    Black rock sacher cake

"Gretchen, stop trying to make FETCH happen, it is not going to happen!" - Regina George I mean it isn't horrible, and my three stars are pretty generous. To be petty i'll give 2.9 stars (lol) After driving for over four hours from Nanaimo to Ucluelet and getting car sick on the way over, we were looking for some simple food. This restaurant is pretty pricey for the amount of food they give. Honestly not worth it. Slow service and wait time for food, considering the amount of people in the restaurant, it should've been out much quicker. I ordered the Wild Mushroom Risotto. It was extremely bland and had no taste other than the cheese that was grated on top. I had to down it in salt and pepper and even then it was tasteless. My guess is that they didn't season the rice. Me and my dad eventually switched plates because he is used to eating plain congee everyday and the risotto tasted exactly like that so he thought it was okay. My dad ordered the Duck a l'Orange. It came with a polenta cake and greens. It was really good and I was going to order that before but the menu described the dish as dijon mustard tasting and I don't like mustard so I didn't get it. The duck was cooked nicely and the sauce was sweet. The polenta cake was crispy and was great with the duck. My little brother got the mini cheeseburgers from the kids menu. For him it was great and he finished the whole plate which is unusual for him because he's picky on what he eats and this was probably the first time i've ever seen him finish two sliders and a big plate of fries on his own. My mom got the scallops and the oysters. Scallops were okay, some weren't cooked evenly. I didn't try the oysters but my mom and my dad didn't like them and they weren't fresh. For dessert my brother had vanilla ice cream that came with his kids meal and I ordered the Black Rock Sacher Cake which is a dense chocolate cake with apricot and strawberries. Honestly the cake was basically a chocolate cake because i didn't taste any apricot layered in between the layers. Tasted good, but afterwards I felt a little sick from eating it. Honestly, wasn't worth it, but we didn't have anywhere else to eat because we are staying at the hotel. You should save your money and go into the town where there are probably better restaurants for half the price.

Fabulous sunset dinner Called for a reservation an hour before and they could not have been more accommodating. When we arrived I dropped my wife off at the front door of the Resort and went to park the car. By the time I made it to the lobby the maitre had seated her and come out to the front door where he introduced himself and then escorted me thru the lobby, into the restaurant and to our table which had a beautiful view. I knew we were in for a special experience. Our waitress, Seka, was prompt and explained the specials. I just had to try the ribeye topped with steamed barnacles, yes barnacles!!! The steak was cooked perfectly and I cut it with my fork. The barnacles were tender, and as expected full flavored. I would order them again. The halibut my wife ordered was cooked to perfection and served on a bed of the best sautéed mushrooms we had ever tasted. Not a pairing I would ever pick, but it worked beautifully. We shared an order of creamed spinach which was very good and plenty for two people. Overall the best dinner in a long, long time!!!

Make reservations ahead of time for dinner!! Food is great, large portions and great views so request a table at the window. Restaurant is small with limited tables so dinner reservations fill up quickly. Service is extremely slow so plan on being there for at least 1.5 hrs. A salmon plate and halibut plate took 65 min to be served. Spent $100 for a coke, one apetizer and 2 fish plates so it's definitely pricey but worth it.

Great and calm view to enjoy with your meal.

My veggie eggs benny was delicious. My partner had the heartwood breakfast subbed egg for bacon. We were both happy with our orders. My only note was that the smashbrowns needed more flavour I'm not a ketchup person... But needed it desperately for the smashbrowns. We would definitely go back. The food was fresh and fast. We came here almost right at opening for brunch and so glad we did. It started to fill up as soon as we were finishing up. Ukee fried chicken and French toast: 5/5 delicious, incredibly fresh. Perfectly balanced with sweet and salty. Came with fresh fruit to lighten up the dish. Heartwood breakfast: 4.5/5 again it came out quick and fresh. Loved that it came with fruit. I wished the potatoes were a bit more smashed so it would be crispier but other than that it was very flavorful. I also need to add that their buttered toast was surprisingly good. I'm not sure what they do differently with their toast, but it's good! Would definitely come back the next time we're in town.

Fortunately, they have a patio so we were able to dine 'in' despite COVID restrictions. We started with their pan seared prawns in a white wine garlic sauce. These were delicious and very well priced- we got 10 large sized prawns and a slice of garlic toast for $14.50. For our entrees we ordered a full rack of ribs and the fish and chips to share between the two of us. While the ribs were very flavourful, smothered in a delicious barbecue sauce, unfortunately they were not very hot. The Cesar salad side was perfection- even had anchovies which you don't see very often. The fish and chips were nearly perfect- the batter on the fish was super crispy and the fish itself was the texture it should be- I do think the batter could use some seasoning though. The fries were perfectly seasoned and my husband loved the coleslaw which is saying something because he generally does not ever like coleslaw. For our drinks, we had the floathouse hard lemonade which was super tasty- we each ordered two. Service was mediocre. We had to flag down our Waitress or another one whenever we needed something. But overall, the food and cocktails are worth going back for.

We were confused. Our organizer's assistant had set this up. I was just along for the ride. What a ride it turned out to be. The reason they don't do tables of 8 became obvious when we realized that this was a 2 star Michelin star restaurant that didn't have the stars yet. Pretty hard to get the folks at Michelin to wander into Uculet BC. Trust me when I say - it doesn't matter if they've been anointed by the rubber tire makers, they qualify in any event. They graciously accommodated our slightly diminished group of 7 at one cobbled together table. This is a world class dining room entirely contained within the floor plate of a 20th century home. It likely holds about 20 people per seating. The kitchen pumps out tasty pieces of art. The artists studio is naturally designed for intimacy, not rambunctious conference attendees. They bent the rules and pushed the limits of the kitchen to ensure we all got to experience the service as designed. They pulled it off. The photos below give you a glimpse into the menu. It clearly ebbs and flows with the seasons, and they were also able to accommodate needed dietary restrictions. Claire, our lovely server, took the time to ask each of our names, and then used them correctly throughout the evening. We were no longer strangers, we were guests in this former home. It happened to be Claire's last night before she left on a personal hiatus. I hope they can find someone as lovely to replace her. The food was tasty and beautiful. The wine pairings were sublime (with one slight miss) and the chef's amuse bouche and little delights were woven into the experience in a way that surprised and delighted us throughout. If you enjoy world class, and you find yourself in Tofino or Uculet - make the effort and head over to Pluvio. 4.9/5

The restaurant was actually larger than I expected. They had loads of bench-style tables and seats. There was a run-down arcade in there as well with some claw machines that looked like the candy prizes had been in there since the 90's... We looked around for the bowling alley that was supposedly there but found out that it was taken out. Service was friendly and relatively attentive. I had my first poutine of the trip. It ended up being saltier than I had hoped. I ordered the Korean Beef Noodle Bowl. Not that I needed more food, but for the price it was, I expected that there would be more food. The flavor was okay. Nothing to write home about. As I got to the bottom of the bowl, I found a pool of oil just sitting there, being absorbed by the few pieces of my leftover sad noodles. It was a LOT of oil... I wanted the bowl because it had a lot of veggies alongside the beef, so I at least got that. It's nice that it's open late for visitors to dine in and has a wide variety of foods, but none of our party's food stood out and wow'ed us, so... it was fine. Again, they were lovely, friendly people, so if you're looking for someplace welcoming to get fed in Ucluelet, I recommend coming here.
