Great people, fantastic view from the porch overlooking the 9th and 18th greens. Good food at reasonable prices.

Ravines Golf Course - Basic and predictable and boring for most of the holes

Ravines Golf Course

Overall, average and acceptable given the declining options in public golf these days. Not terrible…read morebut not great. On course the fairway and green conditions are above average condition. The rough is very forgiving except where overgrown into prairie areas. Lots of Oscar Bravo on the course edges (fields and forests and roads) and a fair amount of water hazards. There are some houses on the front nine, most set far enough back to not be intrusive; however spray and pray hitters could easily find your shot in a back yard. Tee boxes are below average and many are undersized. The carts were loud and lethargic gas guzzlers with the gps units removed. Bring your app or gps unit, the only on course yardage markers are 200 and 150 stripes on the cart paths. Booking was easy with Club Caddie login. The clubhouse smells bad, somewhere between stale urinal and sewer gas. I would play here again but it won't be a go-to destination. The price seems fair at $47 weekend with cart. Cheaper than Purdue Ackerman-Allen or Coyote Crossing, but those are both better courses and better facilities.

Basic golf course, minimalist design, limited geography or variation for majority of course, priced…read moreabout three holes have enjoyable challenging space but the rest is the same Indiana flatland annoying strung along housing which seems extremely risky. I'm not a fan of putting windows and car roofs to unexcused insurance claims but for the professionals perhaps it is no matter. I tagged along with a large group Saturday morning to do all 18. We couldn't get over the very slow carts that didn't have any energy unless flooring the gas. Makes for a difficult and often jerky ride, this is not how superior courses should be. I noticed some enjoyed the food but as with most beverages are way too limited. Pricing is as expected for an average green. I am not even a casual golfer but am aware of many better options in the area. Ravines seems to be the budget and old fashioned option best for slower going.

We were looking for a new place to eat, and we read that there was a restaurant here. When we got…read morethere, we were informed the restaurant had closed 3 years ago, but the former president of the country club, Al Harker, gave us suggestions of other nearby restaurants. Then, he chatted us up and suggested we try a free 18 holes of golf and think about joining the country club. Mr. Harker is a great pitchman. We took him up on his offer and came the next weekend and played 18 holes. We were sold by the 5th hole. The first few holes are gorgeous, as they are on a peninsula surrounded by Lake Shafer and expensive homes. The last 9 holes are long, across the street and also fun to play. This is the nicest golf course in Monticello, and I imagine in and around this area. The membership for people under 40 is only $450.00. When you play, it's only $8 for 9 holes or $16.00 for 18 holes with a golf cart. When the kids at the clubhouse see your car approach, they bring a golf cart to you. Now that's service. The PGA pro, Jim, runs the golf shop and gives lessons. He's also very, very nice. The bartender, Angel, is friendly and will tell you lots of interesting things going on in and around town. We've had our vacation home for 3.5 years, and sadly, we've found the locals in Monticello to be less than friendly, and our neighbors have got to be the most suspicious, unfriendly folks around, but the members at this country club are very welcoming and wave when they see you. The minus one star is for the fact that the country club has no permanent restaurant. The Riverside Restaurant grills from Wednesday to Saturday from 11:00 am to 2:00 p.m, and the country clubs offers hot dogs, brats and some fried appetizers. The shop sells soda, candy bars, jerky and potato chips. My biggest gripe though is how gross the bathrooms on the course are. No one has ever cleaned them in years so they are completely unusable, especially for women.

My husband and I went over the July 2026 holiday on a Thursday night for dinner. We were really…read morelooking forward to having dinner at the Country Club since it was our anniversary and we had never been to the Country Club. The waitress was average, could have been better, took a little longer then we thought to bring us our drinks ( which mine was completely wrong) and appetizers. The busboy on the other hand was horrible. He came out with our food ( which took about an hour) and ended up giving it to the wrong table. My husband tried to tell him that was our food but he completely ignored my husband and took part of our meal back to the kitchen. At this point we decided not to wait another hour for our dinner, paid for what we actually received and decided we will never return. If you are looking for a relaxing dinner without any hiccups and not too long of a wait I wouldn't recommend this place. A few places I would recommend, Oak & Barrel, Riverside Restaurant & Lounge and Anglers Restaurant, we have never had an issue.
