I go to this Barnes and Noble a lot and I am never disappointed. Their selection is always great, the store is always clean, and the workers are always helpful when I ask but when I just want to browse they leave me to browse which is something I really appreciate. I do want to shout out one worker in particular, I never caught her name but a man had come up to my husband and I asking us for money and she quickly saw the situation and pulled him aside and diffused the situation. She didn't kick him out and made sure everyone was comfortable in the store and I really appreciated that. I also love how the Starbucks in this location is so open and there are so many tables where I can get some work done or just sit comfortably and read. The baristas at the Starbucks are also very good and they have never once messed a drink up. Definitely my favorite Barnes and Noble in the are.a read more

This is "my" Barnes & Noble. Yup, the one that I basically grew up in. I can remember spending countless days here during high school and college. When I was in college, I worked across the street at Charming Charlie and would often come over on my lunch break for coffee, food and just to have somewhere to sit, chill and relax! I've also had several friends work here as well. This place is very nostalgic for me (especially as a longtime membership holder lol, those discounts come in handy!) I'm a bookworm (and hoarder) and although I love a good indie bookstore, let's be honest, I love Barnes & Noble too! I popped in on Saturday to check out some of the new African American fiction books. Well, actually - I stopped in for a gift for my best friend, but I couldn't help but get carried away into my favorite genre. I can remember when the new, Black fiction books only had a small table behind the help desk in the back of the store, now they have a whole space in the fiction area, with several bookshelves filled with Black fiction! This makes it so easy for me to come in and check out some new releases and snag some classics by my favorite authors. I used to sleuth through the entire fiction section (which is very large) to find certain titles I was looking for, but those days are long gone! Thanks B&N! I did find a gift for my best friend, a really nice daily devotional book and a Christian bookmark. The Christian and religious literature section is massive and I love the little gift ideas they have in that section as well. Checking out is always hard on me though, they have the BEST upselling techniques because all the really cool stuff is at the register! Need peace and quiet... this is it. I normally come here and let the kiddos roam while I look around as well. We spend 1-2 hours there walking around. They always have great deals. Join the membership for deals. It does work out in the end if you go there often and shop online with them. The staff is always helpful and friendly. The cafe is cute. Very large Barnes & Noble with a wide selection of just about anything you'd want. Obviously, they tend to cater to more popular titles -- even with contemporary popular authors. So they may not have specific niche things that you're looking for (in my case, specific books from a particular series of chapter books). If they don't have it though, they are happy to order it for you through their customer service center. Pro tip -- If you are shopping and the lines are HUGE (as they are now especially at the holidays), buy yourself a cookie/coffee at the cafe and check out your entire order there. They rarely have lines and are happy to process your entire transaction for you. And then you have caffeine too! Also, always a good selection of chocolates around that section -- if you're an addict to good chocolate like I am! read more

To occupy my time, I wanted to pick up a good read. Well, thanks to this Barnes & Noble, I was able to find this interesting book. This bookstore is less than 5-10 minutes from the hotels and surrounded by a host of restaurants and other stores such as Target, H&M, CVS, Food Lion, and Walgreens. When you're on travel, it's nice to easy access to such amenities. Great location. read more

What can I say. I loved this Barnes and Nobles. I am very upset that they closed the location in Towne Pointe locates in Virginia Beach. I prefer the Barnes and Nobles location that are not attached to a big mall. They have more selection and you can relax and take your time in there without having to worry about paying for parking. This Barnes and Nobles location was just dreamy. I picked up and agenda and two PD books. Sorry for no pics. I was in the zone! . I highly reccomend this location above other ones. Quite nice for a Barnes and Noble with a few seats scattered about and the usual coffee shop. I noticed a lot of books that were sitting around to be reshelved, but it was the end of the evening and I guess that work harder on that after hours. Shelves were well stocked and organized. read more

This Barnes & Noble store is located in the bustling Peninsula Town Center. I can remember the old B&N store that existed before the old Coliseum Mall was razed and rebuilt. This store is aesthetically pleasing -- I'm a huge fan of brick and mortar -- the rebuild merits much praise. Parking: Abundant. However, I've noticed that there's a fenced off area in the front parking lot where it appears a restaurant is coming. Either case, there's still parking in the adjacent JC Penny parking lot, the side and to the rear of B&N. Be advised that the parking in the rear of the store (the side that faces into the town center) and along the side of the building are metered. The parking in the JC Penny lot is free but you'll have to cross a street to get to B&N. Interior: Typical B&N layout. No real surprises to speak of. When you enter from the front the registers are on your left hand side and the cafe is on the right. It's a well sized store but all on one level. From outside it looks like a 2-story building but I believe the upstairs portion is solely for staff/storage usage. To the rear (or front, depending on if you choose to enter from the town center side) there's the music section. I can remember a time when I spent hours in B&N reading magazines and listening to samples of music. It strikes me odd to see CDs...I'm a mp3 junkie now. The cafe is spacious with quite an abundant amount of seating. There's free wifi but not many places to plug your electrical devices in to recharge...bummer. Staff: I can only speak and rate from MY personal experience from the times I've visited this store; I've never encountered a problem with the customer service. They aren't exactly the most engaging types but anytime I've asked for help finding something they happily obliged. Final thoughts: Newest B&N that I know of in the metro area and I like the fact that its located in a bustling location so that I can multitask if the need ever arises. Barnes & Noble has been the premiere store in the Hampton Roads area for books in my opinion. I usually always find the exact book I am and looking for. They now offer price matching to their online prices, which can offer great deals, even for new releases. The staff is very helpful and are swift in their assistance. They have a nice Starbucks cafe shop, in which I wish had bigger tables outlets for computer use. read more

I love books and I love Barnes and Noble. If you've never been, it's... it's just magical. As part of a holiday shopping tour I recently stopped by to get some kids books for my nephews and nieces. While I'm usually pretty pragmatic about these kinds of errands (I don't dilly dally when I shop) in this place I just sort of melt into it all: the books, toys, coffee and comfy arm chairs. I just want to settle in and never leave. It's clean and bright and the color scheme is lovely. It's like visiting the hundred acre woods, but with an emphasis on learning. He acted put out that he had to ring me out, then when I gave him my phone number to look up my membership he yelled at me to slow down. Then he began to call me "one of those people". I would give this location four to five stars if not for the Starbucks. I like to order coffee and enjoy my books or browse the titles with it. I also sometimes like to come here and work or read for a bit before going on my way. It's part of my experience and why I love going to Barnes and Noble versus just buying on Amazon and drinking coffee at my home. If you want to enjoy a bad attitude and mediocre "barista" and customer service experience, go to this Starbucks. Waste time and money. It's a shame because the manager is super-nice, friendly and helpful. When she's working, she really embodies the true Starbucks experience. The workers? Not so much. Oftentimes my drink is made incorrectly or when I ask for sugar-free, I'm given syrup that has sugar (and trust me, you can taste the difference). I went in there to get a King James Version Bible. Got help to find the section there were in and it was the smallest section in the store. Store does not have discount for military and retirees which was a thumbs down for me. The only discount is if you become a member. That kinda upset me that they dont offer military discounts in a military area and I'm sure the military makes up a lot of their business. A man puts his life on the line for their's to even run a business and they don't honor military discounts. For that, I suggest going elsewhere. read more

Carpet in the kids area is very dirty. Asked an employee to relay to his manager that they should be clean with little kids often playing with the trains. I'll see if the next time I bring my children here if the carpets don't look as if 20 drinks have spilled and stained. read more

I went to the eatery in the back, which offers Starbucks but does not accept Starbucks card. Which is understandable cause apparently it's not a direct Starbucks, but that should be advertised. Second the poor woman was by her self and as frazzled as could be. Third, they offer Cheesecake Factory products, I got a slice for the Hershey Cheesecake. It was so old that the cake bottom fell off the cheese cake part and was inedible, unfortunately I had to take mine to go, so I didn't have a chance to take it back. But for 4 dollars a slice they should at least offer fresh product and not day old inedible cheesecake. I won't be returning, because sadly this purchase made me physically sick, and I don't trust anything else good wise they have to offer. I visited this Barnes & Noble on Saturday. It was a nice place to relax in the area. The layout was easy to navigate and large windows made the place seem fresh. During this visit, we mostly concentrated on their rack of jigsaw puzzles and other toys. Their bargain section was not as impressive as the other B&Ns I've visited. read more

I think this Barnes and Nobles is in desperate need of fixing their sewage problem. There is also a shortage of outlets in the cafe. Seems like a much smaller selections than other BNs. I travel a lot and I enjoy reading so I'm in various BNs a lot, but this one was just unimpressive. The store seemed very understaffed as well, and the cafe was kind of a mess. It's easy to get to, though. read more
