Bad experience. They just cancelled on me because I get terse with a woman on the phone after they called me for the third time to ask me to tell them where to park their truck. Clearly parking is a source of stress for them given they asked me about it twice in the booking process, during which I TOLD THEM TO PARK IN OUR DRIVEWAY and they clarified via response that parking tickets are passed through to customer. So they were protected on this. Then they showed up 45 minutes late this morning. I reiterated for them to park in driveway. They called back to ask where to park. I told them in the driveway or on the street, doesn't matter, just do your "f'ing" job and find a parking spot, stop calling me about it. They clarified a ticket would be passed through to me. I said fine. Hung up. Then get an email from owner saying they cancelled. Soft. Very soft. Do you your job. I gave you a parking spot in my bloody driveway and said I'd pay for any ticket. You were also covered via your disclaimer. Grow up. read more

I am being questioned about my request for some warranty work that includes bubbling along the entire bottom of the tub after 4 years. The warranty is 5 years and I am having a hard time getting the company to honor the warranty. The entire bottom of the tub was smooth when it was completed but now it has huge patches of srough bubbles. I didn't realize it would be so hard to get my warranty honored. ***update: turns out you aren't supposed to use a tub mat unless you remove it every day to dry. I didn't know that even though it was written in fine print. It would have been nice if it was more clearly stated than in the fine print on the back of the receipt! So I will live with the rough tub floor because the warranty will not cover it and I don't want to pay to have it completely re-coated*** read more

Though I am not able to give the actual resurfacing of my sink five stars, I can definitely recommend the company. (Eh, my sink is SO old, like 1906, I was happy to have it improved at all.) The people at BAC are very congenial, the workers on time and very professional. The fellow who did the job for me came back the next day to make sure that everything was perfectly sealed and looking pristine. I read all the reviews prior to hiring Bay Area Coatings and, with that said, called and spoke with John who was the "closer" for me. He answered all of my questions, was very professional and addressed any concerns. Jesus came over to do the bathroom (tub, tile around it and floor tile). He was wonderful - professional, courteous, cleaned up after himself (down to taking a garbage bag with him), and communicative as to when he'd return to touch up (which he showed up when he said). I'm very impressed with the overall "new" bathroom and plan on using them again for my other bathroom. I highly recommend them. read more

Had my kitchen sink recoated in May 2010. In February 2011 I noticed areas that were chipping away. Contacted David over the phone, email and voice mail to come and look at the sink because my warranty would expire in May 2011. He continues to avoid me and any negative problems. Has promised to come here but never shows. Not happy with customer service and have reported him to Better Business Bureau. April 2011-Update David returned my calls and scheduled a day to relook at the kitchen sink. It's then that he explained that he was out of town for personal reasons. He noticed that the sink needed to be touched up but he offered instead to redo the entire sink at no charge. The sink looks brand new and I'm very happy. read more

We called this company to have them re coat the tile floor,tub, and the tub surround on our parents home we will be renting out. The tile was an out dated green, and a couple of tiles were cracked, the tub was the same color surrounded by yellow tile...yuck! We asked for clean white, and they did an amazing job! They came out when promised, it took 3 days, and voila, the bathroom looks brand new! You cannot see where the tiles were cracked and no one could guess this was a coating! Dear Mr Ramos: Is this the copy and paste script that your franchise asks you to e mail and post when someone it's unhappy about your work? Obviously you not only lack the skills to do the job but you also lacked proficiency with your bookkeeping . When I tried to complaint to your office, it turned out you are a belong to a franchise who was not about to take any responsibility for this incident. A year ago it crossed my mind to take you to court but I wasn't even able to find any true address to serve you the court paper work. In addition, I was threaten by your franchise that if I didn't paid the $450.00 for the "job" that you were going to put a mechanic's lean on my house. So I immediately sent you a check for the $450 which you cashed right away. Please advise me if you need a copy of the check. Mr Ramos, I knew that you were the owner the moment you drop your poorly trained staff to my house to do the job. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I scheduled for my bathtub to be resurfaced, they did a good job and told me it was a 2 day process and would be back the next morning. After waiting for them over an hour, I called and they said that the project was done and to wait till the end of the day to use the shower. After using the shower, I realized that they had installed the lever on the drain incorrectly and the shower wasn't draining. I called and they said that they would send somebody out the next morning. Nobody called or showed up! I had to follow up and they told me they forgot and wouldn't be able to come for a few days. I called in a few days and then they had to reschedule- 5 days later!! When the guy did come out, he told me it was broken and there was nothing he could do!! He had broken it in the first place! I called the owner David and he told him to buy the part and fix it, which he did with hesitation. I called David after it was fixed and explained the crappy customer service that was provided by his company and that I would like some sort of refund for my inconvience. He didn't care- and said that he doesn't care about yelp reviews or customer references. This guy has no idea of how to run a business!!! Stay away! I would not recommend this company. I had a bad experience. When they were working on my bathtub, they turned the water off, and never turned back on. I could not figure out how to turn it back on, so I called their office. The person on the phone confirmed that they did turn it off, but now it was my problem to deal with it. I asked multiple times that they came back to fix the problem, and she kept saying that it is not their responsibility. In the end, she said that i had to put in a written request to the owner. Apparently he would not even consider my phone request. I did write him to him, and he ever replied. I would avoid working with this company. read more

I didn't know there was an option other than replacing a completely yucky tub until we chanced upon Bay Area Coatings - Bathtub & Tile Refinishing and they made a pretty stained bath look brand new. We were remodeling a condo before putting it on the market and needed to seriously upgrade the bathroom. We had Bay Area Coatings (owned by David Ramos) come in and fix the tub. Afterwards, our contractor put a ladder in the tub to paint and it caused the refinishing work to chip. Although he didn't have to, David sent his guy back out to touch up the flaws without additional cost. read more

Used Bay Area Coatings for a tub recently that had two chips. I received a call the morning of the appt telling me that my service person would be about four hours late. Ok, not a problem, but not a good start. Once he got there, he went straight to work prepping the tub area, filling in the chips, and then resurfacing the tub. The fumes from the spray(acrylic?) paint can be overwhelming at times, but that's why he brings a fan with funnel to suck out all the air to the outside. The entire process takes half a day, then you let it dry over night, and the service person comes back the next day to take care of the final touches. Overall, the tub looks shiny and new. You cannot tell where the two chips were and I'm satisfied with the job. I'm curious how long the shine will stay for. If it still looks like this in 3 years, I would bump my star rating up to four. The 5-year "warranty" is not formally documented, but I trust the owner will uphold his promise if anything goes grossly wrong. read more

Bay Area Coatings was a great call for updating our 1985 condo. They refinished our kitchen countertop tile, kitchen sink, shower tiles and shower floor pan - it made a HUGE difference, made everything look clean & modern. Our kitchen tiles looked out of date (cream with black grout) and after the refinishing they are a great all-over almond color with no black grout showing. The shower pan was stained, and the shower tiles were old-fashioned-looking (gold flecks) with stained grout - they refinished to a beautiful solid white all over. So much more cost-effective than re-tiling or getting a new sink, etc. The refinished coating is not as tough as tile or the original porcelain would be, so just be a little more gentle with them (don't cut with a knife directly on the tile, don't throw a heavy skillet into the sink, for instance). But you can't beat the look or the price, so it's a small price to pay. David & team are very professional - in & out in just a day or two, and I felt totally comfortable having them in the house while we were out. They locked the door, didn't let the cat out, and cleaned up - couldn't ask for more. read more

I have never yelped before. But I am now, for the first time in my life. NEVER EVER use this company. They left my place in disarray, and when I contacted the owner about it he essentially told me I was lying! I have never experienced this level of NON-customer service before in my life. They fixed my bathtub, but in the process they broke my toilet, messed up my BED, left doritos on the carpet, threw my towel on the floor, left the light on, and threw my bathroom mat in the living room. When I contacted the owner, David Ramos, in a very reasonable manner, to ask him to re-train his employees in how to leave a house, I got no reply, and then an incredibly rude reply, telling me it was not true. No apology, and an accusation instead! RUN from this company unless you want your place messed up and to be called a liar! Wow. Just wow! read more

You get what you pay for. I paid a cheap price, and I got a very poor job. It's really my fault, as I should have read Yelp first and/or asked for references. I think their specialty is really 'refreshing' apartments and cheaper / more modest homes. I have had my re-coating job for less than one year and am already considering redoing, or replacing with new. My experience with Bay Area Coatings was a waste of money and time. I've learned my lesson- get other estimates, referrals, and ensure you vet the contractor before signing the dotted line. read more

He did not push the extra work on me. The tub looks completely new (it has been about 5 months and it still looks perfect). After getting a quote over the phone I went ahead and scheduled an appointment to have two bathroom sinks refinished. The next day I got a call from the office manager(?) telling me that there was a "misunderstanding" and the price would almost be double...........not pleased. We have a great old cast iron tub that had some chips and glue residue from a previously installed sliding shower door and we didn't want to get rid of it so we contacted David to get info on reglazing. We had never done anything like this before and had a million questions. David and his team were kind enough to answer all our questions and then some! The quote was quick to receive and we were able to get an appointment within the week. They were scheduled to arrive between 9-9:30 and work for approximately 4-6 hours. They arrived at 9 and were done by 1. There was no indication they had even been in our home except the smell from the glazing which they had thoroughly warned us about. This review is a little belated. It pertains to the work done by the owner,David Ramos,in Jan. Of 2009.we were going thru extensive renovation of our House, built circa 1909 in the Rockridge dist. of Oakland, and it was taking us years to get to the point where we could have our bathtub refinished and the horrible shower door removed over the tub,and some new tile work done in our shower. All I can say is that David did a beautiful job,did all the work himself,was very professional in all aspects,and gave us good instructions on how to maintain the work he did for us. We paid attention to everything he told us to do,and as of right now,going on 7 yrs later,it looks like the job was only done yesterday. David really does know what he is doing,and he subsequently was able to give us advise on how to deal with some lime/rust issues at the base of a toilet downstairs that we subsequently had. The reason this review is so late,is because we only got an I-Pad a few months ago. I would recommend David's workmanship to anyone. read more
