I was forced to find a new one that was covered due to some extenuating circumstances. I have to admit, I feel that Esther is a Godsend. Seriously, coming from another office can be a bit frightening as it comes to mental wellness. I mean, you spend time getting to know someone and suddenly you're having to share all over again. I am aware of their cancellation fee and it is true it is $65. One day, I was running behind and called them to see whether it would be best to cancel. The office staff advised me that it would be best to show up even if I were late, save myself the late cancellation fee. I know they text and call to remind me of upcoming appointments with enough time to cancel in a timely manner if I should need to do so. So, the fee? That's all on me, if I'm a no show. At first, I had a few frustrations. For instance, their need for a card on file (for the cancellation fees), at the time I started visiting here, I didn't have any cash at all and the thought of giving them my card really upset me. I got over it. The exercises and the support offered has been monumental in my care. Esther has done a wonderful job in assisting me in assisting myself. I have recommended this office to others based on my experience. My understanding is not all of the providers have openings and not all of them accept the same insurance. I have visited a great deal of counselors in my lifetime and I feel it's very important to find one that fits your needs. For me, this office does and I am willing to drive out of my way to continue my care here.

The "training" environment means he'll substitute a student doctor for your appointment and most likely will not follow up afterward. The staff are apathetic liars who don't follow up on Rx refill requests and have no empathy for the problems caused by their inaction. They'll do anything to get you to come in to the office in order to bill your insurance for a nonsensical office visit.

Other doctors nowadays come in with a computer tablet, barely look at you, check a bunch of boxes, and then leave. Not Dr. VanHelder- he takes the time to sit and listen to you- and he genuinely cares for your health and well being. I know a lot of other patients who have been patients here as long as I have- if not longer. I've also switched insurances three times, and this office has worked with me each time, and they've taken each insurance. The office is a little older, but it's still clean, and has a safe and comforting feel. In a world where everyone has their faces buried in their phones, and everyone is in a hurry, it is comforting to have a doctor who sits with you face to face and gives you the attention you deserve. I recommend Dr. VanHelder to everyone I know who is looking for a great family care doctor.

But, drinking a pot of coffee is not always the answer and at the age of 39 I took the advice of my doctor of 10 years. His waiting room is small and has many magazines on the human mind. With the stack of issues there you could with enough time figure out and identify your own disorder thus bypassing the need for your co-pay. I did not have to wait long so I didn't have a chance to dive into the arena of self-diagnosis. His office staff is very polite with a good sense of humor, as it should be. They do no shake hands in this office, as one of the staff had an organ transplant, and thus wishes not to be sick. While this office rule surprised me if it was my heart I would do the same. Dr. Fox has been in practice for 20 plus years and it shows. You walk into his office and there is the common couch and chair, he sits by the window. All three times I met with him he did not use any electrical light but chose to use the natural light from outside. The setting is very relaxing and due to the location of the office and building there is very little noise from the other offices. It backs to a huge pond and is well also very relaxing to see this. He asked me why I had come to see him and answered him with truth. He asked about my early life and family and progressed to current work, life and family. Never once did he seem bored or distracted by the stream of information he was asking for. He is very soft spoken with no air of you're the patient and I'm the doctor. We are just talking and it felt like a conversation. He has a good sense of humor and smiles in agreement with answers or remarks. The next visit was a 3 1/2 hour test which will or won't be paid for by your insurance the office staff will do the checking for you. This test is taken in the waiting room and takes a long time. It's to see if you have add, hyperactivity or other disorders. My suggestion is bring a snack and a drink if you ask the staff they will give you want out of the cooler. After I was done with my test it was given to the staff and I paid my co-pay and I left. Two weeks later I received my call and they had the results. I came in reviewed the test sheet agree and they gave me a copy of the results. It was just as I had believed, I had ADD without AADHD and I was a well adjusted person. I was then asked to check to see if they spelled everything correct and the city I was born in was spelled wrong by American standards but spelled correct in Gaelic, I pointed this out and he thought it was amusing. We then discussed the test results and at the end I said, I do not believe there is a reason to see you again. For people whom need more than 3 sessions to find a solution or their issues consider this, you are paying for the attention of your doctor. You are paying for a trained audience to give you feedback for your personal issues. You get out of it what you put into it. If I should need to talk to another professional I will return to the care of Dr. Fox I felt he does have the best concerns for his patients.

Between the initial office visit and one set of labs, I've already spent over $1,000. I was told the labs would "usually come back fairly reasonable" through insurance, but $725 is far from reasonable. I was also told there was a cash-pay option of $900, which is equally concerning. I'm not sure what standard of "reasonable" this clinic is using, because these costs feel excessive and out of reach for many people. It gave me the impression that this practice may only be accessible to those for whom cost isn't a concern. Additionally, my experience during the in-office lab draw was concerning. The staff member who attempted it seemed very inexperienced, she removed the tourniquet before even attempting to insert the needle and then tried to reposition the needle after insertion. Another staff member had to step in and was able to draw the labs immediately without any issues, which was frustrating given that I've been told I have easy veins. On top of that, I would have had to pay another $219 out of pocket for a follow-up lab review that was supposed to happen within 7-10 days, but the earliest available appointment was a month out. At that point, I decided to cancel and take it as a sign. I would not return and cannot recommend this clinic. I would hate for someone else to end up in the same position, especially when you're already not feeling well and just trying to find answers, only to be left with an unexpected financial burden on top of it.
