Horrible place to live !! Been here for several years now ! And they keep increasing the lot rent every year we had many hurricane this last one Milton destroyed our house. We try to get a hold of them for the past four weeks and some lady by the name Jessica has been on vacation since last I heard from another person at the office that they don't want us to surrender the mobile home they want us to remove the house from their lot so they can go ahead and have a nice and clean so they can sell this to somebody else they don't care for their community. They just lie and everything is about money. I'm not the only person before your rent on this place. Do your own research stay away from this people read more

I bought a home in Bay Indies in June, 2020. I appreciate that I could purchase a nice size retirement home for cash. The lot rent is reasonable considering it includes property tax, trash, lawn service, and all the amenities that the resort have to offer. The entire community is kept up beautifully. I looked at several communities on both coasts of Florida, and the monthly charge is in line with all of Florida. Many are much more expensive. If you want no ammenities, and not well taken care of neighborhoods, there are cheaper communities. The homes I was looking at seemed to be selling rather briskly.....so don't hesitate if you see you you like. The bad reviews seem to be people who have financial difficulties, or expect services that do not exist. Ignore them, it is a wonderful place and really worth looking at. read more

This place is the reason that we have a lot of homeless people in United States. Ripping senior citizens off. They are greedy. I was going to pay cash for a home. They want $905 lot rent then on top of that $67 a month to pay the city of Venice for police and fire and emergency squad. Then you pay all your utilities on top of that. Mowing is the only thing you get for your lot rent that can go up anytime. Which is about two squares big. There is three swimming pools and a clubhouse. There are so many homes in there for sale because they just are greedy people. You can't let anybody stay there unless they approve it. You can't rent it out unless they approve it. this park is a great place to live. The location to everything - the beach, shopping, biking and walking trails, pool, etc. is great. They take care of the grounds so you have no lawn to care for when temps are HOT in the summer. Electric bill runs at most 120 during very hot temps but is under 100 most of the year. Taxes are included in the lot rent along with cable and many amenities. Neighbors are friendly and helpful. Rents in the area for a single family home the size of a double wide mobile are over 1400 a month. Lot rent here is approx 882 with property taxes 67.19 am month. If you were to purchase a single family home in this area with over 1100 sq ft of living space prices are starting at 219,000 and up. The homes in this park can be purchased for 20,000. ELS s/b a shamed of charging this lot rent that increases 4%/year. Eventually no one will be able to afford to live in BI. The trailers that are for sale aren't selling. I'm glad that I have a house in another state that I can pack-up and move, if only I can get my husband to agree. read more

We bought a home in Bay Indies last Spring (2019). I absolutely love it here. The home was very reasonably priced and the monthly rental fee is also reasonable considering the location, all the ammenties, clubs, activities and very friendly neighbors. I am so comfortable living here. It's a perfect place to live..I also have attended church held here and I love it. Over the holidays, nearly every home is decorated and all comon areas too. Made an offer on a home in this community but had to back out once I saw the lot fees going up 4% per year for the next three years. Our lot rent would have been over $1000 bucks. It is astonishing that this community has lot rents that are so expensive. There doesn't seem to be any cap on the lot fees and I guess they can go up to whatever they want it to be. read more

The worst place I've ever lived, if your thinking about buying here DON'T!! The lot rent goes up every year with no end in site, if your living on a fixed income you'll be homeless soon. Then when you do get to that point the management people that run Bay Indies will not talk to you or help you in any way, they refuse to return phone calls, return emails they leave you hanging. And god forbid if your thinking about putting your place up for sale don't do that either..go to an outside source. I wish I had never moved to Bay Indies and if I could give minus stars I would have. Stay way from this community! read more

My husband and myself have lived in Bay Indies for the past (3) years and I can say all in all it has been a pretty good experience. The rent has gone up in the past year but so have all the rents in Venice & Sarasota. If you are a retired person or a snowbird there are many clubs & activities that you can participate in. I still work but use the pools often during my free time. (If you are bored that is your choice). Every morning they have a water-exercise class if you want to participate and it is great for people who want to exercise and socialize as well. If you just like to swim at your own leisure that is fine as well. The gals always make me feel welcome. They have meet & greets, trips to casinos, concerts, lunches, arts & crafts, etc. There is also a walking path for walks and bike riding. evening . This is a very large community with (3) swimming pools, Hot Tubs, Tennis Courts. Basically I am saying you get many activities for the money you pay. If you decide to buy a place you can also rent it out for part of the year when your not using your place. (This works out for some people but obviously, not for all). We are also only 5 to 10 minutes from some of the most beautiful beaches you might like to visit. I will agree that sometimes the landscapers could do a better job but all in all the place is pretty well kept. The place is not perfect but not many places are and there is always room to improve. If you want a sense of community this is a nice place to live. read more

No stars, I recently rent a home here, have been sleeping on my sofa for almost (2) months as the master bath is contaminated with black mold, had to demand mold remediation's- telling them I was placing rent in escrow account they finally moved on it, still sleeping on my sofa, as work has taken over a month to get through the process, sever roach infestation, never in my life of living in 22 other states, and 4 other countries, have I had this of issue, there are sever issues with the management people D NOT RENT OR PURCHAS HERE read more

When renting an older mobile home for 6 years the maintenance was sometimes not done at all sometimes and if it was done it was sloppy at best. Management is not helpful they are after the money only the renter has to upkeep the landscaping and tree trimming the mowing is all they provide and its done in 1 min Very Disappointed read more

It is an ok place to live but as many people have pointed out, the lot rents are high along with the water bill. The city of Venice charges $35 a month just to prepare your bill! 1307 lots x 35 = $45,745. I'd say the city is making out pretty good. Eventually, people won't be willing to pay the high rents especially on a 1972 mobile home. It won't matter if you get the home for free because it's going to need some work and you'll be lucky to get insurance on it. Bay Indies Philosophy is people up north are selling their houses for silly (lots) money and this ($$$$$) is nothing to them. They'll buy one of the newer homes for over $100,000. The only thing I like about living here is the choice of people you want to associate with. If you buy a single family house for $200,000 plus, it'll take you some time to acquire friends. I would give this no stars if I had the choice!! My grandmother lives on this 55 and older retirement community and the buy mobile homes and pay a ground that they have raised to 800$ a month and for someone loving off social security is outrageous., the worst part was I couldn't get a hold of her one day and her neighbor didn't answer so I called the front desk to see if someone would mind just knocking on her door to make sure she was ok ... They told me they will not do that !! I asked why if it was agenst the law they said no but I have to call the police to check on her .... Thankfully she was ok but I think for a retirement community it's a terrible place read more
