This place is the bommmmmmmb. The restaurant that everyone seems to go to has average food at best. This place definitely looks jenky, but the lady who runs this restaurant is a sweet heart. She even took tequila shots with us. We went with a group of 14, so we practically ordered almost everything on the menu. We had no complaints whatsoever. The standout dishes were from the fried fishes to all the different way they serve their shrimps.

So you're walking through town and you see smokeys across the street and its packed. On the other side Is a couple of tables with maybe one occupied that's cooking out of a shack. Resist the natural inclination to go to smokeys. Resist it. This is where it's at. This is the real baja style home cooking. Whatever they're serving, it's amazing. Been in three nights in a row now, and somehow it's better every time. Their shrimp 4 ways platter is to die for, and if you bring them your fish they will do things to it you didn't know were possible. Stray off the beaten path, and rewards often follow.

    Our tuna prepared 3 ways.

We brought our catch to Claudia on two nights of our fishing trip. Both dinners were amazing. Claudia's margaritas are the best! It is outdoor seating and comfortable. Definitely returning!!!

You could easily miss it if you blink. ;) The three of us sat down at a table in the middle of the establishment. They had the fans going, but because they use a wood burning fire, it is very smokey and you will end up smelling like a barbecue. As long as you don't mind that, the food was really good. We started off with the camaron ceviche (shrimp/prawn). It was priced at $7.50 usd which I thought was a bit on the pricer side for mexico, but it was huge and easily enough for 3 people as an appetizer. The chips here are store bought, not homemade, but I didn't come here for the chips. Next up was the entree. I ordered camaron imperales ($14) - huge prawns with cheese wrapped in bacon. They were really good a little bit too much cheese for me, but still tasty. They boys split the Pirata Combination ($16) which was one camaron imperales, one coconut shrimp topped with banana, one seabass, one piece of octopus served with a potato on top of a salad. They boys loved the combo! They have a variety of soda, beer and wine. I stuck with a homemade lemonade which was made with sparkling water. Service was great, street parking was easy. For the quality of food, the prices are reasonable.

I have to say, Smokey's stands out as an American bar-restaurant in an otherwise Mexican resort town. Their Shrimp Linguini Alfredo rivals any we've had in the US. And their Pescado Vericruzano (Yellowtail Veracruz) is superb. Both are top examples of what you would expect from a seafood region, such as San Francisco or New Orleans. Smokey's is probably the hottest club atmosphere in town also - a mix of stylish singles, sport fishermen, and American ex-patriot retirees, all becoming friends over the topic of food, drink and sports playing on 3-4 big-screen TVs. Attire is what-ever's-comfortable. And the parking lot is SUVs and 4-wheel ATVs, side by side. And I must say, our waitress, Gloria, was glorious! A couple locals on guitars and bongos play for tips - regulars, obviously known to everyone. After a week of Mexican cuisine elsewhere (tacos, enchiladas, and endless guacamole), it's really refreshing to find a more American diversion. The only thing missing are steak entrees, Smoky's is clearly a seafood restaurant and bar!
