When you live off grid you come to appreciate people who show up and do what they're in business to do. When my water pressure dropped, the water came out dirty and the pump to run, drawing my solar battery down, I called Barney & Sons (who'd installed the system 4 years ago). Jason and Terry arrived earlier than expected and my gate was closed. Rather than turning around and leaving, they walked 1/4 mile to the house and well. Wonderful, friendly attitudes. Jason explained the problem, replaced the switch, did the maintenance needed and I'm set for another 4 years. I'd built a cairn of rocks around the well and Terry replaced them (above and beyond the call of duty!) with great care...so sweet! (BTW...when reading the reviews I noticed that Andrew B. posted twice which, unfortunately, skews the results as he obviously knows. Barney and Son Well Drillers, drilled my neighbors' well. My water turned Pink for 3 months, my water cleared up. Called them asked them if my water was safe to drink . They said they would test it for $150, are you kidding me they ruined my water and want me to pay for it. Dont ever used them they dont back up there work read more

Great sales, then refused to stand behind their work. Don't trust them to come back. My wife and I bought a $75,000+ geothermal system (!) from Barney & Sons when we moved here in 2019. They were great about selling and installing it. Then the problems started. Leaky pipes. Coolant all over the basement. Quirky thermostats. They had to come out repeatedly to fix issues. They promised us new thermostats. Never came. They made temporary repairs and said they were waiting for parts to make them permanent. Nope. Now they ignore our calls, and the owner said (through the receptionist!) that they refuse to service the system -- barely two years old. No explanation. Suggested we find another contractor. Barney & Sons won't honor the warranty. So... maybe if you need simple work done these guys are fine, but they clearly have issues with follow-up and communications, and we learned we can't trust them to stand behind their work. After telling him what was going on he insisted on coming out to my house after hours and replaced my well pump. EXCELLENT experience today! I live in an 150 year old house, on laid up stone foundation, with some foundation sill problems which allow too much cold air into the rough basement where furnace and water equipment are located. Its been close to Zero degrees here for about 10 days. Due to other/ pipe leak issues Ive been opening & closing the the house water inlet once or twice a day for water use... Over the New Year holiday... I lounged, didn't use water or open inlet for two days. Next time I did, NO water. Now I know enough about plumbing electrical, construction to do most repairs & renovations myself. I troubleshooted everything in the water system to the well head, and then surrendered and decided to make the call. Figured I'd need a new well pump. Found Barney & Suns in the Yellow Book under Well Drilling. Called at 8:05 AM, and they answered! The telephone person nicely & efficiently exchanged information with me, and importantly quickly got a knowledgeable person on the line to listen to my description of the things I'd already checked, and the situation. When I asked, they explained how they would charge me... well pump service & replacement can be expensive. They came over within two hours, and 4 hours later... my water problems were fixed. The service took pulling the pump twice... replaced electrical wires shorted in the well; and the brass fitting from pump to pipe had cracked. Later, we found icing in the underground water pipe from the well to the basement, and a compression tank which wouldn't hold pressure. ( the latter two likely from the week I had been trying to diagnose & repair system myself.) Two great techs worked their way thru the problems logically, and took the time to brief me on each step as I watched. DID NOT just come in and try to sell me a new pump which we found I did not need (about $750 for a good quality Gould Pump)... and so the total repairs including new tank, all the fittings, new pump wiring, and service COST LESS than what I figured for replacing the pump, when I called in the morning. Just took my first shower in a week, and am very glad I called Barney & Son this morning! Moral of the story is... During the New Year's freeze of 2018, techs Jerry & John fixed my homes' frozen water problems in about four hours and under budget! Very pleased. Thanks again! read more

Barney and Sons Drilling never finished the job they started. They received over $6,000 down payment to drill a well in winter and said they would come back in the spring to backfill the 50'+ trench from the well to the house because it was too cold and the ground was too frozen to backfill. When we started to call them to backfill the trench, we were told everytime that they would come back in the next couple of weeks to finish the job because they were extremely busy at this time. Spring came and went, summer came and went, fall came and went, phone calls and letters came and went and we are back to winter a year later and no backfill and we have a torn up section of our yard which we cannot get near with our lawn mower because the large stones have cause unnecessary wear and damage to our mower. Also, because, my wife and I are disabled, we had to sell our animals which were on the other side of the fence, because we could not get to them to feed and care for them, without falling and getting hurt. Thank God for our neighbors who felt so sorry for recommending them, that they out of their own pocket created a tiny walkway with gravel for us to get to our animals, unfortunately after they were all sold already. I would highly recommend NOT to do business with this company and search for a more reliable and more professional company that will not take your money without completing the job and misrepresent the truth. This is a true shame to take advantage of the disabled and elderly. I would give them zero stars or even go into negative stars if allowed!!! read more
