Well, that was disappointing. I mean, not as disappointing as not being born looking like Angelina…read moreJolie and into incredible wealth, or anything like that, but it wasn't too crash hot. We had always wanted to try this place, as it's local, looks clean and smart, has been there for over 30 years, and it's seafood! What's not to love? Well, quite a bit, actually. It started off well, I'll give it that. The Sydney Rock Oysters were obviously freshly dry shucked, and were absolutely top notch. I didn't even mind having to spit out a bit of shell. Mal's Calamari was also top quality seafood. Beautiful, tiny things, lightly battered, but a tad on the floury side, and lacking seasoning. Not a bad start, and we were excited about our mains..Well, we were, till we got them. I had ordered prawns, which were served like you would expect garlic prawns at a Tapas bar, sort of kind of, except they were served in a bloody great big cast iron pan, in half a litre of oil. Gaaahhh!! They were all different sizes, and ranged from rubber bullets to OK on the cooking. Completely underwhelming. Mal ordered the John Dory, which was a bit dry, and was served with seasonal vegetables. He said the potatoes were greasy and bland though, and that everything on his plate needed a bit of love (Kind of ironic, as it was a Valentines Day menu.) Oh well, we had a bit of a laugh, and hoped dessert would redeem them a bit...What lovely, hopeful things we are! Siiiiigh. The vanilla panacotta was beautifully set, except, it was Coffee panacotta, not vanilla and I am not a fan of coffee desserts. Mal had Mango with Vanilla Bean Gelato, except there was no vanilla bean in it, and the mango was kind of so so. Upsides? The staff are friendly, and the wine by the glass is in generous serving sizes, and the company, of course, was excellent! I thought the whole experience was very average, and at $80.00 a head, far from good value. Just as well we still plan to get laid anyway, and were not counting on the meal to work it for us!

I've driven past La Perla several times over the last 5 years but I hadn't come in as there's…read morealways one person that doesn't like seafood or the odd vegetarian in my family. When I saw this big sign saying, they now serve wood fired pizzas - I thought it was a good time to check it out. Only they didn't serve wood fired pizzas when I got there. Whaaat? (I thought to myself). The mains come out. There are a few fish mains that were ordered by the non-vegetarians including the boneless flat head fish ($34) and the John Dory Fillets ($38). The food is fine but not amazing. It's on par with the local fish and chip shop but just double the prices. The prices are too much for the food. The food is average. I wasn't happy about the false advertising about the pizzas. With it's sleeker looking shop front - I would have expected more.
