Re Barsch Animal Clinic which at one time may have been a good place to take a pet but now just seems like a new kind of hell, and expensive learning lesson. This is what happened: it's 11 pm And I'm walking dogs and saw I had a message. It's Barsch: my Friday appt, which is prepaid, is cancelled (the follow up is included in your original bill you see? No I never did but hey!) They don't want to take care of Mollie or Gio and are "xeroxing" files so I have them. I am not to contact them and Mollie is in "deplorable condition". What!!? This is a vet! I trusted My dogs health to you to help her and I cannot speak with this doctor at all. It started this AM when the ?receptionist called to confirm Drop offs for both of my pets for Friday. I asked her if Dr Barsch was going to return my call from last week that he never did, because Mollie had her episode. And did they have the report from the VEG-And i really want to know what he thinks is the cause. So the woman put me on hold for 10 minutes to check to see if they had the records but when she came back she said "mollie needs to be vaccinated". They are too expensive for vaccinations so I take them to harmony. I reminded her that I sent them the records from 2/8 of this year which included bloodwork which I discussed with the doctor and he still wanted more so I paid for that too but has this vet spoken to me? No. I reiterated they have them and/or I will resend them. Mind you I have paid for X-rays bloodwork and tons of visits but no actual conversation with the vet since he mysteriously diagnosed her with pneumonia last Monday, price tag 781$. So - because I just kept saying "can I speak with the vet please" she got upset and said we have to give her this rabies shot before we see her. I said she just had one on 2/8. Can i please speak with the doctor? She put me on hold again, so I waited and waited no one came on the line. I hung up and went to my appointment. While there they start blowing up my phone but I can't answer it bc obviously I am in a meeting. Now as I listen to this message - it was the office manager Myra. She was not the person I spoke with - but she told me I was "rude." On a message. Well I would say I was firm because my requests were ignored repeatedly on this phone call and I still have zero answers, now with more questions because this woman, Myra, told me Mollie is in "deplorable condition" Is this what the Vet thinks too? Will I ever really know? Someone else wrote that it's obviously it's all about the money and not about the animals. I agree. Run! Honestly they are a mess. Stay as far away from this place as possible. You cannot speak to the vet and you will be insulted and apparently the office manager doesn't put records in charts either. read more

We have four cats in our house. No, I am not a crazy cat guy... You have to have a minimum of five for that... You can imagine how many times we visit the vet in a year. We went to many different vets trying to find the right one...This one was costly, this one was mean, etc. Dr. Barsch and his team are just right. They are friendly, they know our pets by name and they don't rush us through the visit. Best of all, a lot of clinics are corporate owned and their main goal is to push products on you that your pet may or may not even need. Dr. Barsch gets to the issue at hand and makes diagnosis that is best for the furbaby/wing baby/scale baby etc... Not for what may be good for the bottom line. If you have pets, you owe it to them...and yourself to visit Barsch Animal Clinic. If you don't, then who really is the crazy pet owner?! read more

Worst vet I've ever had the displeasure of entering. Rude management, nice front desk.

NEVER GO HERE!!! Barsch misdiagnosed my 7-year old dog with bone cancer. He said my dog would have about 4-6 months to live but I could extend that another 6+ months with amputation of the leg where it was starting. I opted not to amputate and just keep him comfortable. That was over 6 months ago. My dog is happy as can be so I decided to get a second opinion. Over the last two weeks the real experts as BluePearl (oncologists, radiographers, & ortho surgeons) all confirmed that it's arthritis and MAYBE a bone (ortho only) issue with one knee. NOT CANCER! Barsch ALWAYS knew that my dog had bad hips/bones as I gave him the full history of when I found him 6 years ago and got an FHO surgery. By the way Barsch had been seeing him for about 3 of those years. I spoke to him on the phone this afternoon simply wanting back the almost $1k that I wasted at Barsch just to spend that again getting the real diagnosis and he was trying to lie to me about what he said. He's also clearly very forgetful. I'm sure he'll respond to this review with more lies, just no whatever they say is BS. At the end of the day, how on earth do you accidentally diagnose aggressive cancer instead of arthritis? I'll be reporting him to the FL veterinary board. read more

After spending hours at the Humane Society Clinic and being told they were too behind to take us, we decided not to go back for my pooch's vet needs (although I totally still support their mission!). We instead called Barsch. They were able to schedule us a few days later, and the best part? We could walk to get there! The check in area is a bit frenzied and there is a constant feeling of being in the way when other animals come in which can make you feel a bit anxious (only reason I gave 4 stars). Dr Barsch and his team are very nice, knowledgeable, and treat your pet like their own. The prices seem reasonable and they give great suggestions on health maintenance and promotion. I definitely recommend Barsch for your veterinary needs. read more

I have been taking my dogs here for over a decade now. Friendly staff and a great Vet. and they are very reasonable on pricing. The only tiny smear is that they can get caught with too many patients and over promise on time/availablity of medicine. read more

I'm beyond infuriated at the unnecessary tests and drugs prescribed to our poor 16-year-old dog. He has been taking meds for fluid on the lungs and heart, and more recently, for kidney issues that required him to be switched to a low-protein diet. I should have actually done my research sooner, because I discovered his protein levels were within normal range, and there is no evidence of him having kidney issues based upon his most recent hematology test. Must I mention the fact that now it was discovered that the poor baby likely has acid reflux, based upon him coughing up blood and constantly coughing? This poor boy went through months of heartburn because he was misdiagnosed. This poor baby went through months of extremely expensive nasty low-protein prescription food because of a misdiagnosis. This poor baby has ZERO fluid on his lungs, and NO congestive heart failure - another misdiagnosis. NEVER taking any more furr-babies to this practice. Ever. What an utter disgrace. Especially during a pandemic. I won't even get into the fact that you have to wait outside, in your car, with a mask on, while your baby is carried in and treated, alone, by strangers. read more

I've been taking my various furbabies to Dr. Barsch for over 30 years and have sent many friends his way all of whom are very happy with him. He won't waste my money, but he DOES know that if there is any way we can swing it and it will help our dog, we want it done. Over the years, all my dogs have enjoyed him and the time he takes with them. At one time, he attempted to have more doctors to carry the load, but had to let them go because everyone wanted him to see their babies, not another doctor! That says a lot right there. I trust my family members with him and no one else! read more

I would not recommend taking any animal here for their services. Many of the employees have no clue as to what they are doing. I had a friend who went and her animal was given medication by the staff that was supposed to be discontinued, thankfully her pet was okay but no one was reprimanded for the mistake. Many of the staff members are also very rude and I can not imagine how they treat the animals if that's how they treat the owners. read more

When we moved back to Tampa three years ago, we were looking for a place that we felt comfortable handling our pets like we had in Houston. My family had recommended Dr. Barsch and we decided to give him a try. Boy are we glad we did. He has been great with our pets and very knowledgeable about all issues pertaining to our two dogs and one cat. We couldn't imagine going anywhere else. I have been taking my cats to Dr. Barsch since 1992. Thus far he has cared for four cats and a dog. I have two cats currently. There are many things I like about this clinic. First and foremost, Dr. Barsch is a dedicated veterinarian who really, really likes animals. He is compassionate and kind with me, the owner, but more important, with my pets. He takes time to provide rationale for recommended treatments, and I have never felt that he was over-recommending procedures or advocating for unnecessary treatments. I have thus trusted him throughout the years, such that when he does suggest treatments (always with a clear and well-reasoned explanation) I make sure my pets get them. I believe the prices are also very reasonable. His staff complete the picture with their efficiency and obvious love of animals.
