Wow, what a life change Barton Chiropractic gave my family and me!! In August I started suffering from mild dizziness. I don't want to say it was vertigo, because it went constant, but it was frustrating. Luckily it never happened when I was driving, but often while I was doing every day tasks, and doing my job as a fitness instructor. It made me nervous, especially when it kept going and got worse. In September I was at the farmers market and saw the booth for Barton Chirpopractic. I had noticed in some pictures of myself that I looked uneven in my shoulders. That, and the dizziness made me stop and talk to them. Dr. Josh and Dr. Meir were there and instantly made me comfortable. My first appointment they did xrays and all the usual tests, etc., and still, I felt very comfortable. They asked me to bring my husband in to be checked, and then we'd review the xrays with him there. I personally really appreciated this as I felt like it was very caring. My husbands work schedule is difficult to work with, but they graciously worked around it to get him in at a time that worked for him. When they showed me my xrays I saw scoliosis that I've known about since I was young. I had gone to a different chiropractor when I was about 8 and they diagnosed me with mild scoliosis, but it wasn't something we could afford to fix being low income. I also had some issues in my neck that could possibly have been causing the dizziness. They put me on a regimen of three visits a week for five months. It seemed daunting. But man, was it worth it. First of all, the team became like family, I loved getting to see them three times a week, and they helped me a ton!! My dizziness went away withjn 5 weeks, and they helped with my back pain, and so many other things. My husband also tends to throw his back out regularly, and hasn't had that issue since seeing the team at Barton Chiropractic! We are now bringing our kids in with us as well. Waited to get an adjustment for an hour , got back watched their cult video and then doctor came in and said they only wanted to take x rays. A few years ago, I was suffering from neck pain that sent pain down my arm. I was always skeptical of chiropractors, but after trying everything to make the pain go away I went to see the good people at Barton Chiropractic. I got relief from the pain. I went see Dr.Barton a month ago. I had a hard time walking on my leg after taking a nap. Went to see him and asked to adjust my leg. Don't go there if you don't want to be misdiagnosed with some scary problem. It is a scam. I was shocked when Dr.Barton said I might have a tumor and he will not adjust me with out taking ex ray first. He was very serious about the tumor and said he did not want to break it. He also said that he has seen many tumors in the legs. Lol.... I went out of his office limping and was super mad as he could easily do simple adjusting and just stretching my muscle. Went to see another chiropractor next day and he just opened my leg and stretched it and it was good as new. The new chiropractor laughed and said that it was an old scare technique that some chiropractors use to get repeating clients. read more

I had the most bizarre experience here. I had never been to a chiropractor before, and was VERY hesitant. My neck had been hurting for months, so I decided to give them a try. I went in for a consultation, and he took some x-rays and even cracked my neck. At the end of the visit, the chiropractor said he needed for me to come back b/c he saw something in my x-rays that could be an issue, but wouldn't tell me what the problem was! He and the receptionist were also very insistant that I bring my husband in for the next visit. I do not need my husband to come with me to doctor's visits, and they made it seem like something was really wrong with me. It was very unsettling, but I reassured them I do not need my husband to miss work to come to a chiropractor appt with me. I made a follow up appt even though I knew I did not want to return. I called my doctor afterwards to make an appointment with a legitimate doctor. My doctor also asked to get a copy of the x-rays from the chiropractor. Once I sent my doctor the x-rays, she told me the x-rays were not even taken of my neck. It was a different back of my back! The chiropractor was completely lying that he saw something wrong in my x-rays!!!! I went in for proper xrays at the doctors office, and they concluded there was nothing wrong with my neck. It was stress in my muscles! BEWARE of this place. They are shady. read more

This man is absolutely horrible. The worst chiropractor I've ever seen. I've had wonderful chiropractors in the past that I've loved, but this guy gives them a bad name. A few weeks ago my boyfriend hurt his back while playing sports, and we decided to go to a chiropractor. He lives in Walnut Creek, and this one happened to be part of his insurance plan's list of chiropractors, so we just picked him out of the blue. Boy was that wrong. First of all, he made the injury sound really really bad, then proceeded to tell us that my boyfriend's spine was rotated, and that it would take 6 months of treatment, coming in 3 times a week, to fix it. Since we were being told by a professional (and his walls are decorated with lots and lots of plaques), we thought this was the right thing to do. He's got this ridiculous system where you get a number, go to a hallway that has closed doors on the left and right, and go into the stall that corresponds to the number you've received. Then you have to push in a knob to indicate that you're here. When the knob is pushed back, that's the sign to come in. It felt more like he was running a factory rather than a medical practice. Made us feel so unappreciated and not taken care of. On top of that, he spends less than two minutes (literally) with each patient. It's boom, you're in, and zip you're out. There is no personal attention paid to you whatsoever. For a problem that he stressed was so grave and in need of immedate attention, he simply cracked my boyfriend's back once, then cracked his neck in one direction. Boom. You're done. Twenty five dollars for a minute and a half of his time. And then he goes on to the next patient...the guy must be making a fortune. Two weeks into his treatment and they had not yet figured out the insurance policy. Dr. Barton charged $25 copay per visit, so we thought that was it. However a bill arrived a few days ago from the insurance company that says we owe them $200. Finally fed up with the treatment we were getting, we decided to switch doctors. On the last day of treatment with Dr. Barton, my boyfriend mentioned that he would not be coming in any more. Dr. Barton nodded, then told him to sit down. He then cracked my boyfriend's neck, but in the OTHER direction, the wrong direction from which he had been cracking it for the last few weeks. This caused my boyfriend tremendous discomfort and pain for a few days, making him so skeptical and distrustful of chiropractors. Then the pain got so bad that he gave in and went to a chiropractor across the street from his workplace. This new doctor looked at the X-rays, said that the problem was not that bad. He then showed my boyfriend some exercises that he could do to strengthen his lower back. He spent a lot of time evaluating the pain, asking many questions to the degree of pain, where it was, etc. (Barton had just looked at the X-ray and said "Uh huh...this is a problem here, this is what really worries me.") The new chiropractor looked at the insurance policy and said that there was a $3.50 copay for each doctor's visit. $3.50. Not $25. We were being ripped off! And on top of that, the new chiropractor was surprised to hear that Barton had cracked my boyfriend's neck the other way. Usually you're only supposed to crack in one direction. I know, I checked with my massage therapist friend and another chiropractor. So in summary.. 1. Barton doesn't spend time or attention to care for your pain. 2. The man rips you off 3. He intentionally screws up your body in the end. Stay away from him, he's really bad news. read more

I went in to see Dr. Barton because of the screaming deal I found on Groupon for the $29 massage & exam. I entered the waiting room and was greeted by a friendly staff, that was the best part. I was led back to the exam room where I was plopped down in front of a short movie (2 min) explaining the benefits of Chiropractic. Here we go timeshare presentation! After having to wait nearly 10 minutes after my movie ended, Dr Barton came in and met with me for about two minutes. He said I definitely needed care ( of course) and when I didn't seem all that interested he said he was going to leave and have another doctor finish my exam. Really? You needed two doctors? Now the best part is after he went to find the guy I overhear them talking about me outside the door......." Yeah Dr. so and so, can you finish this exam up? He doesn't seem very interested in care even though he needs it so if that changes let me know. If not just set him up with his massage and send him on his way." Now either they don't know how easy it is to hear through their office walls or he was trying to indirectly tell me how badly I needed his services. Now on to the massage.... I was poked for about 35 minutes by a woman who works there part time because she has enough money that she didn't have to work. This among many other fascinating stories from her personal life filled my ears instead of the standard raindrop sounds I'm used to hearing. After trying to end the massage 35 minutes into it, I said that I had purchased an hour so I would like her to finish the time. (You can imagine how bad the massage she begrudgingly added 10 minutes onto was after that.) I left with one of the worst overall experiences that I've had anywhere. Groupon refunded me, and I hope this review changes Dr. Barton's habit of treating people poorly, and only viewing them as dollar signs. read more

Dr Barton was very kind as are all the people I interacted with at their practice. I have not been treated by him so I cannot tell you how that experience is. I have, however, been into see about being treated by him. My intent in writing this review is to give you the most honest account of my experience. I wish his practice well but I don't agree with how he handles his business and didn't appreciate how I felt upon leaving. I was looking for affordable care and called to ask for a price because I do NOT have insurance that covers chiropractic care nor do I have a very flexible budget so was trying to be careful on wasting my or this office's time. This day, mind you, I was in EXTREME pain due to my lower back being out. I was told I could come in that morning for their special that was going on: free x-rays and consultations. I was treated very kindly. They had fresh chocolate chip cookies to enjoy and it was very pleasant there. I had a very thorough exam done to 'pinpoint' my problem and was given a free x-ray. I was very thankful for that. However, I asked THREE times what their pricing was and explained I could not afford much. All three times I was told they couldn't give me exact pricing based on the treatment I would need. The x-ray which needed to be processed would give them and, therefore, me that information. Thus, I would need to come BACK to find out what this would cost me AND to be adjusted. We scheduled my return appointment for later that day. Upon doing some research, however, I learned that the way their pricing works is that they finance your bill of thousands of dollars through a pre-approved credit company they have a partnership with. I knew immediately I couldn't afford their care and called to cancel the appointment and was blessed to find EXTREMELY affordable care that I'm so thankful for. Dr. B called and texted me back to say he still would like to review my x-ray with me so I went in though he knew I wasn't going to continue with him. What I felt and experienced was that I was trying to be pressured into going with his care as he explained how if I didn't get care and things fixed, my neck would degenerate quickly (like in the next three years)... He also said he would give me a deal (only $3K) but that I would need be locked in for three months-maybe more based on my progress. There is more to say, but I don't think it would be profitable. Though everyone was very kind and I appreciated the free x-ray and thorough exam (he also offered to give my x-ray to the chiropractor I found), I left feeling very uncared for as a patient and as a person. I felt like they really just wanted to hook, line, and sinker another patient for a bigger paycheck. NOT the kind of practice I want to go to or support. I am acquainted with the family on a personal level and they are all so kind. It really saddened and grieved me to see how they run their practice. I would say, if you think you can afford paying an arm and a leg for chiropractic care and you don't mind a practice that works their shpeel on clients, you could definitely give them a try. If not, you can find something that works better for you and, and perhaps, acts in a way that you genuinely believe they care for your well-being. read more

I am a bit confused about the bad reviews, I have been coming off and on to Barton Chiropractic for years and have always found Dr. Barton and his staff very nice and very professional? I had a problem years back with curvature of the spine and started going to a doctor in San Leandro. He was ok, but I still had some pain. I went to Dr. Barton and he gave me a series of adjustments over a 4 to 6 week period and I'm back to normal. I have since kept going to keep my spine correctly adjusted and have never had any pain since. I noticed that a couple of reviewers seemed to go to the same church as Dr. Barton and might have known him personally. I have a feeling that this personal issue might have translated over to poor relations and they are trying to hurt his professional life. It's a shame, he's a good doctor. read more

I agree that Dr. Barton does not spend a lot of time with each patient, but he's got a new Doctor at his office, Dr. Coponio. He's amazing and pretty easy on the eyes as well. Dr. Coponio, has been the doctor for my family. My mom and I were seeing Dr. Barton for a while and decided to go to Dr. Coponio instead because he takes his time, he feels out where you need to be adjusted and makes you feel like family. My mother-in-law and brother-in-law have been seeing Dr. Barton for years; she had surgery years ago for a tumor in her spin and used to always be in pain. One Christmas she was in a walker because of the pain, but seeing Dr. Barton more often has helped her A LOT. Last Christmas she bearly even had to use her cane because of him. My mother-in-law and brother-in-law admit that Dr. Baton is a bit impersonal but Dr. Coponio has been much better. I see Dr. Coponio 3 times a week, I'm there in the morning so I don't have a lot of time to chit chat but when I do we sit and he tells me about himself and talks to me about my back problems and actually knows my story (because he takes the time to talk to me about it) Yes, it's not cheap and my insruance doesn't cover any of it, but Dr. Barton has helped me out and has given me a HUGE discount on my bill. The staff is great, they make you feel welcome and at home. I'm a fan of Barton Chiropractic... My back feels great, my posture is better and I've only been going for 2 months! read more

This place is very shady... when I was new to the area, I went for an initial consultation here. Dr Barton said I needed x-rays, so I did them, and was charged $250. at that point since they were done already, I was in no position to negotiate, so when I asked if they had any kind of new patient free eval with X-rays deal, they said 'no'. so I paid the $250 and moved on. Next up were the scare tactics telling me I was in terrible shape (exact words: "I'm going to be honest with you. it looks bad, really bad... but we can help.") and that I needed to start a frequent schedule of treatments, which was odd since I had regularly been seeing a chiropractor in so-cal. when I shared this with my prior chiropractor, he said that it sounded like a scare tactic to get me to do aggressive, frequent treatments (ie. spend lots of money) and that I should get other opinions. Sure enough, I had evaluations with two more chiropractors in the area (with free initial consult X-rays) and both said emphatically that I did not need the frequency of treatments Dr Barton had recommended. far from it. .. so I stopped going to Dr Barton. .. final slap-in-face: a few days later I get a mailer from Dr Barton containing a refer-a-friend coupon (for me to give to a friend). Dr. Eric has been treating me since 2009 and has kept me in great shape. Two pregnancies and three children later, - one single & one set of twins - he is still keeping my wellness on track. Both of my children have gone here and received excellent service. We loved the fact they could get us in when we needed to, often coming in to see if they could take us as a walk-in. It sometimes is impossible for my teen to know what she is doing. I know they prefer appointments for patients they are seeing, however, they never once made me feel badly for just stopping in. For myself, I talk to Annette about the herbs they sell and find some amazing information when I talk to her. The price on the herbs are reasonably in line with other places. I also like the fact they have apples out for us to take (although I am not as happy with the cookies that are sometimes out as a treat as they are fresh baked and yummy!). read more

I would HIGHLY recommend this office and specifically Dr. Jake. I came to here in the midst of an emergency. Background; I get crazy, debilitating headaches that have me in the emergency room at least twice a month. I've been told definitively that these headaches come from nerve compression in the neck, but never anything more specific than that. For years I've tried tons of different treatments, meds and doctors. I was in the middle of a work day when this headache came on and I was literally googling chiropractors near me. I was desperate and expecting to be charged an arm and a leg for a quick fix that I knew would only last a few days at most. I was, and am still surprised by the quality of care performed in this office. As well as the warmth and genuine compassion from everyone I interacted with. I was given real answers for the first time since I've started living with this pain. Dr Jake took X-rays and was able to pinpoint exactly where my problem was. He did give me an adjustment, but also a plan to treat my problem at its source. Instead of just giving me the same quick fix adjustment I've received from every other chiropractor I've seen (which I was asking for!), I was given honest answers about my condition and how to get on the road to true recovery.
