1 week postpartum right now! We delivered our babe on a Friday and received the pills on a Wednesday. It's the holiday season so they came a day late, but it was not a big deal. Shawna let me know the mailing updates, which was helpful! We delivered at 4:35am and I told Shawna at 6:50am. She responded before 8:30am and was at the hospital (east bay) less than 2 hours later. I wish I could have met her, but well, birth! Working with Shawna was awesome. We communicated by her website contact form, email and then closer to the due date was text. She was always so prompt and kind, which was reassuring! When I received the kit, I teared up. I was not expecting the umbilical cord, and I thought I had lost his stump already (his fell out by day 4!). She made a heart out of it! It's only been a few days of taking the pills (I have decided to take 1 a day), but they seem great! Regular vitamin size. They taste like iron but I just swallow with a flavored drink and don't taste it at all. You can choose to have flavored capsules but I decided to just do regular ones. Shawna is also really thoughtful. I gave her one of our baby shower favors which contained a candle to light on the day our babe was born. She told me she lit the candle during the encapsulation process and then sent pictures of my placenta with the lit candle. So kind! She emailed recommendations and potential dosages, which were clear. She will always answer questions as quick as she can. I would encapsulate 1000000% again and definitely recommend Shawna and her services!

Shawna has amazing customer service! She responds incredibly fast and is very helpful and resourceful. The entire process was a breeze and I had nothing to worry about. She mailed us a small cooler bag to collect the placenta in from the hospital and let my husband outside of the hospital for pick up. She had my placenta pills back within two days. It was an incredibly fast turn around time and brought them to my door so I didn't have to stress about anything. Once I started the pills, I immediately noticed results. I had more energy and a positive mood. The biggest benefit was the increase in my milk supply! Woohoo! I requested to have my pills undreamed and the pill capsules were an orange flavor. This was great because after taking the pills I didn't have a gross taste. I had fraternal twins so I had two placentas. She gave me two different bottles with about 300 pills. I highly recommend using Shawna! You won't be disappointed!

    My Encapsulated Placenta

Shawna is awesome. I didn't think about encapsulating my placenta seriously literally until I was in the hospital in labor. I found her through Yelp, reached out to her and she responded pretty quickly. The same day, after I delivered, she met my husband outside the hospital to pick up the placenta and within three days, she provided us with the encapsulation at our home! Amazing. If you are looking into the same, look no further :-) she is quick and gets it done right!

This is my second time using Shawna's services (first time in 2020 and again this month with my second baby)! I completely believe that this process has been a huge positive addition to my postpartum journey. I highly recommend this to any mama. It is such an easy process and Shawna is more than accommodating and provides easy instructions for pre and post services. capsulating your placenta with Bay Area Placenta Services, definitely the way to go!

This was my first pregnancy and my first time using Bay Area Placenta Services, Shawna was great. I delivered in Antioch which is outside of her normal area but Shawna was able to meet my husband in Walnut Creek to hand off my " tree of life". Turn around time was pretty quick. I delivered on Thursday and had my capsules & art work by Monday afternoon! I choose Strawberry flavored capsules and they do taste like Strawberry if you leave them in your mouth long enough lol. I will definitely be using her with my next pregnancy and recommending her to all my family and friends! Thanks again Shawna

When my son was born, I had a lot of issues with breastfeeding, including sore/cracked nipples, low milk supply (such that we had to supplement with formula), etc etc. We didn't find the nurses at Kaiser to be all that helpful and some of them even tried to tell us that "this is just how it is at the beginning." So I really thought that I just needed to buck up and power through the pain or stop breastfeeding altogether. I remember talking to my doula about this and on her recommendation, we decided to check out the group lactation clinic that Farrell Topham and Katie Howser offered at Community Well on Tuesday mornings before giving up on nursing. These two ladies changed our lives!! My son and I (and even my husband) literally became regulars at their clinic for our first few weeks postpartum. Farrell and Katie helped me troubleshoot every breastfeeding issue I had and they were able to solve every single one of them. They taught me alternate nursing positions for different situations, how to use a pump properly (that was apparently the cause of my bruised nipple and not my son!), etc etc. I'm SO proud to say that all thanks to them, my son and I are now a happy breastfeeding pair!! And even now, I still go back to the clinic every once in a while when I run into a question, such as when my son decided to stage a "bottle boycott" a few weeks ago and when I needed their advice on how to prepare for going back to work. Or when I just need a sanity check about how many ounces my son is actually drinking during a nursing session or whether he's still gaining weight, because they always have their high-resolution scale with them at the clinic. In addition to breastfeeding help, Farrell and Katie also taught us a bunch more stuff about being new parents. Farrell showed us how to use a Moby, a ring sling, and an Ergo properly and now, we LOVE wearing our baby! They also gave us lots of advice about our upcoming international trip with our three-month-old (eeek!). Thank you Farrell and Katie!!! Prior to picking up the brush here, I had dabbled in a paint and sip here and there, a doodle once in a while, but it had been a while since I had really sat down and committed myself to making a piece of art. Sitting down in front of a blank canvas with no prompt, subject, or directions to go off was intimidating, and vastly rewarding. I've learned to trust my first impulse, let go of worrying if something looks "right" (hint: it never does, no matter how hard I try :^) ), and ultimately embrace whatever's coming up. The goal is to create a painting from within & quiet the inner critic. It's about the process of letting go of "perfection" & to be create whatever comes up. It may sound a little woo-woo but the beauty of this process is that there's no right or wrong or good or bad painting - it's about your experience. As part of her doula services, she comes to your home for 3 prenatal visits, where you get the opportunity to try out practical exercises (from pregnancy massage techniques to pain alleviating exercises, talk through how your pregnancy is going individualizing our care and even review a manual binder that she provides for you. And of course, the main event, true labor and giving birth! Shannon has a way of just blending into your family during such an intense moment and your family's needs, stepping up and stepping down seamlessly, but always right there when we needed her. During labor/birth at the hospital, Shannon's belief and faith in me to surrender and brave through a natural birth never wavered. She really did it *all*--preparing bone broth for me to sip on in the midst of a contraction, acting as head cheerleader, setting the oxytocin mood in our delivery room with string lights, aromatherapy, and music. Oh, and not to mention, the hip squeezes and back rubs she provides in the most intense moments of labor. My husband and I had never been so impressed with a service before! Oh, I'm not done...she even did labor/birth photos for us, and a newborn session in our home two weeks postpartum. *cries happy tears* Thanks to Shannon, I experienced the most FUN and empowering birth. 12/10 recommend investing in her services!

We trusted her implicitly with our baby from night one which was critical for us as anxious new parents. Marilou's calm, professional, and warm presence made us feel so at ease during a very vulnerable time. We truly loved our time with her and are so grateful for the care she provided. Oh my god. Your search is over. Hire this amazing human being NOW…read more We hired Elizabeth for our first pregnancy and we regret nothing. We were already taking classes and knew I needed more support than just my already sleep deprived partner. She was phenomenal! Her calm, cool demeanor was something we needed when we didn't know what to do. I had BAD hip pain that I was having trouble managing on my own. After calling Elizabeth over, she knew exactly where to add pressure on my hips to relieve some of the pain before we hit the hospital. She suggested how to adjust the TENS unit patches to help manage such pain before heading over to the hospital. She even knudged when to go to the hospital. She was with us for all the decisions at the hospital (i.e. took the initiative to ask the anesthesiologist what to do when my epidural fell out. Originally the anesthesiologist gave us options but we wanted to know his recommendation). She even snapped the best birth photos! She kindly moved our stuff from the delivery room to the post partum unit. She truly listens to your concerns and wants the best for you and your family. I can sense the love and care from her. Elizabeth was wonderful and I truly believe with her help, we had a great delivery. Highly recommended :) Fyi Elizabeth had a similar structure to most Doulas in the area: 2 prenatal zoom visits, labor and delivery support, and 1 post natal visit.

She brings years of birthing experience, so much knowledge, and a warm calm personality to the delivery room. Her prenatal visits helped calm any nerves I had, and she was so helpful in setting expectations and birth plans. During labor she was immensely helpful- suggesting positions, keeping me hydrated, a hand to hold, applying warm compresses, and checking in with the medical team. She always knew what to do! Her help also allowed my partner to be present in the birth experience by not having to worry as much as we welcomed our first baby. I hoped to have an intervention free birth in hospital, which isn't necessarily the easiest thing to have, and with doula Elizabeth's help I was able to achieve that. Welcoming my baby in a happy, calm, peaceful environment was such an amazingly wonderful experience. If you're looking for a wonderfully caring and super knowledgeable doula- look no further.
