The place it tiny but the hosts and staff were quick to cleanup and accommodate more guests. They do have outdoor seating but was unusable due to rains. They do have parking right outside. I really enjoyed my meal here and had a good experience from start to finish. All of the staff was very friendly. They have the "Please wait to be seated" sign, but they let me choose where I wanted to sit, and when I realized that the table I chose outside was putting me right in the hot sun, they were cool with me moving inside. I had "Lyndsay's plant pizza" (the cheeseless vegan pizza) and a tiramisu. The veggie pizza was loaded with toppings and the vegetables they chose worked harmoniously together, except the kale tasted a little raw. I didn't miss the cheese. I cannot overstate how good the crust was! There were a few spots with a bit too much char, but even with that, the texture of this crust was heavenly. The tiramisu was also fantastic. It was served as two jumbo ladyfingers doused in cream. Again, textures here were great - the ladyfingers were soft but not soggy, and the cream was velvety smooth. The bitter coffee in the ladyfingers perfectly complemented and balanced out the sweet cream topping. I was a little surprised by the high prices. I ended up spending about $50 for a meal for one after tip! Kind of a small place, but the laid back atmosphere felt homely. It would be nice if they had real glasses for water and a plate for the tiramisu instead of paper. Not quite a 5 star, but a very enthusiastic 4 stars from me. Such a shame this place can't figure it out...twice in the last month I've been here. The first visit was in October and they were out of half their menu. Last night was the second visit. The host tells us to come back in one hour for the pizza. Questioned the host if they would call when it was ready and was assured that it was just better to 'come back in 1 hour'. So, 60 minutes pass and what's the verdict at 8pm? 'Sorry, we ran out of pizza dough and have nothing for you. We'd say come back tomorrow but we might not have dough by then.' Then was told that they would 'send a gift card for the inconvenience via email' but they must have ran out of those as well because they are open today and what do you know? Crickets... Thought I learned my lesson last month going to dine in at this place so tried my luck at ordering take away - seems as though if you attempt this method you'll end up hungry and misled. My husband and I tried Basic Goodness Pizzeria on our last day in Tofino and it unfortunately was not a hit. The toppings slid right off the pizza and the dough was soft and floppy. The crust was crispy, and as to be expected with wood fired pizza. We chose the Margherita and added the prosciutto, arugula and parmigiano. You couldn't really taste any of the basil, but flavor otherwise was pretty good. Service was quick. The restaurant is nicely decorated and clean. You enter the building and are immediately struck by two distinct characteristics. The first is a complicated sensory experience presented by the contrasting elements of a high school cafeteria-like aesthetic, accented by the sopping privilege of the "pizzerias" clientele. You wonder for a moment about how much this event is going to cost in both patience and currency until you notice the box of low-end French table wine. A wave of relief and confusion washes over you. "French wine in an Italian Pizzeria? Oh well, at least I won't need to re-mortgage the house to have a drink and a meal here." The second notable item abruptly approaches in the form of pleasant and helpful staff. Briskly you are shown to a seat and presented with a menu. If you aren't wearing a six hundred dollar Gortex technical jacket, designed for activities such as ice climbing and traversing glaciers, then your heart sinks as you begin to flip through the menu. You will spend twenty dollars at bare minimum for cooked dough topped with only a few vegetables. Cheese is, obviously, extra. You avoid the drink section altogether as you are sure that a "glass" of the aforementioned French red will surely be small and overpriced. You order. In my case, a 4 cheese pizza, which of course, comes to you uncut. The mind again drifts, trying to understand why this might be? "Why not cut the pizza for your customers? You supply them with fork and knife. Presumably, these items are not simply for display and they will be using them to cut the pie. Why not do it for them? Perhaps," you decide, "it's simply more hip to have to cut your own pizza." Onward to the meal. Delicious. Excellent. Nothing negative to say regarding the quality of the food. Then the bill. For a small-sized, cheese-only, uncut pizza, with tip, no appetizer, and only water to drink, after the provincial taxes have been calculated and you have applied a standard gratuity, you will pay 30 dollars. 30 dollars to remain not exactly full... at a Pizzarea... As your eyes scan the bill, looking for the calculation error you assume must be there, you see something irregular. Pretention, presumption, hubris, and audacity. All the hallmarks of the white privileged class for whom the establishment belongs, and who saturate this area of the province. The words "This is not your land tax" read across your receipt. 1%. A forced donation no doubt. A display of one's politics and the very definition of tokenism. For without question, the majority of the local indigenous population could not possibly hope to eat at such a prohibitive establishment. If you are interested in a delicious meal at a ridiculous emotional and financial price, this place might be just what you're after. We walked up and down the street trying to find food reasonably priced. We are here for a couple of days and have no kitchen where we are staying. So paying 30+ a plate for every meal is not reasonable. We happened upon this small little pizzeria and decided to try it. We were seated at the bar. It was a prime spot! We were able to watch all the action. The menu had a picture of a young handsome man eating pizza. It was obviously the man tossing the pizza in the back. It was mesmerizing watching him at his craft. The service was very fast and friendly. We ordered meatballs to start. It came out very fast. There were 3 meatballs and they were amazing! Everything was obviously homemade. We tore up the basil and sprinkled it across. They gave us extra bread to sop up the rest of the very tasty and fresh sauce. We shared a pizza. We got one with mushrooms. It took a little bit of time. The cook thanked us for being so patient (even though we were having a great time and didn't even notice!) the pizza was soooooooo good. It was thin crust with not a ton of toppings, but damn. Everything about it was perfect. The crust was soft and crunchy and the mushrooms were a great balance of flavor. We wanted to stuff it all in our face, but left two pieces and still felt full. They also have a fun selection of "island" local beer and wine. Our last meal in beautiful Tofino was at the mom and pop pizzeria next to the famous Wolf In The Fog. We walked in to simple decor, a wood-fired oven, and the smell of Italy. The name of the shop really says it all. As far as pizza goes, they've really hit the spot. But what made BGP stand out among my numerous pizza shop experiences was their true neighbourly service. The owners Marco and Heather prepare their dough every morning, Marco takes extra time to also prepare the menu's only dessert: Tiramisu (which is to die for). At the end of our meal, Heather personally thanked us for dining with her that evening, but really, she and Marco were the only ones to be thanked. read more

Oh my goodness! Amazing pizza. Thin crust and still full of flavor. The service was also great. I'll try not to repeat what my wife mentioned but will reiterate that they did run out of dough and had to turn a few people away after we were seated, so get there early as you do not want to miss out on their pie. I also had an espresso for a little pick me up and while that seems like an odd pairing, it worked and would do it again. I wish we had room for dessert but that will have to wait until next time. Grabbing a pizza to go and a few beers from Tofino brewing would be a perfect picnic. Watch the sunset from the beaches and you have yourself a great evening in this beautiful area. read more
