First impressions are everything to me. Upon walking into BASE I was greeted by a charming and charismatic employee who was working at the front desk and was helped immediately. What is there to say about BASE? The combination of Dr. Lin, Dr. Kim, and the rest of the BASE staff is a triple threat. With the Doctor's expertise and the Aide's attentive and gentle care, therapy becomes less of a chore and more of an adventure over the course of the sessions. I was rapidly impressed with the service here. A professional approach to the physical therapy treatments as well as the state of the art equipment specifically designed for people undergoing treatment are a welcome sight for anyone tired of the generic gym machines found at most clinics. I could have just joined a gym if I wanted to work out on those machines. There is space for not only for the many different machines and equipment but also plenty of room to exercise as the BASE facility has seemingly doubled in size over night! I can't wait to go back and see what else they add to somehow out-do themselves again. As an added bonus, I usually have anxiety parking anywhere on Ventura Blvd. because most places have tiny parking lots but with the massive amount of parking spaces at this location I felt at ease every time I arrived and of course there was an elevator waiting to take me to the second floor. read more

I very rarely write reviews but I need to let anyone who needs to recover from an injury should make sure they can get the best physical therapy possible....GO TO BASE TRAINING!!! I am a dance and yoga college instructor and I know enough about fitness to tell you, this place is legit. I had a knee replacement in June 2018 and tried another place first that my doctor recommended from a list of several places for physical therapy. After 5 visits, I knew I was not progressing like I could. So, I changed to Base Training and Tommy was my hero!! Dr. Tommy with his professional, caring, personalized care and his team of incredible assistants worked with me for 6 months. I am now hiking, walking up to 8 miles without stopping and bending my knee way past 90 degrees. My body feels great! This review is for all people concerned with going to Physical Therapy during the COVID 19 Pandemic. I have a slipped disc in the lumbar area of my lower back plus arthritis in my back. I have been seeing Tommy for many years for physical therapy but I was apprehensive about going out for therapy now during the lockdown. BUT I am so GLAD I did! Everything at Base Training is being done under all the rules. Everyone is wearing masks and Gloves. Everything is wiped down after every session. AND social distancing is being done as all patients are being spaced apart. I feel so much better having had my back worked on by Tommy and his staff. After not doing physical therapy for 6 weeks IT WAS GREAT to go back and start to feel my back loosen up a bit. FOR ANYONE unsure about going for Physical Therapy in these times now, I will say 100 PERCENT it helped me and I will be going back on my regular basis. Look no further for your physical therapy needs. This place is it! Knowledge of the body is at the core of their practice and everything exudes in positivity from there. The doctors and staff at BASE are experienced, kind, compassionate and are overall great people. They treat young athletes, elderly people, and everything in between, each with an age-appropriate and fitness-appropriate design/focus. I saw Dr. Kim recently for rehab after hip surgery, but he had also successfully treated me in 2013 from back surgery. I am a 40 year old active mom of an 8-year-old, a former dancer and fitness-crazed! Being injured or out-of-shape was not an option for someone like me. The team at BASE got me back into fighting shape TWICE (once for the back and once for the hip). I am now back to my regular routine, armed with the knowledge I need about my limits and the home exercises that I can do to continually strengthen my repaired areas. The facility is all brand new, modern, with clean up to date fitness equipment which makes treatment or recovery a really pleasant experience. The office staff are super friendly and helpful and I've never had to wait for the doctors to see me. In addition to Dr Lin and Dr Kim being extremely knowledgeable in what they do, they treat their patients like family, and really take the time to listen to what you need and how you're feeling. Doctor Kim and his team all provided incredible service. I went there with a semi-serious shoulder issue and ten weeks later with twice a week therapy sessions I feel 100% better. Each interaction whether on the phone, in the therapy room or workout area every staff member was both professional and friendly. The office as a whole is in impeccable shape---clean and well kept. After unsuccessfully working with two other physical therapists in town, I'm SO grateful I found BASE! I had chronic back pain resulting from some mechanical issues that arose following a hip injury. Pain medicine wasn't touching it and the other PTs in town I was seeing rushed me in and out for less than helpful 30 min appointments. Discouraged I actually flew back to my hometown in Florida to see my PT who I felt gave me immeasurably better care. Thankfully, she helped me find BASE so I could get good care that isn't a flight away. At BASE, I started working with Dr Tommy Lin who gave me a thorough evaluation followed by an extremely helpful explanation of what was going on in my body and how PT could help. In addition to being knowledgeable and strategic with my manual therapy and exercises, he was warm, compassionate, and attentive (as is everyone in the office!!). After a great two months working with him, my pain started to turn around. As I got stronger, he passed me on to Dr Adelle Smener who helped me to get back into shape with some pilates training (which is one of my favorite exercises!). It was so wonderful to be able to start getting back in the grove of my fitness routine under the guidance of a PT familiar with my injury and issues. After 4 months, I'm feeling so much better, but I'll admit I'm mildly sad my appointments are over! read more

I highly recommend BASE Physical Therapy for anyone in need. Dr. Kim has great knowledge of how the body works and what treatment would be the most helpful. After the initial evaluation and discussion of my goals and life style, he developed a treatment plan and gave suggestions of what to do at home. He used several state of the art machines and hand manipulation and addressed my issues successfully. The entire BASE staff and doctors are professional, they take the time to explain what they are doing and have a positive attitude. Also, if I arrived on-time, my wait time was no more than a few minutes. I am a 70 year old triathlete who would like to continue being active, train and compete for as long as I can. I recently carried something that was too heavy and consequently irritated my sciatic nerve which resulted in strong lower back and upper leg pain and difficulties walking and sleeping. Fortunately I was familiar with BASE from a previous positive experience and I went back there for physical therapy. I was amazed with the quick helpful results. Within a few treatments the pain eased and gradually I could return to swimming, bicycling and running. In fact, I feel optimistic that due to the BASE treatment, I will be able to complete in my first race this year in about a month from now. I have had back problems for 33 years and have gone to many physical therapy places over the years and learned what makes a good physical therapy place and what does not. YES IT IS BEAUTIFUL and the receptionists are over the top in friendliness. Beauty is only on the surface only. After the physical therapist sees you; you are handed off to an assistant. They know nothing about the body and do not have enough knowledge of the exercises. So you are run thru the mill on exercises and very easily if you do not do them correctly you can hurt yourself all over again. Knowledge is CORE IN ALL PARTS OF EXERCISE. You need to go to a place who can tell you with knowledge about the exercise; when to breath (exhale and inhale) and most of all how to use your CORE. If you do not use your CORE even getting up from the table the correct way you are possibly hurting yourself. Make sure you are in good hands once the physical therapist is not working with you. read more

Dr. Kim is a godsend and he actually spends time with you versus pawning the client directly to a novice PT assistant with a plan they try and implement. Private rooms and a great workout floor, that winds around so its not like youre sitting right next to another client or facing them closely. More importantly is Dr. Kim's thorough eval (and I've been to my fair share of local pt places/and afar) is the key I think, many places don't do this well. Dr. Kim's knowledge of different ideas and tools that may help and he has available readily in his office is phenomenal. I'm never going anywhere else for PT in the west valley. I have no idea what I was thinking. I am so greatful even for the minimal amount of painful times I have been eduring since I started with Dr Kim. I'm shocked based on other places and exp. The other 5 star reviews mimic my experience at Base. The front office staff is beyond wonderful. No matter how bad you may feel coming in you immediately feel better being greeted with their exuberance, smiles and care. And yes from the very beginning they know your name and always have something lovely to say to you. Energetically this already starts the healing process! And the office itself has great Feng Shui. It is bright and light and beautiful. The Physical Therapist I have been working with is Jack Chan. He is a knowledgable, nurturing, caring and also has a wonderful vibe. When I first came I was in a great deal of pain and discomfort and sitting and driving and even standing sometimes was difficult for me. I was taking constant muscle relaxers as well as pain pills when needed. Through the therapy and treatments I was able to stop the meds which I was so grateful for. Because of the physical limitation I was experiencing Jack started me off in a way that gradually increased my mobility, core strength and comfort level. I could barely do the smallest of pelvic tilts at first because of the pain and discomfort. I eventually am able to do planks for a minute at a time as my core strength has increased. The other varied exercises that got added on allowed me to gain confidence that I was getting better and better. Eventually Jack would need to work with another client during part of the session and I would work with an aid . But he was checking in and supervising to make sure all was going well. My preference would be to be able to work with him for the whole session but I understand that it wasn't always possible. I love Base and would highly recommend it to anyone in need of PT. read more

I feel so lucky that my doctor had me go to BASE Training and Physical Therapy. Having been to others, I am definitely aware how outstanding they are. Working with Sung and his team feels just right. There's no pressure and lots of positive encouragement and reinforcement. If it's difficult to get an appointment, it's worth the wait. I highly recommend Tommy Lin and his staff at BASE Training and Physical Therapy. The staff are kind and welcoming! I suffer from headaches, TMJ pain and fibromyalgia. In the past I would routinely receive Trigger Point Injections with steroids at least three times per year in addition to physical therapy. Since treating with Tommy at BASE, I have not needed Trigger Point Injections. BASE offers cutting edge treatments and hands on therapy. Best Physical Therapy I've ever had is with Jack Chan (yes, but not that Jackie Chan) here at Base Training. After back surgery he started with easy exercises that began to strengthen and loosen muscles that had been compromised for years. He adjusts for strain, knows exactly what needs to be targeted and if I have issues, he can tell which muscles are having problems then isolates and adjusts. It has really been as equally important as the surgery itself. He understands the concerns of getting back on your feet and is tremendously supportive.
