's name, but I gave a very nice gentleman the title, and he came back with the last copy in the store. Didn't point me in the direction of the book: he put it in my hand. Perfect. Thank you. Also, I think I can officially kiss my youth goodbye with the following old man-ish observation: I was thoroughly encouraged by the number of kids and teenage dates I found voluntarily perusing the store that snowy evening. Sure, some of them were pontificating loudly, trying to impress a girl. But I'm not sure I haven't done that at some point. And a girl impressed by your knowledge of 19th Century Russian lit is a girl worth impressing. It gets three stars only in comparison to the welcome spectrum of new and used independent stores. If I want something new from a big corporation, I'll check Amazon and save my pennies. If I want to browse and be compelled to buy something, I'll head somewhere else. Sorry, guys. read more

Honestly I'm grateful Barnes and noble is still up and running. It offers me so many resources while drinking a coffee or tea from Starbucks, which is attached to the store. The store is clean and the employees are kind and knowledgeable. For a bookstore in Denver, they're doing great work. Books are expensive but that goes along with needing to maintain a large store and less people buying physical books. To me, the price is worth my experience there. read more

I received a Nook reader as a Christmas gift, and visited Barnes and Noble shortly after to get some advice on setting it up. I worked with Mark, and learned a great deal about the tablet. I then put it down for a couple of weeks, and when I went back to it, could not remember my password to log in! I am considered computer illiterate, for good reason. I looked over the emails I received during setup, and made a decision to contact Samsung for assistance. That was a very stupid move! They counseled me to go to the root command section, and wipe out all the data. I then tried to rebuild it, and had absolutely no luck. I went back into Barnes and Noble this afternoon seeking their assistance and guidance. I was placed into to the very capable hands of Melinda, one of the managers. After going through a number of steps, she realized what I had done, and could not recover the B&N setup. Without hesitation, she went back to the counter, and gave me a brand new unit! She could not have been nicer!!!!! Mark then took over again, to help me with the setup of the new unit. Once again, he was great to work with, extremely patient and helpful. Suffice it to say, I will use this B&N store whenever I need assistance, which will likely occur in the future. Thank you, Melinda and Mark, you are the best!!!! read more

Oh B&N on Colorado, how I used to love you so. But then I realized I can do better. I pretty much hate you! I hate your inadequate seating that people hog all day and, even when they get up to go to the bathroom or peruse for thirty minutes, leave their purse or jacket to stake their claim. I hate that most of all. I hate that after so many years of knowing right where every book section was, you uprooted it all to put in a section for teachers. I think teachers are very important, and I know they need a place to get their teaching tools, but now I can't find any of the books I want! I hate that there is never anyone around to help me when I can't find the books I need due to the fact that you reduced your regular inventory and crammed it even smaller to appease teachers and bring in another source of revenue. Guess what? By doing that, you just lost mine. I will still come to you. You are crazy close to my apartment and I like getting a coffee to go with my book reading. Of course, there is never any place to sit (except the floor) with a good book and a coffee. I will go when I need something fast, but I'm sorry, I love the Tattered Cover soooo much more. I find a chair to sit EVERY time I go there! Goodbye B&N. It was fun while it lasted :( read more

I am a firm believer in using your local library for all of your reading needs, but sometimes, you just need to have that book RIGHTNOW. Especially when everyone else in Colorado has the same idea and that book you need RIGHTNOW is checked out across the state. Cue Barnes and Noble! Chances are the best seller that you're searching for is right up front, so be sure to look. I've spent an inordinate amount of time looking high and low for books only to discover them up front or on end caps. I've also spent way too much time in this store because it's layout is super weird to me; it's not very intuitive. I mean, there's a giant Nook section smack dab in the middle, mucking up the flow. Oh well. B&N is a great place to spend some time simply wondering around and checking out new books. My recommendation? Find something you like and go check it out from your library. But if you must buy a book, B&N is a great place to come in a pinch. Pro tip! The Starbucks next door is stellar! I love that location. read more

One thing about B&N is that you can always find what you are looking for. If they don't have it, they'll order it. Of course, then you have to wait for the shipment but that's a test in patience more than anything. This store is A-OK - that's about all I can muster. On occasion I have encountered some snooty employees. I don't understand how you can work with books and be such a sour puss. But, I do understand that everyone has a bad day. More often than not the employees are really nice and helpful but beware it's not always the case. Just smile and do your thang. The location of this store is pretty cool because there is a lot of activity in the area. I like that they have plenty of places to sit and even a little patio outside. There's also a full service Starbucks that really adds to the whole book buying experience. Have a drink, stay a while. What do you have to lose? The selection of books and audio/visual media is on par with most other B&N locations. They have a lot of gifts at this store so you can probably do a one stop shop during X-mas. Or, if you're like me and you just need to buy a book, you'll be in a good spot to do so at this store. Yay reading! read more

This Barnes and Noble is large and has an excellent selection of books. It always takes me a while to find the books I am looking for though. I don't know if it's the store layout or the fact that there aren't many staff out on the sales floor. It's a good book store, but doesn't quite have the same ambiance of Tattered Cover. read more

The good: this place is pretty sizable, with a ton of books. The bad: it can be pretty damn hard to find what you're looking for on your own. The weird thing is that the store is separated into genres, but often times WAY too specific genres (I'm looking at you, "Paranormal teen fiction") Good luck finding what you need without asking someone. Also not the coziest bookstore in that there's nowhere to plop down and read a little bit. I know you want me to buy the books and not just read them, but come on...make it feel a little more cozy. Still, proximity to where I live means I'm back often. Not a bad stop, just could be better. read more

I went into this Barnes & Noble location this morning to pick up a children's book I walked into that area and about 30 feet behind me I heard a female voice yell can I help you? Surely she wasn't talking to me. Then I heard her scream, sir can I help you! I turned around and she looked at me and I said, are you talking to me and she said yes and is there something I can help you with again and I said I am fine thank you. I picked up the book left went to pay at the counter no one was at the counter for close to 10 minutes. The cashier was then extremely pushy to become a Barnes & Noble member and I said no thank you and after paying he handed me my receipt and said here's your bookmark and laughed. I will never return to a Barnes & Noble at any location. read more

I can't remember the last time I was in a bookstore, as I am a Kindle and Oyster user (I've moved too much recently to ever care about acquiring more books to unpack). The service here is very friendly. My daughter was looking for a specific book, and when asked if she needed help, requested the book. The associate went to the computer to make sure they had it, searched a couple of tables and in the back room, and produced it. Very nice! The selection here, I guess, is robust. Again, I am not a regular bookstore customer. When I checked out, I was offered the rewards program. I used it long ago when I was a regular patron of bookstores, but it doesn't make sense for me to buy it now. The associate was a little pushy about it, and I know, it's her job, but I was just trying to pay and get out of there. read more

Not sure why this place has such bad reviews because I found so much loot here! I love supporting my local bookstore back in Durango but this Barnes and Noble was located really close to where we were staying so I had to check it out. It was nicely organized and not too crowded :) They were having a special on coloring books so I bought a couple of those, and I found a cool mother-daughter journal book, a Japanese language book, and a legit BIRD book with full color photos. This B&N...I love books. I can't say that enough. Sure, I can't always find an associate, but I generally don't need one either. Pretty good book selection, especially on cheap books. Don't get me started on the bargain books! Holy crap, I love the bargain sections. I can't go without buying a humongous stack of bargain books. Le sigh. It's very clean. I saw one of the most offensive things in my entire life at this location. There's an African American section (which is already small) tucked near the back of the store. It's not the size, however that's blatantly disrespectful. The bottom two rows are not works of African American literature at all, instead, the bottom two rows are filled with nothing but books on the growth and consumption of marijuana. If that's not extremely offensive for pickups reasons, then clearly manager of the store needs some sensitivity training. I refuse to purchase anything from this location our any other location until this is corrected. I will also continue to share this disgusting story with as many people as possible in hopes that they'll take their business elsewhere as well. read more

Once upon a time, people actually read real books and were fairly well versed in classic and contemporary literature. There were bookstores aplenty and people could browse them freely to stoke their imaginations and partake of the knowledge they bestowed from their rich pages which you could turn and feel and smell the parchment of real printed paper in your hands. Those days, it seems, are quickly becoming a thing of the past. Bookstores are going out of business thanks to the advent of digital media. From Walden books to Borders, the big retailers are closing up shop and even the smaller bookstores like Black & Read are becoming few and far between. I remember a time when Barnes and Noble used to have a fairly good selection of paperbacks, hardcovers, and magazines in stock. You could browse the shelves for hours and relax comfortably in chairs. Now it seems, only the most recent and trendy titles are carried in-store forcing you to buy online. They've dispensed with their inventory selection of catalog titles in favor of devoting more than half of their real estate to selling digital e-readers like the Nook, their house branded answer to competitor Amazon's Kindle. That being the case, Amazon undercuts them on prices by far and you're better off just ordering online from Amazon instead. Barnes and Noble still exists, it seems, as a simple convenience to those who are looking to find some kind of instant gratification. That is... The layout of the store is kind of confusing. Example. I needed a book on Buddhism and the Religion section is mixed in with the nursing section. They could use more seats and tables for you to read the book you just bought or surf on your laptop while drinking coffee. Borders has enough tables to go around. The employees are friendly and help you find what your looking for which is never a Problem at Barnes and Noble, though i never do buy enough books to pay for their Membership program which is pushed on me all the time. It should be free, we already buy the books or magazines so why charge?? read more

I am waffling, hard, between the 2 and 3 star ratings here. I am reading all the other reviews here. I am finding I have a lot of common complaints with the other reviewers -- to wit, I know this isn't a library -- you want me to buy the books you stock, and GTFO. Fine. But...oh wait, I haven't had the chance to peruse the *other* 2 books I grabbed on top of the one I really wanted!! I *WOULD* have, but since there's such a woeful lack of seating -- especially empty seating...*I GUESS I'LL HAVE TO PUT THEM BACK ON THE SHELF.* Oh wait, you'll do that for me, right? Even better. -_- In a multimedia and Internet-fueled social-media populace, one would THINK it would make good business sense to shell out $10000 for 2 dozen more really comfortable chairs. Or even, if you have to segregate us, make a "reading room" in the back where we can enjoy cracking open a good novel, photo book or magazine. But no -- apparently hasn't occurred to the corporate drones over in Big Businessland. And that's what's gonna get you killed eventually, B&N. Not the fact that you carry a slew of books. Not the fact that you carry music too. Not the fact that you've partnered with a video-games outlet next door. Not even the fact that you reorganized the entire store and made it more difficult to beeline for places I used to know. Nope -- it's gonna be your lack of vision in terms of catering to the customer. And that's a damned shame, because otherwise, your store's fairly attractive. Well-lit, large selection, usually helpful salespeople (if you manage to locate and lasso one down)...You're close to me, and you're on a well-trafficed street, so those are good points but...you could do better. Not quite enough suckage to drop you down to 2 stars though...this time. (Fortunately for you, you've been surrounded by enough mainstream and hipster stores like Sport Clips, modmarket, Cheeseburger Connection, pinkberry and others that you'll probably manage to thrive a few years longer -- but again, in the current day and age...better watch your back.) read more

Surprised at how low he rating is! I know this is a huge chain store, but before you tell me how I should be supporting local book stores, make sure your closet is not filled with Forever 21 or Nordsroms. This store is huge but has a very small, laid back, and local feel. It is very well organized and has a lot of space. Minus one star for: The line is always very long & sometimes service could be better, although they are always really nice. I used to TOLERATE this store. Now I find it truly repulsive. This is a sterile, impersonal corporate box, something it was always designed to be, the staff ensure that it stays this way. Lots of magazines, books, etc-- but who cares. I'm an internationally known author or 8 books, published by one of the largest houses in Europe, and have a couple of best selling books in my subject area. I'm published on Amazon, Kindle, and yes, PubIt with B&N. So I needed help today seeing what size images in my book would show on their new Nook Touch. Previously I bought a Color Nook there $250. Sony Style store in the stuck up Cherry Creek Mall were very cooperative and happy to help me, and let me look at my new book on their display model Sony Readers. Nice people. I do business there, and will continue. But at B&N? I received a blunt corporate turn down- from both a regular minimum wage pawn, as well as the store manager, whom I politely asked for help. He robotic response? "That's not our policy". B&N lost $57 Million this years-- all in their stores. No surprise considering the lack of personal help I received today- help that would have done nothing but improved their customer relations. So, I'll go buy a Nook Touch tomorrow, look at my book, and return the thing in a day. Instead of helping an author, a customer, they now have soured me to what I already perceived as sub-par retailing. And they'll be out the cost of a returned Nook Touch. read more

I love Barnes and Nobles. No it is not a Tattered Cover or anything like that, it's a publicly traded company people! And it feels like that. When going to Barnes and Nobles I don't expect a lounge-like atmosphere. I am there to buy books and browse a little bit but no to sit down and break the spine of every book in the place, and then walk out without buying anything. The people here are always very helpful and I have never had them not be able to find a book for me. Going to the adjoining Starbucks late at night during the summer is always great for people watching, so entertaining! The only thing I don't like about B&N is their focus on and huge amount of floor space used for the nook. I get that it's their new thing but I am just an old fashioned paperback and hardcover book girl, so I miss the books that used to be there before the nook. Overall, I think B&N does a great job. read more

I was fairly impressed with this Barnes and Noble - very clean and well-organized. I tend to enjoy looking at books in person rather than buying them online, especially knitting and crafting titles. Huge children section with a train playset table that kept my toddler busy the whole time we were there. After seeing all the bookstores close in the town where I used to live, it's nice to know there are a few of these around. read more

This is a decent location connected to GameStop and the late-night Starbucks. One of the rare locations I see people hanging out in here and actually getting a read. Maybe because of the next-door neighbors there's a lot more people than your usual B&N. Always clean and well-lit here. read more

I will NEVER shop at Barnes and Noble again!!! I ordered a text book on Sunday and requested it be sent 2nd day. I still don't have it!! Horrible, horrible customer service. After I waited in line for a good minute/2 minutes with no one else in line behind me and I walk up to the register to have Thomas M ring me up for a book I reserved online and he tells to me that the line starts after you walk around their long row of whatever to enter the line and I just stood behind the lady in front of me as a couple had "entered" there for maybe 30 seconds right before this interaction. And had them go up first and had me walk around. For what? That's bullshit that after I waited in line because i didn't read a sign. Do better and buy on Amazon and wait a couple of days. read more

As a customer, I'd find it easier to shop if people didn't have their coffee cups or trash left on the shelves, nothing worse than picking up a book that has coffee or something sticky all over it. To CB, you were probably doing something you shouldn't have been doing and are mad you were caught. Seriously, it is hard to be able to shop when there are people loitering or squatting in all corners of the store so that you can't shop certain shelves or be able to get something. It is also hard to be able to look at the e-readers if people are using that area like a public computer lab, I mean do you go to Apple and use their ipads to download your email or facebook on their store devices? Or go to a tmobile or verizon store to use their display phones to make personal calls? Go to a library or for people who like to hold meetings and conferences, go to a coffee shop or somewhere with a conference room. It is a bookstore not a library or public computer lab or conference center. I'd like to be able to shop the shelves without having to reach over someone. Huge store with lots of shelves and selection. Fast shipping, and has held great author signings. Good to see popular authors come to our neighborhood and great city. read more
