I live closer to the west side of Madison, but I wanted to look at a book that the west towne Barnes & Noble did not have. It was my first time going to the east towne Barnes & Noble and I was just stunned by the staff there that was so rude. I tried to get help from 3 different people. The first one was just a bit helpful, by pointing me in the right direction. Still could not find it. I asked help from two other staff and they were both so rude. It was like they hated their jobs. The store was very unorganized and chaotic. I never have that experience at the west towne Barnes & Noble. I will never go back to the east towne Barnes & Noble. read more

I was very happy and surprised y the knowledge and suggestions that were related to me book I was seeking! If you like Amazon prices, well your missing out on the gems and great customer service and hands on book. This Barnes and Noble is part of the East Towne Mall. It is a sizable, well-kept facility with a very good inventory. The cafe offers a pleasant place to grab a coffee and a treat while browsing your selections. I found the personnel at this location to be especially helpful and pleasant. The connectivity to the mall at the food court was also rather convenient. This shop provides a nice place to hang out for a couple of hours, especially with the availability of WiFi. read more

A fairly standard Barnes & Nobble. A large selection, quick service, decent pricing. The only issue I have here is the trouble finding parking close by. I prefer the "Standalone" Barnes & Nobbles similar to whats on the west side. read more

I can't believe it took me however-long-this-store-has-been-open to visit. This version of Barnes & Noble is quite a bit smaller than its Westside counterpart. It's conveniently connected to the mall, which I also apparently hadn't been to in over a decade and was nicely renovated. This is great for cold or rainy weather days when you don't want to keep getting in and out of your car. The drag about being connected to the mall is the...mallrats? People running around the store, yelling, laying and reading in the aisles so you couldn't walk through them. I couldn't get too mad because there are countless worse places to be on a Friday night than a bookstore; I just wouldn't recommend this for those seeking a quiet place to read or study. This location has a Starbucks inside, easily accessible, and offering free water in small cups or if you byo water bottle. The store seemed to carry many more non-book items than expected, like books, puzzles, crafts, building sets, that were fun to look at but not geared toward my current demographic. read more

Books - usually don't have what I need but always willing to order. Wifi- free but terribly slow. Starbucks - the don't accept SB gift cards??? But they serve SB drinks and charge SB prices. They let me sit here and wait for family to get done shopping! read more

I've had no problem finding books that I need at this location. Plus, it also helps to check out the availability online before I even head over. Nonetheless, on the rare occasion I find myself at the mall, I always end up wandering in here to see what I could add on my reading list. I don't stay long enough to sit at the Starbucks and use the wifi, but I wouldn't be opposed to it. My friend loves the cookies they sell. I have spent quite a few times reading the first few chapters of books in a quiet corner, so that's a plus. Customer service has been helpful a handful of times, although a couple of times they forget that they're helping me so I end up leaving. read more

Much like Starbucks, which conveniently lies inside many'a B&N, this location fit the brand and mold. I have visited this location more than a dozen times in the 8 years of my Madisonian citizenship. It's standard. I cannot recall a less than friendly staff person and have always been entertained by the store. Whether I was browsing with a friend whom needed something specific, or if I was perusing coffee table books, stationary needs, a rare and in stock tennis biography, what have you, I have been pleased in my experience. While i do prefer smaller, locally-owned bookstores, the selection, and neat library-style setup plays all too well to my preferred neat and orderly aesthetic. read more

The Starbucks in this store is trash. There's a guy in particular that is a complete jackass. I've seen him with my own eyes throwing items across the room or even to the ground and pick up with his hands and then goes and touches a customers orders with his dirty hands - talk about cross contamination. Let alone, Ive seen him throw away in the trash coupons that were meant to be given to me while I was done paying AFTER I tell him that I forgot my coupon that I could've used towards my purchase. It's obvious that he doesn't care for his customers. read more

I prefer the larger westside location, but this mall-attached store is just fine. It's brightly lit and easy to access both from the parking lot or the food court area of the mall interior. Due to its smaller footprint the store can feel a little crowded; there's not a ton of open space to walk through as the main aisle is occupied by display tables. Staff has generally been friendly and on my most recent trip I was able to get someone to confirm they had a book then walk me to the correct shelf instead of spending twenty minutes circling and trying to find the right place - by my estimation it could have been under sports, biography, or new releases. My main complaint, which is true for the chain and not just this store, is that they won't price match their own website. I ended up paying $10 more in person than the price I had found online. read more

Staff members are always helpful and they have an Educator Discount Program. That makes purchasing books (for the classroom or home) a little bit less expensive and makes up for the fact that sometimes B&N is a touch pricey. read more

Horrible customer service experience!! Why I even bothered to go here is beyond me.. My wife asked me to get some gift cards and my dad mentioned that he would give me a yearly membership as a present. I made the mistake of not listening to that little voice in my head screaming "DON'T!!!!". I got the gift cards and asked for the membership and then realized that they hadn't given me the membership. So I go in the next day and asked someone in customer service if I could get the membership and then have them apply the discount to the previous purchases and some new purchases and their response was "Of course.. Talk to Scott, our head cashier, and he will gladly take care of this". I go to Scott and he tells me "I've never done that, we would never do that and whoever told you that was obviously wrong" Needless to say, I did not make any new purchases and I will promptly return any of the previous purchases and give my hard-earned money to someone who deserves it. Bottom line.. Overpriced lousy customer service is not for me. In this day and age they should know better than that and you should use your buying power to show them. Stay away.. read more

I needed to find a couple unusual books. I went to the Customer Service desk, located in the middle of the store and was helped by a very friendly employee. She was very energetic and took me to the section where one book was located. She suggested I order the other book because they didn't have it in stock. I went to pick up the ordered book once I received the email stating it arrived. The front desk employee was very helpful, talkative, etc. They also had a Christmas donation area. Customers were able to purchase a book for a foster child. I thought that was a wonderful idea and great way to promote reading with the children out there. read more

Barnes and noble is connected to the east Towne mall and also has a little Starbucks inside. It's not the biggest store but it has almost everything. I was glad to find the books I needed and the friendly staff were great at helping me! If your a nursing student I highly recommended you check out the books they have here like the anatomy coloring books, flash cards and etc. They have quite a lot and I was surprised. I will more then likely recommend those in the area to stop by here (especially because staff is super great and does the extra mile for their customers). read more

Been here quite a few times looking for books that they don't have but are willing to order. Ever since I bought my Kindle, there is really no need for me to stop in anymore. I only come here if I need study books for my kids and if they want a new book to read but never for any books for me. Their layout is nice and I am always able to find what I'm looking for. I always take a peek in the clearance section to see if there are any good deals are books. This place can get a little pricey so you might be able to find cheaper books elsewhere. The books I download on my kindle are a lot cheaper. But before Kindle, this was my go to place and if they didn't have the book I wanted, I was SOL. I wasn't a fan of ordering online and waiting for delivery. I would rather have the book that day or even in a couple of days but not in a week or two. By then, I'll probably forget about the book. Anyway, customer service is a hit or miss. Sometimes the workers are willing to help and sometimes you have to hunt down an available person. The lines can be a bit slow at times too. Which is terrible when you have kids and all they want to do is grab at all of the trinkets they have on display. Anyway, overall I would say this place is quite average. Average customer service, average store, and pricey. read more
