I had mentioned this to a friend and she strongly encouraged me to start doing yoga again because it gets energy moving in your body, and is cleansing for the spirit. I mainly wanted to do it for the physical benefits, so I decided to come in today to West End Yoga because it's the closest studio to me. Needless to say, the entire experience was incredibly relieving and cathartic. Feeling my body--which I've abused so many times before with rigorous diets and painful practices of self-harm--move through the motions and transgress from one pose to another rather awkwardly but altogether gracefully was such a poignant and important progress for me. The basics of breathing and moving are surprisingly visceral and liberating. I was stunned when, at the end of the session, tears randomly began to spill from my eyes. The entire experience definitely moved everything in me and brought stuff to the surface, and I believe that is the power of quieting the mind. The instructor was very gentle and supportive. I got major chills when we closed with the "ohm". This is my go-to spot now, and it helps that it's literally 5 minutes from my home. I even left my yoga mat there for future visits. I'm sold.

The first class is FREE if you fill out the online wavier. The building setup its self is a little confusing but once we got to the sign in area we were squared away. The staff is SUPER friendly, the studio is neat and clean: offering large bathrooms, a changing area with shower and more. We did the hot yoga level 1-2 with Courtney. She was funny and sweet and very easy to understand. The class was definitely challenging. I am no professional yogi so some of the moves were hard for me but I did the best I could and she gave us alternate poses to do if we got to hot, tired or too challenged. I love the background music she played it kept me motivated at the end as we were laying there she walked around and put cold wash clothes on our foreheads. It was delightful!! My friend and I loved the overall experience and since they are running a summer special we will definitely be back!!

No commitment to pay a monthly premium if you want to just do this drop in class. You can sign up online or at the studio upon arrival. The teacher is amazing and offers modifications for all levels. The room is relaxing with a small fountain, smells like lavendar and everything you need is provided. I wish I could go more often but sometimes life gets in the way. I haven't tried any other classes because I think the drop in rate for other classes is significantly higher.

That is not the type of mentality I'm looking for in a yoga studio and should never be promoted. Updating to add that Ali just called me to explain herself and the type of yoga this studio practices. She called it "militant" and stood by her actions in calling me out during class.
