There is a wide selection of books and a variety of Knick knacks and gift items that bring the store closer to what I see (and shop within) in larger airports I frequent like Boston, Charlotte, or LaGuardia! I was pleased to find markup minimal and on some items non existent, a rarity in airports these days. This bookstore is well organized. Our old friend Ken said it best! The books are grouped by genre first, then alphabetical by author within the individual genre sections. I had no problem finding my favorite authors, Lee Child, Michael Connelly and Harlan Coben. For Karen Marie Moning, I had to ask, but the staff knew exactly where she was without having use a computer. She was on the very bottom and we had to get down to the floor to see her books. No wonder I couldn't find her selections. But fortunately the staff is very knowledgeable about their shop and very willing to help you. I was pressed for time so I didn't get to shop for as long as I would have liked to, but I found one gem for only $5. I had to rely on Books In Series Order dot com slash "Author's Name" instead of my usual typed lists (they were not as up to date as I would have liked). I'm near the end of reading all the Reacher novels and Harry Bosch novels have been completed. I'm beginning to buy all the Harlan Coben stand alone books I've skipped over in the past. I'm finding the newer Moning books to be very rare finds in her Fae series. I gotta come back here when I have more time. I just know there are more treasures hiding from me but I'll find them because I am determined.

I've always wanted to go, but didn't know what to expect so I waited. How silly of me! It's bright and clean and is full of books - both new and used (mostly used, of course). The prices are very fair and there were some great deals. Even new bestseller books were a dollar or more cheaper than the manufacturer price. A great deal of: - romance (historical romance paperbacks, especially) - children's books (used and new!) - westerns - Young Adult - Large Print - and basically everything you can think of! The woman worker provided great customer service - she explained how everything is set up and the multiple sales that were going on. I told her she had an adorable store and she told me it was her mother's! How awesome to have a family owned local bookstore in the neighborhood! I will definitely come back. Today I got some pirate bookmarks as a gift but there's a lot more to check out. You could be in here for hours looking at all the books.

I don't know how he does it.) Anyway, on my kid's birthday wish list each year is the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid book. You want a book for your birthday, my child? I'm happy to oblige. This same kid also recently asked me to buy him broccoli so he can eat it raw. He's a treasure. I try, each year, to pre-order the books at local Indy bookstores. Support local, and all that. This year, I pre-ordered the book at MacArthur Books in The Village of WestClay. I had visited this adorable Carmel bookstore during a Yelp event a couple of years ago, and I told myself that I needed to come back. Pre-ordering my book was super easy. I called them on the phone and told them that I wanted to pre-order the book, and they took down my name and number, and told me they'd text me when it was in. I suppose, if you don't want to call them on the phone, you can stop into the store. They didn't make me prepay or anything. When the book was in, I got a text saying so, and I went and paid for my book and brought it home. My child was so happy! MacArthur Books hosts book events, like drop-in book clubs. They're also very active on social media. The bookstore itself is a cozy place to read (they have comfy chairs here and there), plus a cute children's area.

McKayla, the clerk, greeted us with a big smile and offered to help us find something meaningful. They carry a wonderful selection of books and assorted gifts. It's a couple storefronts away from Danville Dips. I love bookstores like The Authors' Patch. It "feels" like it's designed by a writer with its wood interior, warm atmosphere, and inspired decor. The Authors' Patch is bigger than you expect it to be. You can grab a drink, grab a chair, and immerse yourself in a diverse reading selection that includes local authors (including Valt), rare finds, used books, new selections, and more. The Authors' Patch hosts book signings (If I ever finish that ever elusive second book, I could easily see myself saying "The Authors' Patch, please?" I didn't get much time here, however, it was a sublime way to wind down after an emotional day clearing out my father's home. You can park on the town square (free 2-hour parking for most folks; 5-hour parking for disabled/accessible spots). The Authors' Patch does have a very slight step going into it, a point to note for those with accessibility needs. The bookstore itself is surprisingly accessible - only a couple tight spots. Again, I didn't get much time here. There's no doubt I'll be back when there's time to really browse and relax. Fun facts about the owner - she previously worked on the Child Sex Abuse Team for DCS. She lives in Danville with her husband on a farm that includes donkeys, cows, chickens, alpacas, and goats. I love indie bookstores. This locally owned, author owned bookstore is an absolute gem with a writer's vibe, a creative energy, and a warm sense of welcome. The Authors' Patch offers free wifi along with a variety of drinks or snacks for purchase. There's no question I'll be back.

But a friend wanted to meet up for coffee in the area, and neither of us had tried here. The menu is fairly standard Starbucks fare. But I'll say that the frap she got was prepared and presented with panache. If you look at my photos attached to this review, you'll see what I mean! If you don't mind that this is definitely a church establishment, then this is a great place to grab a coffee and have a quiet visit or study. There were lots of comfortable chairs and power outlets. I'd much rather camp out here for an afternoon than an overcrowded Starbucks if I need a place to work.

If you drive by Northview Church's Binford campus, then you've undoubtedly witnessed the growth of…read morewhat had been a decently sized medical office building into a genuine church campus that includes the church itself, Capstone Cafe (part of the church), and Pathways Learning Academy. It's actually a rather beautiful campus that seems to have really perked up this area of Binford Boulevard. I'd been curious about Capstone Cafe ever since I saw it pop up as a church offering. It's located on the south wing of the campus and is clearly marked. The entire church has quite a few accessible parking spots as they have a defined ministry for children with disabilities. I will admit this is part of why I wanted to support Capstone - as an adult with a disability, I feel strongly about churches that work to be inclusive of those of us with disabilities. They also do have an automatic door, though it actually was open when I arrived since they were bringing items in/out. Capstone Cafe is essentially a little coffee house. The nearest comparison might be The Haverstick, though this is not really defined as a "co-working" space. That said, as I arrived a group had gathered at one table and appeared to either be working or studying. It's a really comfortable space for either one, though I didn't see plug-ins around and I'm not sure if they offer wifi. The first thing I noticed about Capstone, though, was the sense of welcome. It was immediate and it felt very genuine. Several people were present decorating for the holidays and there was a sense of hospitality everywhere I turned. I had one person turn around from what she was doing and open the door for me and I was greeted by at least 3-4 people working in the church. However, in case you're wondering, it didn't have an agenda to it. The employee working was also super friendly. She showed me both of their menus (drinks and food) and other things around like snacks. They keep things pretty simple here and they support local roasters including Indie Coffee Roasters, Tinker, and Limelight. I ordered a 16-ounce drip coffee (Tinker) for $2.75. I also opted for a grilled cheese weaving together gruyere and mild American for $4.00 (I think it might have actually been $4.25 as I'm pretty sure I paid $7 total - surprisingly, it also included a small serving of Broad Ripple Chip Co. chips). Regardless, it was a definite value to me. They offer a variety of drinks including a variety of coffee variations, teas, and hot chocolate along with soft drinks. They also have smoothies and fountain sodas. They have a breakfast and lunch menu - it's definitely on the lighter side including breakfast sandwiches, oatmeal, a panini, a grilled cheese, a soup and sandwich combo, turkey chili, some baked goods, some chip varieties, and a handful of other options. Everything is reasonably priced and you can easily pick up a light lunch here for under $10 and all of their coffee options are under $5 with the highest price I saw being $4.50. There are tables around Capstone and a few tables spaced out around this particular wing of the church. Between the church, the school, and Capstone this place stays steady if not busy. I'll admit that the 5-star is possibly generous as it might build up unreasonable expectations for what is truly just a simple church-based coffeehouse type shop that keeps things simple and focuses on hospitality. The thought that kept coming back to me was that this felt like actual ministry. In some churches, this type of operation either feels like a "business," which makes me feel icky, and other times feels like nothing more than a "gotcha" opportunity. This felt like actual ministry and I really, really liked it. Admittedly, the hours are not the most convenient for me during the week. I happened to have taken a day off work and wanted a place to relax. This was perfect. However, they do also offer Saturday and even Sunday hours (I'm assuming in conjunction with their morning worship). While I expected to appreciate Capstone Cafe, it actually exceeded my expectations in both hospitality and actual quality of offerings. The employee was friendly and helpful and welcoming, the coffee was delicious, the grilled cheese hit the spot, and the overall atmosphere was warm and inviting. I may not be back as often as I'd like, but I'll definitely be back.
