I think that I bought into those sappy ubiquitous commercials that highlight an Edward Jones financial advisor with an almost familial relationship with an investor. Making a speech a sons wedding, checking in with the family while they're on the daughters college exploration trip.... Nice, right? THIS WILL NOT BE YOUR EXPERIENCE! You'll be lucky if you have even monthly contact with your investor- as was my specific case with Ginny. Our introductory meeting was great, she was all energy and concern and the fake twinkle in her eye spoke of investment knowledge and charisma. Then that fell apart. As soon as she had my account on automatic deposit I stopped hearing from her. Calls weren't returned. The long term investment planning, portfolio management and trend watching that we talked about was watered down to automatic withdraws. For the reader- I am not a novice investor, but I'm also not a financial advisor. That help and someone to clue me in and alert me to what I wasn't considering or simply didn't know was what I was looking for. Ginny wasted my time and, to be realistic, my money-, the money that EJ's takes off the top for a simplistic monthly write up they e-mail you listing preferred stocks. One hour of Jim Cramer a week pretty much does the same thing. I don't know about EJ nation wide, but this experience was a bust.
