Came here a handful of times and I must start by saying this is the most grace-based church I've been to so far. When I went there and heard a couple of the sermons they were mostly refreshing. There was only one thing that I didn't really care for at this church and their sister church in Manhattan. And it was "the tithe". I have no problem tithing or giving but it was very heavily emphasized and it always felt like pressure especially after quoting Old Testament scripture to go along when it came time to give. This location in Astoria wasn't as bad as the one in Manhattan when it came time to tithing. I visited one time at the Manhattan and there is definitely without a doubt straight up legalism concerning the tithe. I saw it in a booklet that was at their book table up front and I was horrified to say the least. I'm only writing this because people need to know the truth. This booklet is written by one of the pastors there and he says that if you don't tithe God won't bless you which is total hogwash. And he's basing this on the Old Testament which we are not under. As born-again Christians we are under the New Covenant of grace who is Jesus Christ Himself. In the New Testament there is only one scripture that's mention about giving and it applies to all types of giving. And this scripture is 2 Corinthians 9:7 says; each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. This scripture is the only one I see telling us that we could give of our time, money, service and any other resources that's in our hearts to give according to the leading of the Holy Spirit moving in you. So long story short for me this approach is a complete turn off because I am for grace and freedom of the Spirit of God and not legalism. So on one hand I heard a great sermon from one of the pastor named Sherman and it was a complete delight to hear a grace filled message. But then there's another message that's not grace-based going on this same church pressuring the congregation to tithe or else written in this booklet. That's mixture and it's not okay at all. I really hope for the people at this congregation along with their sister churches will discern what God's word actually says and will change their approach on tithing. The way they are doing this is not grace based at all. It's putting people back under law. I hope y'all make a change on this. Thanks! read more

To say this church changed my life is not an exaggeration. Of course, it was God, but, as I have come to learn in the last few months of my life, God uses his church, his people, as his hands and feet. I grew up in a Christian home but walked away from the Lord about 13 years ago, thinking I could walk out my faith outside of fellowship, and, eventually, that isolation destroyed my faith. When I walked into CityLight last February, it had been almost 13 years since I had felt the desire to attend a church. And, if I'm honest, I don't even know why I went. I guess partying had run its course, and, I knew some changes had to be made. But I was pretty numb emotionally and pretty hard hearted and all I really wanted was a little "splash" of spirituality. I was working a lot of hours as an attorney, and, drinking and partying was about the only way I knew to manage stress and the sense of meaninglessness in my life. When I entered the service, music was playing and people were worshipping. Some had their hands raised, others had their eyes closed. I sat toward the back to try to be anonymous. But something started to happen. I started crying ... seemingly for no reason. But it felt good, so, I thought, "God, if this is you, don't stop." I closed my eyes and began to feel the presence of God and the love of God, tangibly, like a warm hug. I couldn't stop crying, but, somehow I knew that things were changing for me and it was good. I didn't have to do anything. I just sat there and received the love of God as it seemed wave after wave washed over me. A short sermon followed, and then another time of worship and prayer, and, I found myself moving to the front to worship with other attendees who had moved forward to dance or worship more freely. Several people seemed to sense what was happening to me (or saw my tear streaked face) and asked if they could pray with me. I could literally feel stress and depression lifting off of me, like someone had taken a blindfold off my eyes and a bag of rocks off my back. I knew I had met with Jesus and that things would never be the same. From that day until now, almost 9 months have past. My initially skeptical girlfriend, received Jesus' love and forgiveness a short while after my experience and was similarly delivered from addictive behaviors and depression. Our bruised relationship has been healed and restored to a healthy friendship and we are planning to be married soon. My son, also, received Jesus' love and forgiveness and one of the highlights of his week now is attending church and worshipping. This stuff is real and it's powerful and it's RADICALLY LIFE CHANGING! The people of CityLight have become our spiritual family and have loved us, prayed for us, encouraged us and counseled us every step of the way. Pastors Bojan, Mo and Mike, thank you for your transparency, your humility, you hunger for God and your availability to the people you serve so well. And to the people of CityLight, my family. I've been attending City Light since 2016 and I have grown exponetially more here than any other church ive attended. Since being here the work God has done in my heart and my life is so real. The gospel is preached, people are set free, filled with the Holy Spirit and encouraged to live an abundant life in Jesus. The fellowship and community is second to none and the Pastors walk in complete humility and love. I am sooo happy i found this church. It feels like home every time i walk in. But even more than that are the life groups out side of Sunday service where hearts and minds are nutured and encouraged. This is where the growth happens!! I'll be honest, I've NEVER become so quickly connected to such amazing and strong believers. Not only do I feel welcomed but I feel like family. I honestly mean this. After every service groups of believers go out and hang out. Everyone is included and welcome! Sometimes we even minister to people together and I've never had people want to do that with me before. The believers I've met here are authentic ,compassionate people that are seriously in love with God and know how to do life together. I love the Pastors. They are reachable and don't exalt themselves. They are humble and preach truth even when it is hard. They care for the individual and call their congregation to grow and move higher in their walks with God. They are men of faith and relatable. These qualities are unfortunately hard to find in the present day American Church. The church is spirit-filled. Their main objective is that God leads the service and I can't explain how grateful I am for this. Many times they've allowed time for God to move and it has always been such a great time of healing for me. If time ever goes over, they always release those who need to go and are respectful of others times... but they never put a time crunch on others who need more. Worship is anointed and contemporary and always points to God. The musicians are skilled and the Worship Pastor is included in what I mentioned earlier. Very humble and relatable. Caring and authentic and all the other qualities mentioned above. If you are looking for a comfortable church where you can slip in and slip out and never grow in your faith...this isn't the church for you. This is an equipping church and one of great family. It's a great balance of giving time to both the word and the spirit. CityLight Church Queens is an awesome place to get connected and involved in a community of cool people here in NYC. They are a bunch of Christians who really believe in the Bible and who connect with God in a personal way. The pastor, Bojan Jancic, knows his stuff and is able to preach in a way that people can relate. The music/worship time is powerful and I always feel the Presence of God when I'm there. They have a Kids' Church for the young ones and there's an awesome range of ages and cultural and ethnic backgrounds. There's also a nice mix of singles and married people. I've always felt really welcome here--the people are friendly, the place is clean, and it's convenient to local transportation and we can usually find parking there too. I personally love being at CityLight Queens because there are a number of young families and couples. Being a mom with a one-year-old and another one on the way, it's nice to be around other people experiencing the same thing. read more

This is my favorite church in all of NYC (even the whole world) no cap! This is a great church for young adults and teenagers. The pastors and their wives are extremely blessed with wisdom, knowledge and overflowing with the Holy Spirit (and also are super relatable!) I am 26 and I've been attending citylight for three years. I was born into a catholic family and I took a leap of faith going to Citylight and it was the best decision I've ever made. I learned how really deep our heavenly Father's love for us is. I learned so much from the citylight fam. This is such a Holy Spirit driven church that from the first day I got hit by waves of love and warmth from the Citylight community. When I saw and experienced their relationship with The Holy Spirit, it inspired me to be a better overall person and build my own relationship with God. My wife used to think God hated her the most. Then, in 1995 my wife and I had a life changing experience and through spirituality (not religion) discovered a God who loves us oh so much. From that time, we have been overwhelmingly blessed. We both wanted a place we could go to reinforce and continue our relationship with our loving God. We turned to several churches in our area and found disappointment in the messages, politics and beliefs. From their teachings, we felt that if we didn't conform to their ways, we would surely go to hell. We believe, that is not what the true spirit is about. We are steadfast believers in the 23rd Psalms; Verse 3: He leadeth me in the path of righteousness for His namesake," (not theirs). We prayed diligently for a church to open in our area where we could go to get our souls fed and not our heads filled. It wasn't long before The Good Lord answered our prayers and brought CityLight to Queens. Naturally we attended our first service with skepticism. Immediately, through the songs of worship and Pastor Bojan Jancic's teaching of God's love, our spirits knew CityLight was a place it could call home.
