Pretty decent Barnes & Noble option. The store itself is smaller than most other locations, but has a general and basic stock. As always, if there is something you're looking for and if they don't carry it in the store, they can order it for you. I only encountered one employee and she was very friendly. If you're looking for blu rays/DVDS, there is very little here. If you're coming just for that, you're best off going to the Palisades Mall location. Located in Rockland Plaza, there is plenty of parking. Overall a good option for locals. read more

Great service, my personal favorite is the older lady who might be the manager(???). She's really nice, super accommodating. She answered my questions which was super helpful. There's a great selection of books here, I'm always here to throw down my money for books I haven't read. I just wished that the value of toys were less expensive cause I'm a fan of calico Critters--the calico critters are so cute but I don't want to waste my money $12-$20 for just one small box or two when I can use it on two books on sale. Also, I APPRECIATE when the store is always having a sale when I go there, super helpful when I want two books instead of one. read more

I'm all in on this location. Books (real ones with pages you physically turn) are my passion. When I run out of books to read or get a really good recommendation on some literature, I usually call ahead and the staff is always helpful and knowledgeable. This is crucial to curbside pick up! Also, a great place to find all sorts of toys and novelty gifts. I have done a great deal of gift shopping here with gifts that the recipients love. They have a great assortment of dolls that come from various backgrounds which is awesome because the area is a cultural mosaic; so, it is nice to see that represented in this location. This location is very community oriented which gives it less of a corporate feel and more of a town book store feel which is much appreciated for a geek chic bookworm like myself. read more

Had to show some love for the brick and mortar bookstore since these are a dying breed. I actually bought something enjoyable to read that I otherwise wouldn't have, since most of my print purchases are via Amazon these days. This I had to get my mitts on and riffle through the pages to make the decision to ultimately buy. This Barnes & Noble location lacks management leadership and it shows. For example, the female cashier (weekday mornings) spends too much time chit-chatting with each customer at the check-out counter, telling them the obvious (...this cover is red, and this cover is blue...). She is certainly very prideful and oblivious while seemingly enjoying her perceived self-importance. Customers were waiting in line for her to ring up their purchase while she's leaning over the counter baby-talking, waving, and gushing over someone's child who just bent up and damaged the cards displayed in front of the counter. And of course, the young mother of the child could care less while all of us waiting in line watched in horror. The manager was several feet away oblivious and in his own world. read more

I worked for Barnes & Noble for a really, really long time. There was a period in my life that I like to call the "Before I Worked For B&N Period" and this review is based on an experience I had then. We had a policy about the bathrooms at the B&Ns I worked at - if you found it, you cleaned it. I worked at one in upstate NY for awhile and we had someone who would come in and write on the walls with their poop. We had another who somehow defied the laws of gravity and sprayed their diarrhea ON THE CEILING. We had these carts that we would move books around on and one time someone found a piece of poop on one of them. I guess a customer couldn't make it downstairs to the bathroom so they decided to drop their pants and shit right next to a stack of Harlequin romance novels while standing up (it was on the top shelf of the cart which was about waist high.) It wasn't out of place to find poop in one of our wastebaskets. Around the time of 9/11 somebody thought it would be awesome to sprinkle white powder on the shelves in current events. My favorite was the seriously old lady who came in with her adult son who always wore a helmet because he had some mental issues or whatever. She had this old fashioned baby carriage that she would push around and no, she didn't have a baby in it. Rather, she pushed her poodle around in the thing with her son CHAINED to the handle. We found crap on the floor near the register they were at and figured it came from the dog. Nope, somehow the son pooped and it came out of the leg on his pants and fell on the floor. HOLLA. Hell, we had two regulars who would go into the men's room and SHAVE EACH OTHER'S FACES. Needless to say, you learned really quickly to keep your mouth shut and keep moving if you found ANY kind of bodily substance not contained within a toilet in the bathrooms. So anyway, the women's bathrooms at the Nanuet B&N were always pretty vile. I was pulling some toilet paper from the roll when, magically, a used condom fell out and landed on my hand. Even I couldn't stomach that one. read more

Seeing as I just got yelp, this review is a little late. The matter has been resolved, thanks to the Attorney General of NY, but I think it's important for people to know: I was breastfeeding my son uncovered, yet discreetly (totally legal in NY state) in the children's section of this location. The assistant manager came over and said, "Hi, are you breastfeeding?" I excitedly responded, "yes!" She continued, "you're not welcome to do that here uncovered," to which I replied, "I believe state law dictates I can." She retorted, "yeah, but it's against store policy,"- uhm, since when does store policy supersede state law? I asked for her to show me the policy in writing. She said she did not have it, so I told her she would be hearing from my lawyer. I was so angry, I organized a nurse-in with about 10 other mothers. We all sat by the registers of the store and breastfed our children, and I even bought something so I wouldn't be "loitering". Towards the end of the nurse-in, I asked to speak to a manager to explain why we were there. This woman was vile: all she did was respond sarcastically, rudely and inappropriately. After the nurse-in I have not been back to this location. Thanks to this encounter, all B&N locations in NY state must boast the international symbol for breastfeeding on the front door. Recently I went into a NJ location and found the sticker greeting me on a door there as well! This store was okay, but the staff was unprofessional and not willing to admit they were wrong. I'm happy this happened though because now no other mother will ever be badgered for nourishing her child in a B&N location in NY. Another negative is that this location has no cafe. You have to go outside and walk down the end of the strip mall to the starbucks, then walk back. It's not that far, but it's just inconvenient. read more

Nice, big location. This store is one of the biggest locations that I have been to, but I don't understand why there is no cafe? Yes, there is a Starbucks at the corner outside, but I really think a cafe would be nice in here. Staff is usually very helpful and available to help.
