My three sons and husband ate the "real" burgers along with the mix fries and assorted sauces- the truffle sauce was to die for! The patty comes out as something that reminds me less of a burger and more as meatloaf. And to be clear, it's OK that Europe hasn't mastered the burger. I don't need it to. But others wanted to go here as a lunch near my client's office, so I was pleasantly surprised with the burger. Specifically - very flavorful beef, the right "density" so it didn't feel like meatloaf, a good grilled flavor, juicy without being overly greasy. Just a solid burger patty, I'd be happy with this in the US, no question. Lots of creative toppings, and nice hot crispy fries. I'm serious, this is a place I would visit with some regularity if it was near my house in Illinois. But it's in a small town on the Swedish North Sea coast. Globalization, I tell you.

Outside, by the parking lot, we found Västerports Kök. I got the feeling this place just recently had opened. Outside there were lots of tables, however we chose to sit inside because it was a windy day. Inside there was lots of people. It kind of felt like all the citizens of Varberg had teamed up for lunch. Strangely - it didn't feel crowded at all.... The nice cafeteria had several long tables and some smaller, so we sat down by a long one with some nice people. The lunch menu consisted of 5-6 different meals to chose from for 95 SEK. We both had zucchini burgers with tomato sauce. Included was also salad from a huge salad bar, bread, soup and coffee. The salad bar had lots of different mixed salads with beans, chickpeas, sweetcorn etc. Besides lunch menu, there were also several other dishes. A very good meal! Loved the zucchini burgers!! Most Circle K's keep the quality surprisingly high when it comes to gas and fast food. And this one was a good one as well. After filling up the gas tank we took a seat outside on the lawn, which might not be the most romantic setting, but was surprisingly quiet and good for a quick bite. We had some Hot Dogs sausages with fries and a Burger. The Burger was pretty good - fair priced as well. Hot Dog was fine, the only bad thing were the pretty soft/soggy fries. But all fair priced, so no complaints there. All in all a good spot to fill up on gas and a quick bite.
