I brought two bikes to the Pasadena location where are you are you loverover the past few months and had two very different experiences. The first bike (a road bike from 2005 that had never been professionally serviced) was repaired without prior authorization of the final total. I did not receive a call reviewing the estimate before the work was completed. However, the mechanical work itself was excellent. The bike now rides like new, and I have no complaints about the quality of the repair. $375. The second bike was a full-suspension mountain bike that I brought in primarily to diagnose rear suspension play. After the first repair experience, I made it clear that I wanted to be contacted before any major charges were made. I later received documentation showing over $500 in recommended parts before a clear authorization conversation had taken place. After discussion, the shop acknowledged the communication issue. Shortly afterward, I was informed that the carbon frame had a structural issue. I was sent a brief video and told that replacement would be required for best performance. I purchased a new frame and asked the shop to transfer the components. The entire process took approximately three months. The shop agreed to keep labor within the previously discussed range, which I appreciated. However, when the bike was returned, it had not been fully tuned. Cable routing needed correction, brakes required alignment, and shifting required a great deal of adjustment. I completed the final tuning myself. In summary: The shop is capable of good mechanical work. My primary concern throughout the process was communication and follow-through -- specifically clarity around authorization, cost transparency, and final tuning before pickup. read more

It's better to go to Trek than this place. At first glance their prices seem to be lower than Trek bicycles but the amount of repairs to be done on the bike is not worth it. I bought a bike last Summer and in less than a year it started getting gear failures and other issues that you do not get even in a $100 bike from Walmart. I bought my bike for $400 and I fixed it with them for $374. They told me the repairs would br close to $150 but it was another couple of 100 dollars. read more

Looking for a new bike? This is the bike shop to definitely stop by at and check out. I was on the market for a new Tri Bike when a friend of mine recommended I check out Bay Area Schwinn. I was specifically looking into purchasing a Cervélo triathlon bike. This bike shop is one of 7 Bike shops in the entire Houston area that is an authorized Cervélo vendor. The space isn't very big but it fits just enough bikes to give you a good selection of bikes to choose from. They carry a good amount of bike accessories and even clothing to go for your rides. I'm not the tallest guy in the crowd, many times this can be an inconvenience. Shopping for a new bike is one of those inconveniences because most bike shops don't tend to carry bike sizes fit for my height on a regular basis. I was lucky enough to see a Cervélo in the shop that was just the exact size I needed but unfortunately it was already sold. The employee at the shop was kind enough to let me ride that bike for a few minutes just to make sure that was the size I needed. And it was. One other thing that attracted me to this bike shop is the fact that they purchase used bikes in case you're looking to sell. I had a Triathlon that was a little over a week away and I really wanted to have this bike before my race. I spoke with the owner of the store and he offered to have a Cervélo overnighted for me for an extra shipping fee. Just to clarify, overnight doesn't actually mean it will be here the next day when it came to this bike since it was shipping directly from Cervélo headquarters in Canada. Customs put a delay in the shipping, which I was perfectly fine with as long as I received my bike on time. It took approx. 1 week to have the bike in my hands, ONE DAY before my race day! Phew! Lucky me! What I really appreciated about the whole experience is the communication between the owner and I. He checked in with me a few times to give me an update on my order, he didn't seem bothered if I called back to see if there were any additional updates. Overall, it was a very good shopping experience and thanks to them I am now a proud owner of a new Cervélo P3! read more

Ah, the good ol' Pasadena Bay Area Schwann Shop! I've been coming to this place since the early 80's, back when GT, Dyno, Mongoose, Hutch, Skyway, Diamond Back, PK Ripper and Kuwahara were the rage! And the place pretty much looks the same as it did all those years ago and they still deliver the best in bicycle service and products. I went in there last year to have both my old BMX bikes overhauled because they were in storage for so long. I was very happy to see that Fred is still working there and doing his thing. This man knows his craft and it brought back so many warm memories just seeing him there. Their pricing on labor is fair and they do a heck of a job with bike repairs and maintenance. So glad they are still around and to this day with the local Pasadena area changing so much for the worse. Keep up the great work! Bay Area Schwinn might be a bit of a drive for people living in the city so they conveniently have a website with all the different styles and types of bicycles they have. I decided to go in and chat with a bike aficionado since I was unsure of what I wanted. After looking at the bicycles like a lost puppy, Hieu greeted me and asked me a few questions to find a bicycle to handle the terrains I would be riding on. Once I chose the bicycle right for me, he ordered the bike and even knocked off some $$ to make it more affordable! Awesome! I was told it should be ready the following week and was given updates every couple days on the status of the bike. The whole process was smooth, hassle-free and I LOVE my new bike! We dropped my husband's bike off for repairs and a tune-up on July 25. We were told it would take 6-8 weeks . No problem. Due to COVID I waited an extra week or so to follow up with them for the services to be complete. Not one phone call or email was sent to us during this time. TODAY I call to follow up on the bike. First time I called I was placed on hold for over 10 minutes, I hung up and called back only to be told the repairs haven't even been started on the bike. With all the great reviews we saw online and on Yelp, to say the least, I am very disappointed in their communication or lack of communication with us and lack of timely service and now having to wait even longer before we can get the bike back with requested repairs. read more

I went to the Highway 3 location due to two flat tires. I was told there was nothing wrong with my back tube and wasn't advised to replace it. Days later, it was completely flat. Today, a week later, I bring the bike back and had to argue with the skinny punk kid who works there about my experience. He ignored another colleague who advised him not to charge me for labor whatsoever. I was given a 5 dollar discount on the tube and labor total. Effectively, I was charged for labor twice. Then the kid decided to insult the technician, Chris, who had done the original repair. All I wanted was for it to be made right, and it wasn't. I won't be going back there - there are plenty of other cycling repair locations who would have made the right call BOTH times. UGH! read more
