Open from 10 to 3 pm, it was ideal to arrive early which we did. Quarts of fresh strawberries were sold for $9. Booths were selling honey, jewelry, home made baked goods, eco-friendly ware. Inside the church there was a book sale for $2 each. Another room held a sale of assorted items one would find in a thrift store. Hamburgers were being made and a variety of picnic style foods were sold and we ate on the tables set up. There was music and children had entertainment too. The highlight of this day were bowls of fresh strawberries served with shortcake and vanilla ice cream for $6. The church volunteers did a wonderful job

Very dramatic with delicate carvings and hand painted details on the beams. I found it quite unique. The stained glass windows are also beautiful but on par with other churches. The cantor during the mass is a young man with a really lovely voice. Apparently, he sings in all of the Sunday masses. It's nice to see young people so involved. The church has a small parking lot in the back and is situated in a nice quiet neighborhood. The church, rectory, convent and school take up the huge block. I highly recommend coming here to experience the church and to attend a mass.

We also love Sister Carla and the priests are always friendly and approachable- so refreshing. This is what a church community looks and feels like. The energy is good, uplifting and warm and they have two areas for musicians to enrich the mass. It really is quite beautiful. They have family events throughout the year, an Easter Bunny, Santa Claus etc. It's really very nice and we feel blessed to be there. :0)

This is the church that I worship at if I am staying local on a Sunday…read more It has a wonderful spirit to it. The pastor and priests are very nice and inspiring, Father Frank is the pastor. He is a fairly new priest and has quite a lot of enthusiasm. His homilies are very nice, not too long and not too short. Every Feast of St. Francis he blesses the animals in the neighborhood and has his own little doxie along for the blessing. The organist is excellent. He really knows how to get every note out of his instrument and he's not a bad singer either. They have some good cantors and a nice choir but it is not overdone like they do in some parishes. If there was one flaw, it is that the congregants talk too much before the Mass starts. It's hard to pray there! Otherwise I think its a lovely parish. Also they are very ably assisted by Deacon Stan and Brother Dominic, a Franciscan friar. If you go there often, people will recognize you and you can talk to them. They can be quite friendly once you get to know them. Like most Catholic church congregations, fellowship is not really the focus but like most Catholic congregations, regulars begin to recognize each other. Also, they do have Bingo there. They also have nice parties and special nights, a flea market around the holidays and other fun events.

My feelings about Next City Church are complicated, and that is exactly why this review is…read moredifficult to write. There are genuinely wonderful people in this congregation. Warm people. Loving people. People who encouraged me, welcomed me, and treated me with real kindness. I do not regret meeting them, and I will not pretend that every part of my experience was negative simply because I am disappointed now. The church also supports missions around the world and raises money for charitable work. The pastor has always been kind to me in person. I want to make that clear because this is not about inventing villains. It is about telling the truth, even when the truth is uncomfortable. My problem is with the religious culture promoted by the leadership. During my time at Next City Church, I repeatedly encountered an attitude that felt cliquish, insular, and dismissive toward anyone whose beliefs fell outside its particular evangelical framework. That included other religions, other Christian traditions, and Catholicism in particular. I personally heard one pastor refer to Catholics as "Pharisees." That comment stayed with me because it revealed something deeper than a simple doctrinal disagreement. A pastor has every right to disagree with Catholic teaching. What he should not expect to do without being challenged is reduce an entire Christian tradition and millions of believers to a cheap insult while acting as though his own small theological circle has a monopoly on truth. Here is the irony: the criticism of Catholicism did not drive me away from it. It made me curious. I decided to investigate Catholicism for myself instead of accepting someone else's caricature. What I found was not the hollow, legalistic religion I had been warned about. I found extraordinary historical, theological, intellectual, liturgical, and spiritual depth. I found a faith rooted in centuries of serious thought, worship, sacrifice, tradition, and reflection. I am now participating in the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults. And I will be completely honest: my Catholic experience has been better by orders of magnitude. The contrast is not subtle. It is enormous. I have found richer worship, a deeper connection to Christian history, a serious sacramental life, greater room for reflection and difficult questions, and a broader ecumenical spirit. I have encountered far more willingness to recognize sincerity, truth, and human dignity beyond one narrow theological boundary. I did not leave Next City Church because the congregation lacked good people. The congregation contains some of the kindest and most wonderful people I have had the pleasure of meeting. I became disillusioned because the leadership's religious worldview felt smaller than the hearts of the people it was supposed to guide. Charitable work matters. Personal kindness matters. Missions matter. But none of those things erase the intolerance, condescension, and dismissive attitudes I encountered toward Catholicism, other Christian traditions, and religions outside evangelical Christianity. My one-star rating is based on that painful contradiction: a congregation capable of tremendous warmth and a church involved in meaningful charitable work, but a leadership culture that I experienced as cliquish, religiously insular, and far too comfortable passing judgment on spiritual traditions it did not appear willing to understand.
