It's a small beach with a short shore and there is shallow water. I saw herons and folks using metal detectors. The sandy area had cool shells and some interesting bugs. I liked that there was a clean bathroom between the parking lot and the beach. There were picnic tables on the sand where we enjoyed snacks. They were shaded so it was nice. The bad: There are lots of jelly fish that can definitely sting so you basically cannot get into the water. No tents are allowed. The interesting: I saw lots of dogs here running around in the water. It looks very dog-friendly despite other reviews saying there are signs that don't allow dogs.

Originally, we were interested in Matapeake Beach because of the dog beach. However for our first visit (of hopefully many visits), we decided to leave the dog at home because it was super hot. But, I think in the future, we will take the dog if we can arrive to the beach around 8 am. The second reason we were interested in this beach: It is fairly close to Silver Spring, MD. With a departure of 9am, we arrived at the beach around 10 am on a summer weekday. For the most part, we did not experience too much traffic (on a weekday) in both directions Silver Spring-Matapeake-Silver Spring. Also, I think there were 1-2 tolls in each directions. Overall, I thought the beach/park was very clean and well-maintained. I'll note that there are not very many amenities (if any) on or near the beach the beach (e.g., food vendors), which necessarily was not a bad thing for me. Although parking is limited, it is free (a very pleasant surprise) as of June 2025. I'm not 100% sure, but I think there were like 50 (or less) parking spaces. Since we visited on a weekday, we did not have any trouble finding a spot in the parking lot. However, I can imagine that parking my be a bit of a nightmare on weekends and holidays. Also, the access to the beach was free (another pleasant surprise). The folks at the beach were pretty friendly and respectful of their surroundings -- for instance, I did not hear super loud music (just the soundtrack of waves, a few dogs barking, and a few kids playing); see people acting a plum fool; notice substantial litter (or other not so fun things) on the beach. Even though we were disappointed that we had to take down our beach tent, the park ranger was super nice about it. The water was a pretty smooth with little to no waves so it is nice for little humans and dogs. I think I had to walk about 0.25 miles to get to a point where the water was waist level to me, but that was a VERY minor inconvenience. Overall, I think this is a great beach for a quick day (or half a day) trip.

Thomas Point Park in Annapolis is a county park that offers beautiful views of the Thomas Point Lighthouse, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and the bay in general. There is a pavilion that can be rented and a day camping area but I believe what makes this park so popular in the summer months is that its a good fishing spot. As the name implies, the park is on a point of land that jets out into the bay offering great views of the water year round. From November through March visitors can drive into the park without paying a fee. But if you are wanting to drive into the park April though October then you need to obtain a permit and I think they can be a bit tricky to come by. Permits are sold at Quiet Waters Park and sold on a limited first come, first served basis. A limited number of daily permits are sold each morning and a total of 75 monthly permits are sold each month on the last Thursday of the prior month. So yeah, a little tricky but its understandable that admission to this small park, which is accessible through a residential neighborhood, needs to be limited.

The beach is gated although if your dog is a good swimmer, may want to make sure they don't go over the rocks divider. Once you finish, there is hose down area before you head back out. First, I really appreciated that the park was separated with sections for large and small dogs. Second, the section for the large dogs is pretty large. Unfortunately during our visit, there were no other dogs at the park. While there was plenty of open space, I didn't notice too much shade, which is probably why there were not too many dogs during our early afternoon visit, but I guess that's a minor concern. Although we do not live in Annapolis, I can see us visiting again (even with the $9 entrance fee) as a means to tire out the pup before checking out a local restaurant.

First of all most part extremely chill and helpful fellow anglers here. Also the walk out on the bay, is far enough it gets you to where the action is. Parking is the only challenge. Have caught croaker, spot, bluefish, sea trout here. Have seen stingrays and sharks caught. It's something you won't forget. Wear sunscreen in the summer. I do wish there were concessions, but can't win them all. What matters most is how's the fishing? Pretty impressive. Also a good place to relax as well.

Special events are also held here. For those who just want a leisurely stroll along the Annapolis Harbor and look out into the Chesapeake Bay, this is a perfect spot. There is paid parking and once you stroll around the park or sit and enjoy the view, you can choose one of many bars / restaurants in the nearby proximity. In three minutes, you can walk to the U.S. Naval Academy. Along the outskirts of the park, you can take a water tour aboard the Harbor Queen. As the park is in the heart of Annapolis, it is worth seeing.

We booked Miss Susie Charters for a late October catfishing trip out of Tantallon Marina, and the…read moreexperience far exceeded our expectations. Getting there was a little tricky since parking is street-only, so I highly recommend arriving early like we did. We were able to find a spot without issue, but I can imagine it getting tougher later in the day. It was also a bit confusing at first since you have to walk through a closed marina gate marked "No Trespassing" to get to the dock. Thankfully, a crew member from Miss Susie met us at the second gate and escorted us to the boat (Miss Susie III). Once onboard, both the captain and his mate were incredibly friendly, helpful, and genuinely funny. They gave us a clear walkthrough of what to expect and were very patient with the first-timers in our group. Everyone felt comfortable, even those new to fishing (and there were several). We had modest hopes and just wanted to catch a few fish but ended up catching over 50 catfish between the seven of us! It seemed like non-stop action, and everyone on board was raving about the experience afterwards. Several folks even said they hoped we'd do it again and I guarantee you that we will. This is very likely becoming a yearly tradition! If you're looking for a fun, well-run charter experience with a great crew, I can't recommend Miss Susie Charters enough. We had a blast!

We were a group of nine adults and one child with this being the first time for most of the group. We didn't catch our limit of fish but everyone had a great time on the water. I can honestly say that they gave us their best. We moved around when nothing was biting and we did not stop trying. We obeyed all laws and threw back all that were under 19 inches , which seem to be more than what we could keep. Had fun! Next time We'll try an early morning trip.
