He was able to quickly come to our home, and fix the water pipe shut off valve. The water presssure literally burst the valve off under our sink. He also replaced the shut off valve for our toilet. It was frozen. (flipped house eye roll) They are coming on Tuesday to replace our 20 year old water heater. I will let you know how that goes. We feel he offered a fair price, so went ahead with the job.

One hand smudge I found later on a newly painted wall in guest bath. Not a problem since I had to touch up space behind the taller old toilet tank anyway!

Anthony agreed to come out and fix it. We were surprised it was leaking so quickly after replacement. he said he would not charge us but that it would be the last time. After that we would have to pay all over again. On October 27, 2025, and Sprinklers came out to do normal maintenance on our sprinkler system and the backflow valve was leaking just as it had when Anthony replaced it and then fixed it eight months later. The backflow valve appeared to be very old according to the technician. When Anthony said he replaced it in August 2023, I did not retain the part. This time I will retain it. This repair is quite expensive. My bill today including some other adjustments was $895. I'm writing this to advise you that if you use Curtis Plumbing, retain the parts that they replace. I'm still not convinced that Anthony ever replaced the backflow valve in the first place.

I gave Alvarez several opportunities to resolve this privately. I have nothing financially to gain. My family paid Alvarez more than $1,000 after a partial refund, hired another company, stayed in a hotel for two nights, and experienced stress. We called because our AC unit was making intermittent ticking noise. Before the appointment, it was cooling properly. We did not call because the house was hot, the AC had stopped cooling, or we suspected a refrigerant leak. The technician presented a bundled estimate of $1,080.25 for a dual-run capacitor, hard-start kit, single-pole 24V/40A contactor, labor, and materials. These components were presented together as work needed immediately to fully correct the noise. We were not clearly told which items were necessary, optional, or preventative. The estimate did not provide prices, manufacturers, model numbers, or specifications. Everything was combined into one price, making it difficult to research the products or compare costs. A residential capacitor may cost approximately $40, depending on specifications. I own a business and understand that professional pricing also covers labor, diagnostics, insurance, overhead, expertise, and warranty. My concern is not that Alvarez earns a profit. My concern is the lack of transparency surrounding a non-itemized $1,080.25 bundle presented as immediately necessary. Alvarez later partially refunded the hard-start kit after we questioned how it had been presented. After completing the electrical work, the technician said the system was low on refrigerant. Alvarez charged approximately $185 per pound for R-410A. Other providers quoted us approximately $85-$125 per pound. Consumers should compare costs before authorizing service. When my husband asked how much refrigerant was required, the technician did not provide a clear target. According to our recollection, he told my husband to say when to stop. My husband is not an HVAC technician and could not determine the correct amount without seeing the readings or receiving a professional target. Alvarez's notes later characterized the conversation as though my husband limited the refrigerant to two pounds because he did not want to pay for more. That does not reflect our recollection. We had the funds and were willing to pay for what the system legitimately required. He was trying to understand how much was needed. The notes were not meaningfully presented for review. The technician quickly scrolled through the iPad and directed my husband where to sign. He believed he was authorizing the work, not confirming statements he had not been given a reasonable opportunity to read. Those disputed notes and his signature are now being used to support the company's version. That process did not feel transparent. Cooling problems developed that had not existed previously. A possible leak was discussed, but no specific leak was located or demonstrated to us. Our home eventually exceeded 90 degrees. We hired another HVAC company and stayed in a hotel for two nights. We are now working with a different provider that has been more transparent while monitoring the system. To date, even after additional service and refrigerant, no specific leak has been located or shown to us. Alvarez advertises commissions or bonuses. I cannot confirm this technician's compensation, but potential sales incentives make itemized pricing and clear explanations important. We contacted James, the Vice President of Operations, and gave Alvarez multiple opportunities to reach a reasonable resolution. We asked only for our money back so we could apply it toward diagnosing and correcting the issue. We requested no additional compensation and are not trying to profit. Management continued relying on the disputed notes and signed documentation. We did not feel that our account or concerns were adequately considered. Before authorizing HVAC work, require itemized prices, model numbers, and specifications. Ask what is necessary, optional, or preventative and what diagnostic result supports each recommendation. Compare prices, request photographs and readings, review every service note before signing, ask whether sales incentives apply, and obtain a second opinion if anything is unclear. This experience felt misleading because of the bundled pricing, missing product information, unclear refrigerant target, quickly scrolled signature process, disputed notes, and management's response. Alvarez retained the financial benefit while our family carried the hotel expenses, additional HVAC costs, inconvenience, and emotional burden. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Alvarez Plumbing & Air Conditioning. Consumers should ask questions, challenge documentation they believe is inaccurate, and obtain a second opinion before authorizing expensive work.

By 6pm we had a fully new unit, clean, dry, working. So obviously I haven't seen my husband for a "hot" minute as he's "testing" the shower water but we both expect to see Jose on Tuesday to install the water softener we had been wanting. All joking aside Jose was timely, knowledgeable, cost efficient, fast, respectful and self sufficient. He was easy to understand and communicated very well (we non plumbers could easily grasp his point). In these days of COVID he also was extremely careful about not touching anything in our homes and wore several different pairs of gloves. I can't wait for softened water..Florida water has robbed me of my "Calgon"moments. I'll update my review from my (hopefully) very bubbly, bubble bath Wednesday after our water softener install.
