I've been training with Burning Benjamins for the last year and have been thrilled with the…read moreexperience. My equine has an old injury that needs special consideration and they have gone above and beyond to keep that in mind, offer advice, and strategies to manage it, as well as to manage her arthritis. I've struggled in the past to find trainers that are willing to work with our physical limitations. Burning Benjamins has never pushed us beyond our abilities, but are able to also challenge us to continue to move outside our comfort zone in a safe and encouraging way. Horse health and happiness is always the first consideration. We regularly discuss feed management, training plans, tack fit, shoeing strategies, veterinary care as well as chiropractic and acupuncture treatments to assist in achieving our goals. It is a thoughtful process and my opinions and wishes are never disregarded in the discussions regarding any plan of action. The farm is a welcoming environment and you instantly feel like part of the team. On my first cross country schooling in years with my horse, the Burning Benjamins team was helpful, encouraging and so patient with my nerves. I couldn't have asked for a better first time back out. There was none of the "get over yourself" attitude I've experienced with other trainers. This was encouraging and we worked through strategies to acknowledge and overcome my fears, not ignore them. We also worked on creating the best experience possible for my horse, and we both came out that day with a great attitude for the future!

I've known Chiantel for quite a few years now and she is one of the most determined, hardworking…read morepeople I know. When we met, we really connected. She has taken so many horses from nothing to great and all of her students love her. Her commitment to horses, both her own and those owned by others (client or not), is hard to beat. She has been involved in so many different equine operations and has a real plethora of varying experiences including a certification in equine massage, and a Bachelor's of Science degree. Finally, her love for eventing is impressive, based in preference and reason, but only ask her about it if you're prepared to have several hours of conversation on the topic. Chiantel is a genuine and special individual. If you're looking for help with your horse in any way, I absolutely recommend giving Chiantel and Burning Benjamins a real shot. P.S.: The name of her business is hysterical, but any investment you make in her or it, is anything but wasteful.

We've been satisfied clients of Shady Spring for years. What they do, they do quite well. Our…read moredogs have been well cared for and have come home happy, well-adjusted and (almost always) healthy. Once in awhile a little kennel cough, but what kennel is not plagued occasioanally. Our dogs always are happy to go there, with no trace of anxiety or fear. On-premises grooming is quite excellent, but for this and several other available customizations , there is a (fully disclosed) up-charge. Pricing is fair, but if you opt for the special attenton packages (camping, hiking, cuddle time, etc.), it can get a little pricey. Hours are sufficiently flexible too.

We unfortunately had a very negative experience at Shady Springs…read more We don't have a car so we had to pay $120 round trip for our dog to be picked up from our apartment and dropped back off. We were traveling and not due to land back in DC until late afternoon. I expressed this to them, and they told me they could drop him off between 5p and 7p. Well, around noon on the day we were traveling I called them to ask when exactly he'd be dropped off. They told me he had been sitting at our vets office for hours already--no notification he'd be dropped off 7 hours before we expected, nothing. To make matters worse, he also had on no collar because they make you take it off your dog when you drop him off. We were still halfway across the country, making this a very stressful situation. When I called to ask why they would do this, they told me they would "never" have said he could be dropped off that late. They offered no help or recourse, and basically said it was my problem my dog was sitting alone in a vets office while we were still many hours away. Luckily we have friends who could go get him--not sure what we would have done otherwise. Also, the base fee simply gets your dog put in an "enclosure" (cage) and fed. Any other human interaction, including walks, or time outside will cost you extra. I've sat on this for a few months, because I really hate leaving bad reviews. But after sharing our experience with other dog owners I've decided I should write this. Don't board your dog here.
