The college is so great . However they should cancel professor Ross . She's a racist in teachers clothing . I joined performance arts for a more culturally experienced learning. And what I experienced was racism . At first I thought this can't be real but even a few guest in the audience mentioned it during the recital. Professor Ross dropped several students from a course that was registered classes for students she made us audition for sorts got little women those that got the part wasn't dropped it's so confusing just as confusing as why we had class 530 to 10 during break week. several violations that wasn't addressed . Final grade I received was a F for brodway voice her grading rubic is outdated insane completely a lie . My experience at the college was great but Professor Ross drf killed it for me read more

BCC is one of the few colleges where students, especially Art students, get individual feedback in their early journey. It is a joy to see the growth embodied in the work of continuing students. I have had it with this school!! I decided to enroll here because all the junior colleges are full in my town. I needed to take algebra to transfer to a 4 year college. They offer many online courses which seemed like a great idea . . . WRONG!!! First off, the online website looks like an unorganized mess!! It was difficult to find my classes and get started. After a few weeks I started having issues with my algebra class. It was hard to get any help and the online tutoring sight is ridiculous and makes no sense. Long wait for an online tutor also. The MyMathlab freezes up all the time and I called and they still havent fixed the problem. The final issue was when I called to inquire about my financial aid check I was told I would have a final payment in November. I took a week off from work to study, thinking I would have another check and they told me that I was told wrong information. At this point I am done with this place and am not coming back. Figure it out people. You are supposed to be an institute of learning, but you are rather a library of misinformation and disorganization. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. NEVER take an online course through this school. It's very unorganized, hard to get a hold of anyone, and the website is a mess. My class had a proctored final exam, and when I went to take it, the login/password given to my testing center from my professor didn't even work! It didn't work for half the class!!! Extremely frustrating. I'm glad this class is over, I will not recommend this school (for online classes) to anyone. read more

Initially I started out taking classes at both Citrus in Glendora and Barstow, but became frustrated with the inability to meet with counseling at Citrus. I found Barstow more helpful in terms of guidance and getting my classes, so I started attending on regular basis. The counselors have sat with me on the phone for over an hour, discussing my goals. Couldn't get this at Citrus and it is truly appreciated. Anytime I contact the school, they are helpful and I don't feel as if I am a bother. Every department I've come in contact with has been a positive interaction. I am almost done with my general studies and will be transferring soon. I honestly have no complaints about this school. read more

"When the stars go blue "Was the song I heard when I walked in the art show it was a tranquil artsy kind of vibe. The art show had a variety art. There was art ranging from oil paintings to acrylic paintings also a lot of handmade craft art from pottery to copper wire.one of the paintings I liked was from an artist named Janet Early the way she painted the beach was very nice with a good hand brushing. There was several good artist like Jennifer Jimenez painting of a coyote and Brittney Hingel had another very good painting of a beach. Despite the size of the room, Barstow Communtiy College's Art program hosted a beautiful gallery tonight. The variety of work was impressive, they had sculptures, paintings, and sketches of art. Also, the live music added a nice friendly tone to the room that drew in wondering students and staff. The detail each student put into their art shows how passionate they are about what they are creating and want others to see the beauty they see. Overall, the creative minds within the art program at Barstow Community College left me in complete awe with just how incredibly talented each individual truly is. read more

This evening's art show at the Barstow Community College was outstanding. A variety of artwork was show cased throughout the hallway in the Learning Resource Center building. The artists at this college are remarkable. My hat is off to them. They are very talented and they should pursue their skills in art. The hosts of the event served a variety of appetizers and sweets. It was nice to walk around with a small plate of food. I felt like I was in an LA art show. The beautiful singing voice in the background was a lady named Debbie C. Her music really set the atmosphere on fire, I thoroughly enjoyed her acoustic guitar and amazing voice. The soft music really set the mood to look at all the beautiful artwork. read more

I actually went back to school after being out for 36 years so that tells you how old I am, never the less I walked into Barstow Community College from the get go I met My Counselor Melissa Matteson and she made me feel good about coming back to school after so many years being out of school. At Barstow Community College the Professors are the best Sociology professor Dawn Howey and History Professor Ramon Vasconcellos and past professor Chris Holtz were the the best will never forget their dedication to the students . read more

I believe that if you have a yearning to further your education and stationed here in Fort Irwin try Barstow Community College. The staff is excellent and willing to work to get you on the right path to success. The professors come from far and wide some travel from Bakersfield just to have an opportunity to teach some of the Nation's Finest Warriors. BCC is Nationally accredited so what ever class you take there will transfer to any 4yr University... "I know this from expirience". They have a variety of classes and degree plans, also degree plans that are in conjunction with UCLA, Park U, and many others; and you can take all your classes using BCC teleconference system... I've been to a few community colleges, currently finishing up at one in Seattle, WA and I have to say, all of them pale in comparison to BCC. It's a wonderful gem in the desert. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly, and you know they have your best interest at heart. --it's affordable: I can take like two or three class for about $300, which is crazy cheap. Here in Seattle one class is almost $700! Barstow is not a greedy scam like most schools today that put profits over education. They really care about helping people move up in there career fields. --it's a positive campus: I miss all of the events on campus that happens almost daily. Talk about an inclusive campus, there is always an event to bring students together and contests and different ways to make us feel like we belong. My current college, Seattle Central makes probably triple as much money but never has a single event on campus, it's soulless unlike BCC. --it's not overly political or PC. My current college has posters everywhere beating the dead horse of "all genders, races, religions, etc are welcome" that's nice and all but it becomes redundant over and over on every wall. Barstow lives diversity, they don't have to wear it like some pretentious badge of honor and push it down your throat like thought police. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ONLINE STUDENTS! I wasted a week of my life trying to get into an online Math class here!!! The one time someone answered the phone, they said no one got my faxed transcripts , so I had to email them...no problem...so I thought! Then I still couldn't add to the class, registration was blocked. Not sure why if I am a brand new student. Prerequisite was cleared finally after many emails sent and hours of being on hold and no one picked up. I left VM too and no call back. Email is the only way to communicate with this school which is fine, but my problem was never solved.. It was a new problem after another. I explained it and even took screen shots to show problems, and each time they said that I should be able to register...nope still wasn't able to do so. The system they have must be out of date or something and their website says it is not secure. What a waste of my life!! Oh yeah and you have to fill out some long syllabus form online and submit to instructor which doesn't help you get into the class. Beware like the other reviewers stated. I guess they don't want my $$!! read more

Very small college, but mostly good teachers, a great education, pretty campus, and you won't feel like a number.

Finally on the last leg of courses, all because of Barstow Community College. Almost every class I needed was available online with exception of my required lab and speech class. Professors are amazing and I love that even though I do not live locally I am still able to reach my professors for the most part. I use Rate My Professor to choose the right professor for me. Also, online classes are done in 8 and a half weeks so you do twice the work in half the time, they are not for everyone. Staff can be difficult to reach but it is a small community college in a small community. On the other hand, best way to do it is to make an appointment with a counselor, meet with financial aid and get everything done in one day. read more

Head out to Barstow College to their art show I myself have never cared for art and have never went to an art show. I was really impressed by how the students took pride in their work and how a little town can but on a good show for their students. this is there twenty two art show they had art of all type from painting to ceramic art you always have a chance to talk to the artist about what they seen in there art and where they would like to see them self's when they are done with college at Barstow. It was a fun environment that you can bring your kids to they also have food and drinks and they have someone singing in the background.Best of all its free so I had a good time and recommend it to everyone, if you're in the Barstow area good job students of the art class at Barstow College. read more

I loved Barstow campus. I went to VVC and it was awful. You could never register for any classes and there was never parking. After obtaining 2 parking tickets in the first week, I drove to Barstow. I register and got every class I wanted and parking was free. Campus was green and staff helped with all questions. Loved it. read more

The BCC Art Show Gallery opening is back again! This show has been going on every semester for 11 years making it the 22nd showing. There were many beautiful and creative pieces, anywhere from portraits, photography, animals, pottery, etc. The art work is all done by the students of Barstow Community College taking the different art classes the school has to offer. Many of these pieces look so realistic and have so much passion behind it. I enjoyed seeing the many talents of the different individuals at this showing, Nice Work! read more

This college is unorganized and the staff is lacking in training and education. We have been working with them since December on our children's FAFSA along with other issues and they lose paperwork, do not return phone calls and are unable to follow through on the simplest of tasks. A few of the teachers are amazing but the staff mostly consists of those looking to do the bare minimum required of them in teaching the students. One of my children has a 504 due to medical reasons and the teaching staff, administration and counselors have no idea how to inform and educate each other on the requirements. Additionally, we are a military family and move frequently. We do understand how transferring records, transcripts and FAFSA works. This school is just unable to work together within their own walls to provide the service students need. I would recommend looking at other schools. read more

This is by far the worst school experience I have ever had! I had heard about this school and was excited to enroll because they have a huge selection of online classes. They offer proctored exams which you could take at a location close to home if you don't live nearby which was great since I live 2 hours away. Unfortunately once enrolled, getting any help from the school became a painful process. No matter what time of day you call, the phone just rings with no answer and you're forced to leave a message and wait days for them to return it. Had to fax over documents but ended up having to mail them after several attempts because their fax line wasn't working for weeks on end! I was told my financial aid check would be mailed at the end of November. After 2 weeks of waiting around for it, I called for them to tell me that checks still hadn't been mailed out and they didn't expect to do so for another week. I had my final straw and enrolled in a new college for next semester as this is to much of a headache for me. Now, I am struggling to get my transcripts from this school! Their website is telling me my social security number is wrong (it has been my number for 29 years so I think I have it memorized by now)! Trying to get a hold of someone all week to figure out the problem but so far no luck so far. If you do not live close to this school, I highly recommend finding another school. You can't get anything done in a timely manner unless you can personally show up on campus! read more
