When I got there, the office was locked, with a note on the door saying they were closed for lunch between 12 and I, with no visible inside activity. I gave them one more chance this year, only find a major problem this week when I received a final notice with a final payment due, but no proof of service, or backup information. I went to the Guadalupe office on 7/27/26 and was told they could not help with the situation, because it was not their problem. It belonged to their off-site billing section. I was told to contact corporate in Dallas by phone to resolve this matter. When I asked for a statement showing services provided, they said they do not have that information in their office. What? It is all in Dallas. The final notice came without my receiving any statement or billing or service information, either by mail or email. They added insult to injury when they sent an email wishing me Happy Birthday. So, no advance notice of any amount due, and no list of services provided prior to the late notice. I was told that everything is handled by corporate. What happened to the old medical practices where they were responsive to their patients? Is it all to the point of major corporations?

This is where I get my eye exams and buy my contacts so naturally, it's super convenient to be able to order eye glasses here as well. I don't see a separate page to review their Optician's, which is unfortunate because my experience there was horrible. I have bought several pairs of glasses over the years at this location. The last time was 2016, so yes, five years ago. The older gentleman who used to operate this store was kind, knowledgeable, and professional. Unfortunately, the current optician, Shelley Jewell, is just the opposite. First, their selection is underwhelming: not many frames to choose from. I picked two frames and then it was time for "the numbers." My prescription is so strong that my lens cost more than the frames. Shelley proceeded to give me a price that I thought was "kind of high" but then again, the lens always make the price higher. However, I then asked her to review ALL elements of this order: + High Index (thin lenses) vs Polycarbonate (thicker lenses) + Blue glare (if you're looking at computer screens) vs regular + Photochromatic or adaptive lens that get darker once you're outside in the sun + Progressive lens aka invisible bifocals (yes if you're 40+, that might be a thing) vs. regular lens There are four pricing tiers to choose from for thickness of lens, the lowest index aka thickest lens to the highest index aka thinnest lens. Once she explained the pricing, I realized Shelley had given me the pricing for the highest index lens. Super presumptuous. When I asked her to please itemize so that I could see the difference in pricing, Shelley made a face, as if she was totally put out. She then proceeded to inform me that the frame would "show" the thicker lens and it would be heavier. Not new information for someone who's been wearing glasses since I was a kid and now investing in them as an adult for 30+ years. Do you think I don't know that? She's trying to talk me out of the thicker lens because she doesn't want to do all the different cost breakdowns. Which is her job. And she wants me to spend more money. Which does not fit the price point I mentioned up front. Getting the middle grade lens was the best choice for me, given my budget, which I shared with her. I've had the "Cadillac" of lens, the highest index lens, before, when I could afford it. But that was not going to be this pair. She proceeded to calculate the different prices and write them down for me. I was going to ask her to do that for the second pair but a coworker came in and she got up from the table, to socialize with that person. IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR TRANSACTION. Are you kidding me? That nailed it. Done. Not spending my money here. As any good salesperson in ANY industry knows, none of this was good customer service/sales etiquette. incredibly short-sighted. Pun intended.

I have been putting this operation off for decades. I was too fearful to go through with it…read more Contacts and glasses were always a constant. Always a slight nuisance. My vision started hitting a point where corrective lenses were just not working out for me. Blur with distance, blur with near sight, halos at night - I was getting increasingly frustrated. Finally I decided I had prolonged this long enough. It was time to take back my vision and own my life. I set up an appointment. The free consultation was amazing. They checked my eyes out. They asked what results I was looking for. They told me what I could and could not expect. As a guy in my 40s, they made sure I knew that I may need readers to see near objects. They made sure I knew that my results may not be amazing. I was told that this was an elective surgery and it may just be better to stick with contacts and glasses. They obviously did not just want my money, but wanted to make sure I knew what I was in for and prepared for the outcome. They wanted me to be informed and happy with my decision. It was truly outstanding service. I opted in. I was ready. Readers are fine. My vision was just a mess with contacts. The fear of the procedure tickled my stomach, but I knew I needed to do it. On the day of the procedure, rain was coming down. Not an omen, but it did hold up traffic and flights and the surgeon was delayed. No worries, the outcome would be the reward. I waited at the office. The staff was incredible and friendly. They even treated me to Starbuck's and snacks. They made sure I was comfortable and happy. The wait was honestly enjoyable. Not the typical clinic wait where you are in a room full of dread and dour faces. Finally, it was my time. I was taken into a room. All of the worry stopped. I had built this up into something horrible. I was worried about sneezing and blinking and making the machine mess up. There was none of that. You are comfortably 'anchored' in place. The doctor is confident and reassuring. He walks you through the whole process. He was gentle and awesome. You are on a bed with your eyelids held in place (not unpleasant, even though it sounds like it could be). The machine hovers above and you look into small aperture. There is a slight pressure as the process goes about it's business. It is not exactly pleasant, but it is brief and easy enough to withstand. You are guided to look at a green light while the surgery takes place. You do not see the lasers working on your eyes, just a green blur. You will smell an odor as the lasers do their work. The entire process lasted less than ten minutes, for both eyes, in my estimation. Once I was done, I was able to go out to my ride. Light sensitive, but they give you sunglasses. For the first time in thirty years, I could see unaided. I honestly felt a little choked up on the way home as I read the fine print of buildings and street signs. The literature they provide gives you a deep insight into the future. On the way home, as noted, my eyes were very heavy. I kept them closed for the duration of the ride. There was an unpleasant sensation that was familiar. When I wore contacts too long, there was a burning sensation and the muscles in the eyes flexed and watered trying to take care of business. This was the same sensation. It was not fun, but it was not overwhelming. As per the literature, I slept for four hours once I got home. The unpleasant burning was gone. My eyes were still light sensitive, but I was much better. Today is the day after. I feel great. I am keeping my eyes moist. There is no pain. There is a slight, and I mean very slight, irritation. I know I had the procedure, but it feels like an early morning without much sleep, it doesn't feel like I am recovering from an operation. In a couple of hours, I am going to drive across town for the follow up. Something I could not have fathomed, even a month ago. I am very happy with the results so far. I am very happy I chose this clinic to perform the procedure. I am very happy with the care provided and the smiling faces at this location. This is an amazing business. I feel like I was granted superpowers overnight. Don't put your life off any longer. Get a free consultation and own your vision again!
