I cannot say enough amazing things about Jane. My daughter has been in counseling for about 3 years…read morenow and we never saw any results until we started seeing Jane. Jane doesn't just help our daughter, she has given me countless tools as well. I finally feel like I'm actually equipped to be a parent for the first time in 10 years. I also picked up her book Raising Humane Beings and I couldn't put it down. I read the whole thing in 2 days and had so many "ah-ha" moments. The way I parent has basically done a complete 180 since meeting Jane and our family feels so much more calm and connected now. Jane was born to do this work. I've even decided to start going to her myself for non-parenting counseling as well. If you want actual results from counseling, look no further. Jane is the real deal. Edit: After reading through some of the other reviews I feel the need to add that some of the tools Jane offers may not be considered "conventional"... and that's a GOOD THING. That's why her tools actually work. Don't expect the same old song and dance you're going to get from any counselor you go to. If you go into therapy with an open mind and a willingness to do the work, you will see results immediately. An example for me was her "talking stick" exercise. I thought to myself "there's no freaking way out family is going to sit down and do talking stick"... and after Jane had my daughter and I practice it in a session, it's our new favorite thing! It instantly made me feel so much more connected to my daughter and helped her feel heard and validated. But again, having an open mind and being willing to try something different is key. You have to actually want your situation to change, otherwise no counselor or amount of therapy will work. Seems like the only negative reviews were from people that either never actually had a session with her, or went in and didn't try the tools she recommended, which says less about Jane and more about the reviewer IMO.

Since meeting Jane, my relationship with my partner has transcended any space it's been in before…read more We have ben able to lean into the tools and see real change occur between us. It was difficult and the methods never felt helpful in the moment because of our patterns but we learned that they were doing deeper work in spite of our resistance. While there's a long road ahead, we finally feel like we're in sync.

I booked a couples counseling appointment with my wife. It seemed that the front office staff was unable to understand that we were a couple. They thought we wanted individual therapy even though we booked a couples counseling appointment. If you are queer and want to work with this practice, I recommend vetting their qualifications to treat "LGBT" people. Since it's listed a lot on their website, it's worth inquiring. It also looks like a fair amount of reviews for this practice are written by non-clients. I suspect that their rating from clients is lower than it appears to be.

For the past couple of years, I've been seeing Dr. Brooks, and I really like him. He's super friendly, knowledgeable, and it genuinely feels like he keeps up with current research. I also appreciate that he's suggested supplements alongside medications to help support my mental health, which has been really helpful. That said... the wait times here are honestly pretty frustrating. Every single time I come in for an appointment, I end up waiting way longer than expected. At best, it's usually at least 30 minutes past my scheduled time, and I've had one visit where I waited about an hour and a half. It really feels like they're overbooking appointments, and it makes the whole experience stressful--especially when you plan your day around a set appointment time. I do really like Dr. Brooks, which is why I've stayed, but the consistent delays are enough that I've seriously considered switching to a provider outside of Serenity--it just feels like a hassle to start over somewhere new. If they could get the scheduling under control, this would be a much better experience overall.

SCATHING REVIEW FOR SERENITY MENTAL HEALTH -- BILTMORE CLINIC…read more If I could give zero stars, I would. My experience at Serenity Mental Health Center - Biltmore has been not only unprofessional but dangerously negligent, specifically at the hands of Nurse Practitioner Marcus Nielsen and Dr. Park. I had been a long-term, stable patient of Dr. Danny McClure, who provided consistent, collaborative care. Without any advance notice, he disappeared from the practice. No email. No phone call. No transition plan. Nothing. As a trusting patient, I showed up for what should have been a routine follow-up, only to be blindsided by a new provider I'd never met. Enter Marcus Nielsen, NP. Because Dr. McClure had managed my treatment so well, these visits were simple med-management appointments--I was stable, compliant, and had no issues. For nine appointments, Mr. Nielsen treated everything as "business as usual." Then suddenly--out of nowhere--he announced I had a blood pressure problem. Never mentioned it before. Never discussed trends. Never raised a single concern. I am 38 years old, 140 pounds, and have no prior history of hypertension. But instead of taking the appropriate, evidence-based, medically responsible approach--such as confirming the reading, evaluating situational factors, or considering common causes for isolated BP elevation--he jumped straight to the most reckless, uninformed, and clinically dangerous decision: He abruptly halted my stimulant medication. For context, medical guidelines and psychiatric best practices explicitly warn against suddenly stopping stimulant medication in a patient who has been stable long-term. Abrupt cessation can cause: Severe withdrawal symptoms Cardiovascular instability Mood crashes Rebound fatigue Cognitive impairment Heightened depression or anxiety Increased risk of medication mismanagement No responsible medical professional recommends this without careful tapering or appropriate justification. And yet, Marcus shut it down instantly, offered no discussion, and refused to look at root causes or collaborate on a plan. When I challenged this--with actual medical literature--he dismissed me and doubled down. I walked out. Then Serenity immediately harassed me with "win-back" calls like a used-car dealership trying to meet quota. Against my better judgment, I decided to give the clinic one more chance--but this time with Dr. Park. During our first visit, I explained what happened. To her credit, Dr. Park initially agreed with me. She validated my concerns, acknowledged my stability, and reassured me that a collaborative approach was the right path. But that lasted only until she opened my chart. The moment she saw the note Marcus Nielsen left in the system, she completely reversed everything she had just said. Suddenly she refused to refill my medication--despite my long, stable history and despite her own clinical assessment from fifteen minutes earlier. No explanation. No discussion. Just a total shutdown. At that point, it was clear: This clinic is not operating in the interest of patient health. They are operating under an internal culture of fear, hierarchy, and cover-your-ass decision-making where one provider's poor judgment becomes gospel, even when it contradicts evidence-based medicine and another provider's own assessment. Serenity Mental Health Biltmore is a risk to patient safety. No patient should be blindsided by a provider change. No patient should be punished because one clinician made an incompetent decision. And no patient should be subjected to abrupt med discontinuation without evaluation or medical justification. Between the negligence, the gaslighting, the unprofessional internal politics, and the blatant disregard for safe prescribing practices, this clinic is an absolute danger zone. I genuinely believe both Marcus Nielsen and Dr. Park should be evaluated for competency, and the clinic itself warrants review by the Department of Health. My advice? Protect your mental health--by staying far away from Serenity.

I formerly saw Dr. Hicks, and have transferred to Dr. Rockwell due to Hicks' departure. The doctors…read moreare alright. I didn't love Hicks. Rockwell is decent but I feel he's more efficient at managing time than truly understanding, to be completely honest. That said, they're the only reason I give this practice ANY stars. First, they have a ridiculous late policy. $50 fee if you're more than 5 minutes late. When your office is in downtown Phoenix and you have patients coming from the East valley, how can you charge for being FIVE minutes late, especially with appointments booked during rush hour?! I haven't been to the physical Mesa location yet, but the front office is the same for all locations. Fees for literally everything. Out of medications and need a prescription? That'll be $30. Need an appointment? How about 2 months from now. Even though I was supposed to be back sometime around next week and WOULD have received a new prescription at that appointment, since they don't have any openings for literally two months I have to pay a fee. You have to CALL to do everything with this office. No online patient portal. The doctors won't make a follow-up appointment with you during your session. You can't request appointments, prescriptions, or make payments online. You have to call for everything. And good luck getting anyone on the phone. Even worse is trying to actually get a prescription sent to a pharmacy! I used to have a mail-order pharmacy that only took faxes (for real, I hate them, too) and it would take months to get prescriptions sent in. My new (equally inept) mail order pharmacy called for a new prescription, prompting Northlight to actually call ME to extort the $30 fee and I asked them to send the Rx to my local pharmacy since I'm already out of meds and need them NOW not next week maybe. They were more than happy to take my money, but actually call the pharmacy and send the Rx over? Nah. Not their job. I truly hate this place. I hate dealing with them and their reliance on phone calls and fees for every little thing. How do you not have a patient portal in 2021?! You deal with people with mental issues, phone calls only increase anxiety in a lot of us! And customer service is nonexistant! How do you let patients run out of medication because of ineptitude?! This isn't like running out of Tylenol, I literally need my medication to function in life and every day without it means 3x longer to work back up to normal. Unfortunately because of the pandemic, every other psychiatrist in town is booked up or doesn't take insurance, so I'm stuck with them until I can find an opening somewhere else. As soon as I find someone with an opening, I'm out.
