since my first review i've experienced them in their temporary spot ( business office area on el camino ) and now their permanent spot in downtown los altos and let me tell you, a total upgrade to their original spot in los altos! the new space is very beautiful and the lobby/cubby area is a lot bigger and not so "smooshed" together like their original spot. the parking situation has also improved. you have many options to park (garage or street) in all directions of this downtown location. tons of cute shops, bars and eateries in this area too. ive learned to embrace the classes held here too over the last year. i thoroughly enjoy the options the instructors give- and ive learned to be forgiving of what my body can handle on any given day. thank you for encouraging a positive space read more

Unlike other studios I've been to, this place is extremely rigid about their rules. At other places, I've seen people join the class even if they are a few minutes late. And if someone has an emergency and can't attend, they are usually understanding and will move you to another class or at least not mark you as a no-show on purpose. Here, the front desk is very inflexible. I even called ahead to let them know I might be 5-10 minutes late. I rushed over and ended up being 7 minutes late because of parking, but they still wouldn't let me in or mark me as attended. Very disappointing front desk service. The class itself is decent, but as long as these strange rules exist and the front desk continues to handle things this way, I won't be coming back. I just discovered Barre3 a few months ago. I had just had a baby and was looking for a way to lose some weight. I was nervous to try it at first-- it had been a while since I'd exercised, and I'd never done a class like this before. But the staff, who are all so warm and encouraging, immediately made me feel at home. In every class they really prove that all bodies are welcome, no matter where you are on your fitness journey. The classes are challenging and really fun. The instructors are so positive, encouraging, and inspiring. Emily's cardio classes are my favorite and a fantastic workout. I also always feel better after Maya's classes-- she radiates kindness, joy, and positive energy. One thing I love about all the instructors is they always provide options and they encourage you to modify if there's a movement you're not up for. Sometimes the classes are pretty crowded-- just proof of how many people love this place! I hope they will add more classes to meet the demand. I am so incredibly grateful that I found Barre3 and joined this wonderful fitness community. It has done so much more than just help me lose the baby weight. Similar to other reviews, I would not recommend booking via ClassPass. I have come to other sessions before and have seen people join the class after 5 minutes. I rushed and could not find parking and was 6 minutes late. They would not let me in or help me get into the next class. Zero stars for customer service. Also honestly the other classes I attended with very mid with a stuffy class feel without good air flow. It was just close to my house. Love working out Barre3. A friend introduced me and i felt in love with it. The studio vibe is supportive, warm and friendly. All the instructors are amazing! They listen to you and help you work on areas that you need and provide modifications on days that your body needs a little love and care. The front staff is also super amazing. I found B3LA via Groupon in 2016 and never looked back. Prior to barre, I took regular yoga classes (including vinyasa, Bikram, etc.) and dabbled in Pilates - but nothing quite captured me the way Barre3 did upon the first class. The workout is described as a dynamic hybrid between yoga, Pilates, and ballet barre - something like a modern aerobics class where we move together to the beat. There are several class types and each sequence is unique, but Signature classes include warm up, leg work, combo work, cardio, seat work, and core work. These will either be in the middle of the studio, at the barre, or on the floor and may include weights, bands, and/or other props at your preference. Be prepared for a burn like no other - modifications and listening to your body are always encouraged! For first-timers, I'd recommend parking under Whole Foods Los Altos or in the Colonnade Apartments parking structure since street parking is limited. Arrive early for check in, where staff will introduce you to the instructor, show you were to stow your belongings (aside from water, etc., no personal items allowed in the studio), and get you set up at a barre station. No need to bring your own props/gear - all of this will be provided. Plan to go barefoot or wear grip socks. Heads up, if you're running more than 5 minutes behind start time, you'll be unable to join class. Lastly, I've been with this studio through three different ownerships - Alene and her team have done the most incredible job building community through fun events and socials, like member events, outdoor classes, and book club. Keep an eye out for the next gathering! Overall, Barre3 has been the best workout experience and everyone at the Los Altos studio - staff, instructors, clients - is amazing. By the time we started having this conversation about how they weren't letting me in , we was ten minutes late into the class. They said absolutely not. They further could not reschedule or refund me, so now I'll be charged a substantial No show fee, in addition to what I already paid for the class. I have never been late before. The studio is clean and well ventilated (fans are on, and the doors are open to allow for circulation). I have been coming here for the last two years. Pros - Membership packages have long expiration dates. I have a busy work schedule so it is hard for me to go on a regular basis and the short 1-3 month expiration dates usually deter me from purchasing - All the ladies who work here are very nice and welcoming - They keep the place very clean esp their two bathrooms (there are diapers there too) - They offer feet wipes (I like to wear sticky socks to class) - They have a day care for parents with small children for an added fee - I have done one livestream class via Zoom during COVID times. It is well done and I enjoyed it - They offer classes via Classpass as well - Offer outdoor classes in a park in Palo Alto during COVID times (this is even further for me so I haven't been) Cons - It is a bit far for me (20+ minute drive) - They do offer parking within the apartment complex - Initially when I started you can find parking- prior to covid it can be a bit challenging esp with the new Cafe opened next to Barre 3 - The don't like to turn on the fans so it gets really stuffy. Not sure if they want us to sweat more so we feel like we are getting more of a work out. - Classes precovid can be very packed (more stuffy) - They are not strict about their on-time policy so people are wandering in 10-15 minutes which is even worse when someone is new. (This girl who was new showed up 10 minutes late - didn't seem like the girl at the front desk did a review with her so the new girl tried to use my equipment and also use my barre) read more

I tried this once using Class Pass and i was not a fan. Very inconvenient set up and the workout wasn't the best either. Setup: The studio is set up so that the barre lines the walls, so you are facing the wall (with no mirrors). The instructor then teaches in the middle of the room, which means that you can't actually see anything they are doing while you're at the barre. This makes it quite hard to follow along and the people around me were constantly stopping their workout to swivel around and try to see what the instructor was doing. Surely there must be a better way to do this? The studio was also PACKED with very little room to maneuver. Workout: The class I went to tried to incorporate stretching, strength, and cardio but it felt like it didn't hit any of the three targets fully. I would pass on this studio. read more

barr3 is a great working out experience. The instructor teaches you how to properly stretch, workout using the small medicine ball, techniques on breathing, using dumbells, etc. This method works out your whole body. It's a lot harder than it seems but it takes discipline and mental focus to prepare your body for the workout. I started to drench in sweat the first 5 mins. This is no joke! I was totally not prepared. The instructor was helpful and she walked around making sure people were properly doing the exercises correct. By the end of the workout my legs kept shaking and my thighs, calves, and body was sore. I could barely walk lol! Great workout! I'd defintely come back read more

There's also plenty of free parking in the structure behind the studio. Instructors can be a little spotty in terms of the quality of the workout. Everyone is super friendly and welcoming here! I enjoy the workout of incorporating big and small range motions to bring balance to the body. The facility is always clean and they have 2 bathrooms. Some things that sets them apart from other barre studios are that you can go barefoot since the floor is hardwood and they have childcare available. They also sell Beyond Yoga apparel and cute bkr water bottles. For parking, you can park at their new garage behind the studio or at Whole Foods next door. Been to this studio a few times through ClassPass since it opened, and always leave impressed with the workout I got! A lot of barre studios, when you go a lot, tend to become routine and not much of a challenge after a while, but I always work up a good sweat when I come to classes at this chain. They seem to incorporate more cardio intervals and faster movements than other studios but it's still low in impact. I like that they integrate yoga and Pilates moves in there as well. It's pretty easy to book these classes not long beforehand, but the studio can get pretty full too. They have a bathroom, lockers, a water bottle filling station, and even child care, but no showers. There's parking in the back and in the apartment building behind that I don't usually have trouble finding a space. A big plus for me with this location is that it's right next to Whole Foods and I can get in my workout and groceries done in one swoop! read more

Trying a 2 week special here to find a solid fitness studio in the area. Everyone is super friendly and the instructors are amazing! They also make signing up and booking classes really simple. I typically am a die-hard HIIT/bootcamp person, but these classes tap a different type of strength... like in muscles I didn't even know existed LOL and I was surprised how sore I was after my first class (the good sore). Having a Sunday or a Monday morning work out for 1 hour while my child is happily playing is the best way to spend my morning for some much needed me time. Barre3- I have only good things to say about the ladies and studio at this location. People are very warm and friendly, smiles all around. The studio is clean and well-maintained, there are cubbies for you to place your belongings, and there is a nice little retail area. For those of you with kiddos, there's also a play area for them as well. The classes follow a similar format, and the instructors are all great. I really appreciate how modifications are explained and encouraged, and the overall vibe is more of a wellness 'listen to your body' and 'do what feels good for you right now.' Movements are larger than other barre classes (pure barre, bar method), which can be good to get your whole body involved, though sometimes I miss the targeted areas and more barre-centric exercises. The demographic here seems more like real women, as I've been in classes where I feel like I'm behind the scenes at New York Fashion Week. Parking is a breeze, plenty of space in the garage, on the street, or next door at Whole Foods. Pricing is comparable to other similar classes, so yes it's pricey. They do have instructor-in-training classes every now and then which are free and open to the public, so check those out if you have a chance. read more

I can't recommend Barre3 Los Altos enough. I've been going now since it opened 5 - 6 years ago. The owner for the last 3 of the years, Alene, is fantastic and gets to know everyone. Being a "member" is the best plan because you can come whenever you want and it makes it very cost effective, especially compared to everything else around here. The classes are really great, a mix of toning, cardio, stretching and mindfulness. I can see myself doing this for decades to come. I came to Barre3 for several months through classpass. I love the vibe of the studio-peaceful, uplifting, and free of judgment. I love all the challenges they do to encourage their clients to keep up with he workouts. The studio/workout is a low impact and gentle workout that seems targeted toward older women and new moms. The difficulty of the workout really depends on the instructor and can be hit or miss. More recently, I have found them transitioning toward more breathing exercises and meditation type activities which is not what I look for in a workout, so I had to stop coming. If you are looking for a holistic calming experience, I would recommend Barre3 but I would not recommend it as part of an exercise or weight loss plan. read more

I love all things barre. I've been tending to the barre for a long time, and have dabbled in various styles of the exercise regime that has swept the nation per se... Barre3, and the class that I experienced, did not offer much work at the barre which I prefer, however it was a great workout nonetheless. At the Barre3 studio, clients have the option to take the class in socks or bare footed, but I always opt for socks (make sure to bring your own sticky socks since I didn't see any for sale). Given the state of those who chose the latter of the two options, the floor could stand to be swept/mopped more often... If you want a good workout, stop in a give Barre3 a try! read more

I've never gone to an exercise studio or gym so regularly before I started frequenting this one! I love that this is a low impact workout that's easy to follow, but challenges me to my edge and has me sweating like crazy! My body has changed so much over the past year because of my workouts here, but that's not the focus. Love that the studio emphasis is on empowering you from within. Barre3 workouts generally follow the same pattern. First there is some cardio/squats to get you warmed up, followed by leg work, combo arm/cardio, seat work, ab work, the stretching. The difference between different Barre3 studios is in the instruction and amenities. Barre3 Los Altos is somewhere in the middle. First of all, the instruction is a bit inconsistent. I've had some amazing butt-kicking classes and some classes that felt more like a good stretch. Not gonna call anyone out but I did have a few amazing classes a couple years ago with a teacher named Rachel but haven't seen her around. There isn't a shower but two well-stocked bathrooms with body wipes, deodorant, dry shampoo, etc. So definitely enough to get ready after a not-so-sweaty workout, but Barre3 Menlo Park definitely wins when it comes to amenities with an actual shower. Parking can be a bit of a pain. In the wee hours of the AM you can park on the street in front of the building or in the back (there are a few guest parking spots) but during the day it becomes a bit more challenging. I suppose in a bind you can park across the street at the San Antonio Center, and sometimes I park in front of BevMo if I'm running late. All in all a solid class, OK amenities but no shower, some good instructors here. read more
