We can always find the newest and latest greatest books at Barnes & Noble. It is a quiet area to read or take a toddler to play with the train table in the children's department. We were very disappointed to find out that they did away with the educators discount. They replaced it with a reward system, so much to be sad about, educators need every break they can get don't really eat food there sometimes take a drink from the water fountain, but don't purchase anything from the Starbucks because it doesn't apply to my Stars.

A big bookstore with an escalator to the second floor of the store. Books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, chocolate and a full size Starbucks inside. This Starbucks has a larger selection than most stand alone Starbucks with quiches, pies, sandwiches and pastries.

Starbucks in the café. They also have Cheesecake Factory cheesecake. Yum!

I stopped in her the other day because I was craving a Starbucks and there was not a coffee shop anywhere in sight. Barnes and Noble for the win! My drink was delicious and I was surprised to see Cheesecake Factory cheesecake slices for sale in the pastry fridge. YUM! While my stomach was full and I could not enjoy the cheesecake, I enjoyed visiting with my friends over a delicious drink!

    No pastries

It took five minutes for the waiter to finally get to us. They had no raspberry syrup nor did they have the pineapple syrup. They had no pastries. The Barnes & Noble's workers were super sweet though

Nice place to bring kids to read in silence and play .

Nice and quiet place to read to the kids and same time have a good nice Coffee while reading a Book or working on your computer.

So, let me start off by saying that they DON'T play classical music here anymore. It is so incredibly annoying to sit and read or study while rock and roll is blaring from the speakers. It's not bookstore music, it's not classy, and it's certainly not the Barnes and Noble that is used to be. Yes, it is a very clean store with a friendly staff, but the music is literally what sets the entire mood. I speak for more than just myself on this one. I do, however, love this location for its convenience, the café, and the huge selection of books that this store has to offer. There is never a shortage of good reads. I just wish that they would change the music station to something a little more tasteful. This is a learning center, not a bar.

Sometimes you just need a place to go for peace and quiet and Barnes and Noble is an awesome place to do that at. This location has a Starbucks coffee center as well as selling Cheesecake Factory cheesecakes. The seating area for the cafe is nice & quaint. There is always something good to try & a new soup everday. Love it!!! The books, movies, cds, & even games are plentiful. I come sit in the upstairs sitting area relax & read a book. Its the perfect get away. The staff is great & always able to help you find even the hardest items like the 1941 movie for my dad.

    Yummy food and coffee

They also host a ton of fun book-related and author events. If you're interested, please follow their social media accounts. They'll keep you up to date.

Every time I go into the shop, even if I think I know exactly what I want, every staff member is so knowledgeable and helpful that I always leave with more ideas on my TBR! The little shop is located in the tiny shopping center off Brush Creek Parkway, which means it can be hard to find parking if the center is petty busy--but it's worth it! They have great sections for adult reads, but they also have great sections for kids and teens--you'll find what you're looking for even if you're not sure what that is. Over the holidays, I even asked for kids and teens recommendations from the staff which they were happy to give! As noted earlier, their shop isn't huge, but full of possibilities. And if at the end of your visit, you really still want that book they don't have in stock, they'll order it for you for pick up or shipping--it's a simple process and they're more than happy to help people find their perfect next read. They may not be a book superstore, but they create value in their suggestions, recommendations, and their tiny book reviews and recs on the shelves (even in the teens and kids sections, written by kids and teens!). So glad to have found this place early on in my time in KC, and so happy that they're still doing their thing in their amazing bookshop!

My sister had read most of the books to them before they went so they were familiar with the stories. I loved that the books were in the exhibits. I'm an avid collector of vintage children's books (including many first editions), so my standards are high! That's why I'm telling you: if you have kids, or if you're just a kid at heart who loves great stories, you have to visit The Rabbit Hole. It's an immersive, straight-up magical dream come to life. Adults and children appreciated the mastery of the designs throughout this place. It brings the books we all cherished growing up to life in a way I never thought imaginable. It costs $15 for each person and it's worth every penny. You walk by Madeleine displays on your way to Barbar, and The Last Stop on Market Street. Each one better than the last. Kids climbing, laughing, and embracing each one with an eye of awe. I learned about the author of story My Fathers Dragon and it was fascinating. So much so I went to the bookshop to buy a copy, along with other books and prints. And that's where such a beautiful experience went south. When I asked the two girls working in the shop about a book and a limited-series print, they were incredibly curt with me. They condescendingly told me I had already passed the book, making me feel like I had done something wrong. It instantly reminded me of when your mom gets frustrated with you simply because you don't know the answer to a question you're asking. It's a shame that such a breathtaking museum experience was bookended by such dismissive customer service in the retail shop. Go for the magic of the exhibits, but be prepared for a cold reception at checkout.

I used to be in the bookstore business. Remember bookstores? Those cavernous spaces with endless…read moreshelves of books of which maybe only 5% actually got purchased? Yeah. Good memories. That's not the case at Under The Cover. This is a legit, almost boutique-ish, book and gift store. It's not a warehouse of books and just 'stuff'. No, their specialty lies with LGBTQ+ literature, awareness, and advocacy and that theme is everywhere in this cozy space. Under The Cover is moving books aplenty and their merch and sundries game is amazing. Throw up a hand if you're an LGBTQ+ supporter. Heck, throw up a hand if you're on the other side of those lifestyles, because Under The Cover will WELCOME you, too. There are plenty of Christian bookstores, so balancing that ledger with inclusivity and love by patronizing an alternative choice & lifestyle business should be on anyone's radar. The service is uber-friendly and they will give suggestions for just about anything. Sign their guest book (so fun!) or just drop your email to receive future discounts, notice of specials, or even in-store author events. Support local is not just a rallying cry for farmers markets or service industries. It's critical to buttress our friends and neighbors who pour their hearts and souls into offering the great city a neverending array of shops & locations by supporting their businesses. The value in a place like Under The Cover is not just in the price tag of the items. No, it's more in the merit of small businesses and their place in the fabric that is Kansas City. Parking is city-style, which can mean you're on your own. Prices are fair and consistent, and you will appreciate what this space has become and how it can add to the Union Hill area. Take the time, and the opportunity, to stop in and feel the love.

Yeah, I give it five stars. Big whoop. Wanna fight about it?…read more Back in the day there were multiple bookstore chains (I even used to be employed by one of the biggies) and the books game was somewhat cutthroat. Nowadays, less & less people want a tangible BOOK, because digital. Sorry, techno kiddies, but you simply will never be able to replace the feel of a book, turning pages of a thriller, or flipping to the back of a choose-your-own-adventure with some gizmo. And B&N has stayed the course, while incorporating digital options for those that like screens, but they stay locked on their core business: being a bookstore. The Plaza location is flagship-y, what with a multi-floor layout and escalators seemingly running in MC Escher directions. The cafe is on L2, kids' stuff is at the top, non-fiction & fiction are clearly marked but separated by floors, and on and on. Find something that you want to peruse? Grab one of the many chairs and read to your heart's (or schedule's) content. The bottom level, below the street walk-in, has all the music you could want, with a solid vinyl selection. If vinyl's comeback doesn't signal how hard it is to kill a media format, then I don't know what to tell you. Books may not have that kind of resurrection, but B&N isn't letting go of the rope just yet. There are value buys everywhere, from large coffee table books to older titles (in the biz they call these 'remainders'), boutique-y items with themes, and one of the best LEGO selections outside of a specialty store. If you need help, then there are friendly folk here and there, or you can use a self-service kiosk to help you find something. Foot traffic from the Plaza drives this store and you are pretty much guaranteed to walk out with something you like. And you'll be glad you did.

Easy parking in the garage next door, and tons of stuff to do here. We needed to get a Lego set, and there's a really decent selection. In the age of online shopping, it's a nice change up to actually go in a store and look around. There was one book that looked good and I happened to notice it was half price on Amazon vs in store, which is how it goes, but worth noting. There's also a Starbucks cafe, and then a kids section up top that's a lot of fun. My girls each got to pick out a book and they ended up spending a lot of time looking around and having fun. Honestly, really great all around. Fun way to spend an hour or two and so many great things that the kids enjoyed.

He is friendly and helpful and it would probably be best to ask him where some items might be since the store is overcrowded and not organized very well. Some books have the prices on the inside cover and some you have to ask him and you can bargain with him as well as long as your bargaining is reasonable.
