This year I let the Staff know, but not certain it sunk in due to the "show must go on". We were there the last weekend in April to see our Granddaughter in the leading role and Grandson in multiple roles of a Musical which was wonderful. Harbour Playhouse is such a intimate venue. I only wish I could find some to write a grant for the Playhouse to expand or remodel, and also be able to afford wireless microphones or better sound systems. It has been a joy watching the littlest cast member now 7 or 8 grow thru the years and all of the other regular actors too. The Director is amazing with the actors and even has a young boy who has Autism and a little girl who has Down Syndrome in the cast, I think I saw this year, in the Musical. Hard to see when you are videoing the entire Musical. Please get this permanently closed status updated.. It may have been Black Out season when people tried to go as many theaters have Black Outs too where they take a break, but we will be there come the Fall for the next play or musical.. Anybody with grant writing skills and have a heart for the Arts, this could be your time to shine and find funding for a worthy cause that would be so appreciated, I am absolutely certain..

My daughter auditioned for a part and got it and she had an absolute blast in the production and hopes to go back. I've gone to two different productions and they are so such fun! They do their best to make you feel welcome and take care of you. They have snacks in the lobby, some free and some for a small fee that helps promote the playhouse. They offer inexpensive wine and soda and bottled water during intermission and before the show. The theatre itself needs a little renovating. it's very outdated. As someone who writes reviews that focus on disability accommodation, I have to honestly say that this place needs some work on ADA compliance. I'm sure they are legal--that's not the issue--it's how comfortable it is. If you have a wheelchair, you have to sit in the first few rows, and every time I've come in, they've been full, because no one has put up signs that say they are companion seats for wheelchairs. One time, i had to sit in the aisle, which is a safety and fire hazard. The bathrooms are awkward for wheelchair bound people too. Several of the seats are broken and need to be replaced or repaired. the balcony is outdated and there is no accessible access to the balcony theatre. Short of the renevations that are clearly needed, the theatre itself is cute, has much potential, and the shows are reasonably priced for a fun and family friendly evening out.

Rating this was hard - on kitsch factor, it clearly deserves a "5," while I'd imagine its seance…read moreauthenticity and genuineness is about a "1." The evening is divided into two parts. Hour 1 takes place on the first floor of the wonderful La Carafe. While you imbibe beer or wine, a slight of hand magician visits with you, performing tricks with cards, coins, and other objects. Hour 2 takes place on the second floor, in the front corner by the windows. The person conducting this section is also a slight of hand magician. You'll sign a release agreeing not to sue if killed or injured by unruly spirits, make a pendulum out of a coffin nail, and then... well, you'll have to check it out yourself! If you have a free night during these last days of October (and really, what says Halloween better than a seance at the haunted La Carafe?) and $20 burning a hole in your pocket, go! There are two sessions a night (at 8pm and at 10pm) and while you can purchase your ticket online, they also allow walk ins.

I have participated in music camps through the UH Moores School of Music, I've gone to many concerts here over the years, and I have never had a bad experience. Dolph W. did a great job describing the hall itself. The MSM has different strengths compared to the Rice Shepherd School of Music, but it is no less enjoyable. One of my favorite concerts they hold is the annual "Collage" performance to kick off the new school year. It is free and there is free parking in the adjacent parking lot. Every group within the department performs at least one work so you'll hear from the jazz orchestra, the symphony, the percussionists in a steel drum band, the chorale, the opera students, and even the marching band. You will not be bored. I will say that I know John Cage's 100th birthday is this year, but that was a lot of John Cage to perform in one non-Cage concert this past September. Most of the concerts are by students and faculty, but they do collaborations with local groups as well. Every summer, they hold the Texas Music Festival which recruits conservatory students from around the nation and world for an intensive music camp. Many of their faculty have been there for years. Also, I noticed they now have an online ticket system, but I had problems obtaining tickets through it so I emailed them and they responded within a day and I didn't have any problems getting them at will call.

The acoustics are very nice, and the first floor offers a wonderful view of the stage even from the back. The staff are very friendly and the ticket buying process was very easy. They scanned our tickets at entry with a QR code which was convenient. I would love to attend another opera or musical performance here. The UH choirs are also excellent and it is a pleasure to see them perform here.

There's donation-based concessions. The actors and actresses played their roles phenomenally and made for a gripping show that teetered the edge between comedy and tragedy. Huge props to them and the director for a really fun experience. Highly recommend for a date night or just a new experience!
