I see that there are a lot of not so good reviews for this place but my experience here was great and even in the past, was great. I have been here a handful of times for my children. For me it's a hike. It's about 1 hour away. But this place by far exceeds Harrington Hospital in Southbridge Ma. Upon entering the building was noticeably very clean for such a busy public place. I couldn't believe my eyes. The staff here is friendly and they made a great team. Upon entering the Children's ER everyone that came in to help out our boy was amazing at listening to what we had to say. They all communicated well. They worked together great as a team. They were much faster than I've ever seen in any ER. They actually had empathy for my child and worked hard to get him comfortable. Each doctor that we saw was right on it. We are on night two of my son being hospitalized and still we are impressed with the care we are getting. I will update here if need be. But where we live in the sturbridge area, Southbridge's Harrington Hospital is Rubbish. Apples and oranges. We're very pleased with Baystate children's hospital so far!! Updating nearly a month later: Still we are so pleased with the service we got. My son had 2 follow-ups with another doctor not on campus of the hospital and the care my son received was fantastic. I have always been a fan of baystate (not the wait but the care my kids have gotten). Early this morning I had to rush my 3 year old into the ED due to trouble breathing. He woke up out of a sound sleep with no symptoms other than now he is gasping for air and gagging. I walked into the children's ED and immediately they checked him in. They asked me to go to the next window where a lady listened to his breathing and gave him a braclet then sent him directly into triage to get his vitals. Before vitals were even finished they rushed us back to a room (4-5 minutes after walking through the doors) where a breathing treatment was set up for him and started instantly. Within 5 minutes my babies breathing was back to normal and he was calm. I'm so thankful for Baystate staff and their quick work to get my boy back to his normal self. Another wasteful and unproductive 12 hrs spent in ED. It's not the staff, most were kind but everytime that had a moment to check in, they were immediately pulled away . They were doing their best. Its all on Administration. They run the ED like a sweat shop. Understaffed and overworked. Administration is responsible for unpreparedness for PPE shortages. Administration will not allow you to change doctors within a practice, even if you have expressed your concerns all the way to the top of this Doctors skill level, lack of compassion and blatant mysogony. I have 4 autoimmune diseases and Cancer. Yesterday, chronic stomach pain, radiating chest pain, inability to eat. temporal headaches, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, for 2 weeks prior to visit. I had been working with my PC but everything was moving at a snails pace and my symptoms were worsening. An orderly tried to throw me out of my room and put me in the overcrowded hallway. When I declined explaining my conditions and the fact I had been approved to have a room, and waiting to be admitted for five hours/ I was not leaving the room. No one told him I was a high risk patient before giving the orders. As usual, while sick and full of brain fog and alone, I have to become my own case worker once again and do all the follow up phone calls with 4 different Doctors. My wife went into Bay state medical as a transfer because of no beds in worcester area with a t-12 fracture and died in Bay state hospital 30 days later no not covid-19. Nurses were the worst I have ever deal with and the doctors well lets say were afraid to address the cranky nurses and when confronted with a patient with multi-medical issues that have to be address every day these HERO NURSES AND QUAKS drs. ARE LAZY AND COULD CARE LESS, Dr. Alexander hates any body over 50 and you will get worst with him so be careful YOU WILL DIE THERE. Well not sure what to say. Went to ER with extreme vertigo. Was left for dead in ER with no less than 6 different doctors asking me the same useless questions falling on deaf ears After the first 16 hrs in hall way. They moved me to a " better hallway" for another 8 hours. 23 hours before I even got into a observation pod. I Then they ordered iv and medicine which took 7 hours the come. This place is so bad. The nurses are angry and so upset , all you hear is them complaining about how bad it is , While your throwing up your guts out on the floor. The doctors are so mindless, it amazes me they even went to school. I mean I googled my own treatment while lying there dying. I'd rather go to the Downtown Mogadishu hospital in Somalia with yellow fever and rusty wheelchairs....This place is awful. I Spent 28 hours there was given Dramamine and cat scan. So let's recap! Suffering And 23 hours of hallway care with no food , no bathroom help had to pee in a bottle and hold it out like Gatorade bottle someone to help empty it , no food , no water , no help , code yellows on The load speaker constantly. If we could give zero stars we would. My niece is in labor here and we have had such a poor experience with the nurse team. The mood is very negative and the staff is very dismissive when you ask a question. Although we have been here since 1am and are only 1 of 2 families here, a particular nurse told us we couldn't wait in the EMPTY waiting room because it was for surgical patients only. Even though there are none. Furthermore we were sitting quietly 3 at a time in the patient room-as allowed when the mid-wife came in and began chatting to us, the same previous nurse came in and asked her if she needed help because she heard LOUD voices? If I could give a zero or lower I would. Worse experience ever and will be filing formal complaint. Choose to go to Baystate so it would be easier for my drs in mass to access reports if needed. I have chronic back pain and had a recent flair up, after a few days and not able to see my dr my Pcp recommended to be seen at er. I arrived at 215 pm in extreme pain unable to walk they wheel me in, check vitals bp extremely high due to pain. They wheel me in corner of waiting room where I wait for 3 hours (sitting n wheel chair which is the worse for lower back pain). They finally call me and wheel me to OUTDOOR make shift area, yes outdoor covered areas that was freezing. I mention that it was freezing as they wheel me in a stall, response "I know, sorry". They ask me to sit on bed umm at this point can't move because I had been sitting for three hours in extreme pain. Finally get in bed, if u want to call it that cot more like it with no blanket or pillow. Remember I said I was cold shivering and all. Las to knew that was very helpful for my back pain and spasms. No vitals taken again, asked 4 times for blanket, finally came with a blanket. No tests performed. Gave me diazepam and lidocaine patch at 645. No relief. Came back at 8 asked if it helped nope not at this point. When mention I was still closed and I was to the touch er dr said u don't feel cold and walked out. Came back gave me another diazepam which I didn't want because the first didn't help and I just wanted to go home to shower feom being In the most unsanitary, filthy uncaring place they call bay state hospital. No assistance walking out, lord knows I did everything in my power not to touch or fall there DISGUSTING!!! Happy to be home, clothes thrown immediately in the laundry and shower taken with help for carry friends unlike the staff and bay state hospital in Springfield Massachusetts read more

We went in today to the pedi ER and that's mostly what my review will be for. Auhhh-Mazzzz-Ing! My youngest has had a chronic cough for 4 weeks and the doctor kept saying "oh it's just a cough" and had us on our way. As a parent I knew there was something wrong. We came here (mind you the day after we went to her doctor) and explained my frustration to the nurse at checkin. There wasn't anyone else in the waiting room and they whisked us right into the ER. The physician saw us within 5 minutes of being there and was very thorough- we were diagnosed and out of there within an hour! My daughter's feeling much better too! I was here w/ my friend who was having surgery. I saw nurses dragging the tips of IV bags (the part that goes in someones arm) on the ground and one of them was dangling it into a trash barrel- with it touching the side of the barrel before giving them to people. One nurse did not teach adequate post-operative care (at all) which has lead to major complications for my friend. Horrible experience- I would not suggest this place, at all. read more

The worse ever. Over 12hrs just sitting doing nothing. The worse ever. They must get paid from your insurance to keep you in the waiting room . Doctors are horrible they don't call patients at all i say for 7hrs before I saw one person get called from my lobby. They will NOT meet your accommodations and will probably let you die. I'm not even joking. Everyone is miserable and wants to go home and most people they are just gonna give you a Tylenol and tell you to walk it off. You only earn the Tylenol after you sit for over 7hrs. The waiting time is lying saying 30mins it should be 12hrs minimum. The doctors will just kick you out if you don't do what they want, regardless to medical risk. Read low reviews first! More realistic. Take it from me I've been dealing with this since I was young. May 7, 2016 about 5pm my nephew was born. This was my sister's first child and I haven't given birth before either, so we didn't know what to expect. The experience was overall amazing! I live on the other side of the state, but I kind of want to deliver at this hospital too if there is a chance I will have nurses who were as patient, calm, and nurturing as the ones that helped my sister. My sister was supplied with everything she needed to be comfortable, she was taken care of and assisted around the clock, and she was able to keep my nephew in the room with her the whole time. The one reservation that I had was that when my sister was fully dilated and the baby was literally pushing himself out, the doctors told her not to push and to wait for them to deliver 2 other babies first. That is why I only gave 4 stars because I don't think that someone who's ready to deliver should hold in their baby like it's a bowel movement or something. read more

Avoid - like your life depended on it. My son was misdiagnosed - Arrogant doctors and nurses. After 24 hours in ICU I grabbed a wheel chair and took my son out - NO ONE questioned me - not even security. This place should have their medical licenses revoked. I took him to Dartmouth Hitchcock and they preformed the surgery that the doctors at Baystate said my son did not need. The radiologist at Dartmouth said my son's shoulder would have healed 1.5 inches short if I followed the care plan from Baystate. Then to add insult to injury the billing department can't set up a payment plan. Do yourself a favor just drive to another pediatric ICU. read more

Do not recommend AT ALL. Our father has been in and out for a few weeks and the staff is just not "with it". I do realize the staff gets busy but he was allowed to BM and urinate all over himself because he pressed the call button and nobody came. (Unacceptable !) The nurses/techs/and departments don't seem to keep up with each other and aren't on the same page . Whiteboard in room isn't updated regularly .ie: NPO (nothing by mouth) still on board when doesn't apply , no Dr name on board at all. They definitely take there time touching base with the patients regular cardiac Dr , etc ....to help assist with in going care . Today we come in and the "welcome" staff is falling over themselves to help assist visitors. Wish they'd put that energy into patient care ! We're probably going to take him out of here and go straight to Boston! The whole nonchalant attitude the nursing staff gives is just disappointing and frustrating . They act angry when you have questions .When they do finally ask how they can help you , they immediately give you a breakdown of THEIR busy day ,so you feel like you're adding yo their hardship and shouldn't ask for anything ! (The one bright spot is the exceptionally friendly and smiling tech who withdrew blood . She was super sweet and compassionate to him .:) Overall , we're fed up with this circus. I know that this review will be deleted because I've been watching this page for months and noticed that when anybody post anything less than a five star review that the d' amour center deletes it because they don't want their reputation to reflect the actual quality of care being distributed there. If you're really lucky your oncologist will even bring up your four star review in a meeting with you, then Dr. Myers tells me that that's not the place for me because if I don't feel a good sense of communication and a good relationship with my surgeon then the whole plan is less likely to work right from the beginning. So the cancer center sends home letter that says join us on Facebook so I go to their Facebook page I leave a four star review after a month and a half of them having me jump through hoops of fire and in my appointment on Tuesday Dr. Myers decided she didn't want to be my provider because I didn't leave a five star review and I said publicly I felt minimized. She acknowledges that I'm leaving the Demore cancer center with more problems than I came with meaning testing that was done through other specialists that were reviewed by Dr. Myers reflect that my body is in worse shape and their are finding that they were unaware of when she first initiated the surgical process took my blood, took my labs, had me signed consent, and gave me scrubby's to go home and wash up with before surgery. And then two months after my first initial contact with that center they decided to scrap my surgery because I didn't leave a good Facebook review I didn't leave excuse me a five star review I left a four star review and stated I thought minimized. When Dr. Myers sat down with me with her assistant Teresa a.k.a. Missy and they brought the Facebook page up to my attention I then brought up email I had emailed to her and she said I will email address that you have is incorrect I then brought up all the phone calls that went on returned about questions I had she was only concerned about the Facebook post and she thought she was going to catch me like a deer in the headlights about it I think her for reading it because I said that there would've been no communication at Shiatzy not read that she had not read my Facebook post and she wouldn't have realized how she were treating me so she discharged me from the cancer center and referred me to Mass General because I have problems that need to be fixed.. So intern at my appointment with her on Tuesday of this week she proved my point 1000%!! Her Facebook reputation and your online reputation are more important than her actual ability to want to help people, she never was going to help me from the beginning she always had her own agenda and it wasn't to help me as a patient it was to Healthline her pockets as a doctor. The fact that I have been sent to now another hospital to have that rectocele the pelvic prolapse and the endometrioma removed towards fixed and dealt with goes to show how 100% that I was correct when I said that I was being minimized. I've copied this review and I will be sure to post it on healthgrades, vitals.com, yelp and any other word-of-mouth service on the Internet that you can't be biased about, & that you can't mislead people about what kind of car, service, compassion, communication, and knowledge to expect from this establishment. It is unethical and it is very morally wrong to only show reviews that are five stars and above if you can't accept that some people don't have a five star experience at your center then you need yourself to get psychology support to be able to deal with the fact that your reputation cannot be governed by biased social media. It can only be controlled through your actual interactions AND treatment of people. I would never recommend sending any of my friends families or enemies to this D 'Amour cancer center not if they have to deal with Dr. Myers. Dr. Dillon is a much much better provide, if you have no other choice but to use that facility. I'm very very blessed that I was smart enough to use Facebook in order to express what I as a patient have suffered through while in the care of the D amor cancer center apparently giving a four star review was enough to get my surgeons attention. Nothing else did but FacebooK. Not my abnormal labs not my abnormal testing and not the pelvic mass which I've been suffering from for a while none of my physical suffering got my surgeons attention but God for bid I get on Facebook and say I thought minimized and only get four stars that got her attention. I had to go in for a week over night EEG. Testing. It was the most horrible thing I could experience. I had this agreement with my not to use Clomodian glue.This Dr Phillips HSU and his assistant pressured me so much to use this glue that they know. Gave me a asthma attack and I had a seizure attack on the table the first time it was used on me. I forgotten my asthma pump and they wanted me to use a pump with white dust , that goes in the back of your throat. I'm not use to that.I was told by the hospital staff that I couldn't get my regular pro air pump , that the pharmacy didn't have it.So I called the pharmacy in the hospital she said yes they do have it .Her hand is on it right now.So when the Dr and his assistant came back in the room I called the pharmacy again put her on speaker and repeated the question do she have the pro air she said the same thing . I said thank and ask them both why did you lie. This doctor begins to yell dismiss his assistant and said you don't bargain here its not your way.I say needed my pump I have 6 kids to go home to and who are looking for me to come home. He said he wasn't getting no reading from the lids from the paste on my head , I said I don't know why my daughter had it done with paste.That Dr gotten reading this Dr gotten so hot headed yells and said the testing is over.And said you can leave and go home. We had a great experience at the ER on Friday Dec 28th around 6pm, except for comments from the check in nurse. I brought my daughter to the ER for a broken arm. When the check in nurse heard we suspected her elbow was broken she told us that typically doctors dont immobilize broken elbows because they want the patient moving the elbow around. We almost walked out feeling that there was nothing that could be done for her. The xrays proved what we suspected, a break. And her doctor saw her splinted wrist and unattended elbow and said, 'this wont do at all!' Her doctor splinted both her elbow and wrist and put her in a sling. I am so glad we stayed otherwise should would have had went home for a 3 day weekend with no protection for her broken elbow. We dont think check in nurses should be making a diagnosis or influencing whether patients should stay in the ER for treatment or not. Fortunately I had seen elbows splinted and casted and suspected she was wrong. She did get good care once we were seen. I felt fortunate. We were in and out in 3.5 hours. But people who were waiting when we were waiting were still there waiting after we left. I think they expedited my daughter due to seriousness of her injury. read more

The Cancer Center has been amazing for my Mother's care since being diagnosed with stage 4 throat cancer. 5 years later she is still working on recovery and they still treat her as a priority. I have had not-too-pleasnt experiences with their ER Triage in the past, but this time, they were pretty awesome. Hospitals used to make patient's family feel unwanted. Leave at 8pm, you are in the way, the doctors didn't listen to us mortals. But this hospital makes you feel like you are part of the healing process. i am a pharmacy technician. i call baystate ER in regards to an RX we recieved. i got Rosemary in reception. when i say this was the most unpleasant and RUDE experience for just a simple question for a doctor, im not kidding. at one point she asked me "are you a pharmacist?" i reply "no" she said "good, i would be scared." i was appalled at how i was treated. extremely unprofessional. she needs training on how to speak to other professionals! i even let the doctor know that called me back, how rude she was to me. arguing over something she had no clue about. i get it, the ER is probably super stressful. but that DOES NOT give anyone an excuse to be downright disrespectful to others! yikes. read more

I was unfortunately a patient at Baystate ER. The care that I received was horrendous. I went into cardiac arrest and if my sister did not intervene, I would be dead. It was a horrifying experience for me and my sister. Thank God that she is a Nurse Practitioner and had been a Critical Care Nurse for 25 years. She ran the code for me. I always heard that Baystate was the place to go, but now I would never return to the ER. The care I received in the cardiac and step down unit was fantastic. read more

I had a horrible experience. I'm disappointed. In August I had successful right hip replacement (7th floor) wonderful nurses and doctor. Went back yesterday for left hip replacement. Left me waiting to get into my room because it was being cleaned. Once in the room I waited for two hours for a replacement bed because the one in my room didn't work. Replacement came and turns out the original bed wasn't plugged in. Pre-op nurses were excellent as were recovery room nurses. The recovery room nurses were very apologetic because the 7th floor gave my room away while I was in surgery so I had to languish in the recovery room for 3 hours while I waited for my new room to be cleaned. Surgery was at 10:00am and successful. I'm happy about that. Once I finally got to the room at 3:00pm I was told if I passed the PT testing I could go home. I passed PT testing at 4:00pm. PT nurse helped me get dressed as she was satisfied with my progress. They said it would take 30 minutes and I'd be leaving, all they needed to do was arrange my release. I was met by a homehealth administrator who set up visits. Then a hospital administrator also came in we talked about my release. She left and I waited patiently. Pushed the call button to double check at 5:30pm. No answer. I did however hear the nurses singing Happy Birthday to someone. At 6:00pm I called down to the main hospital info desk and explained that I was waiting to be released but their was no sign of any nurses on the floor. I asked them to page my surgeon. As I was hanging up a nurse came in the room saying "Excuse me, excuse me" because she had either been listening at the door or just happened to pass by and heard my complaint. I said, "oh, so now you come, after a complaint?" She was indignant so I was also indignant. After I yelled about "sitting around for two hours waiting to go home" she yelled back "why are you doing this?" I said (even louder) "you've been ignoring me for two hours. You all ignored me and that is why I did this. I buzzed and no one came. I am waiting to go home" she said "you can't go home until you pee and we give you another iv of antibiotic." I said "I already peed. I buzzed to get someone to come so I could pee again, that was two hours ago, no one ever came." That was also the first I heard about the antibiotic, no one told me. I said, "give it to me in a pill and send me home" the yelling drew a few other nurses in and a very nice nurse explained that there had been a lack of communication and I needed to stay past 7:00pm. I was livid. "Why didn't anyone tell me at 4:00pm?" She said "she was sorry but didn't know why no one told me." So during all this yelling someone called security on me and I told the security guard that I was not a threat but just a very angry old lady who thought she was going home two hours ago. He laughed and went away. I was forced to take the iv and never left until 7:30pm. I wouldn't have made it to the pharmacy to pick up my pain meds if it wasn't for a young nurse that remembered me from August and knew I was not an unreasonable patient. She was getting off duty and took me in a wheelchair to the pharmacy and then to my ride home. I had to hug and kiss that wonderful young lady and I thank God that she was on duty that day. I will NEVER EVER go back to that hospital again. read more

They left my 82 year old mother in a stretcher in the ER for more than 39 hours after just having a stroke. She was moved into the hallway for most of this time. They left her wet for hours, and tried to tell me that her loss of speech (total loss), double vision and inability to swallow was from a UTI?? Of course, the MRI showed differently. This hospital should be ashamed of the way that they treat their patients and they way they assume that the family members are ignorant. I have medical training, and I knew he was full of crap, but didn't lead on.... just insisted on an MRI. Also, on a different occasion we came in at 4pm and she was left in a wheelchair in the waiting room overnight until 9:45 the following morning. That wait time is completely unacceptable. I wish there were other options for real medical care in Western Massachusetts. Because of my mothers health issues, we have no choice but to deal with the incompetence. read more

At approximately 8: 40 pm on Wednesday July 20, 2016, I was bedside with my father who was admitted to Bayside Medical Center on Saturday, July 16 with cardiac arrest transferred from Berkshire Medical Center. Earlier this day, my family was told by neurologists that my father has little chance of survival and that we should make a decision as far as his care. Hours earlier, my family had decided to set a date to take my father off life support. We decided it would be Thursday, July 21 at 10 am. Lindsey was the night nurse assigned to my father. My father jerked up about 6 inches from the bed then was making a gurgling sound that he had never done before. I immediately paged the nurse. No response. Another 15 minutes passes. Again, my father jerks up about 6 inches from the bed then makes a gurgling sound. I again tried to page the nurse. No response. I even raced outside to the nurse's station. There was no one there. At 9 pm, my father's blood pressure was then automatically was set to check his vitals every hour. His blood pressure spiked to 167/103 from 119/102, and his heart rate had gone as high as 134. Approximately 9:05 pm, Lindsey finally comes to the room. She asked what the problem was. I told her I tried to page her 3 times. She said with a bit of an edge that when you push the machine it only pages once. I told her that the point was I'd been trying to reach her for quite some time because of what I'd witnessed. She cut me off and talked about the involuntary jerking that occurs with his condition. I explained to her that what I saw was different from what usually happens with the jerking. She was dismissive again, asking me to look at the way his lips were moving and that it was probably neurological. Again, I tried to explain to her that what I witnessed was not what we were looking at in this moment. I again repeated what I witnessed. She said that because she didn't see it she couldn't say what it was. I again repeated what I had witnessed, and asked her if that was neurological. She asked me, with an attitude, would you like to speak to the doctor. I again repeated what I had witnessed and just asked her to answer my question. She raised her voice asking if there was a problem. I told her, again, that I am just trying to get an answer to my question. As I was speaking to her, she began to ignore me, speaking to the person behind me. I said to her, "Excuse me, I am speaking to you." She then began yelling at me, letting me that she was taking care of my father, and that is all I heard, because I was incredulous that under the circumstances that this woman who is paid to take care of my father was actually standing inches from my dying father yelling at me. She then demanded, again yelling, for me to step out of the room. I told her I was leaving to make a phone call, not because she asked me to leave. I then called my brother to come immediately to the hospital. I then paged Jody at Social Services to report her outrageous behavior. I returned to the room and the doctor then came into the room. I explained to him about Lindsey's behavior. He apologized, saying that should not have happened to me, then he calmly and clearly answer my questions. I told him that I would be reporting her behavior, that she should be fired for her outrageousness, and that I no longer wanted her to be taking care of my father. He obliged and we were assigned Lori, who is wonderful, loving, and answers questions. Under the circumstances, it is absolutely outrageous in the last moment's of my father's life, I was treated in this way by this callous and unfeeling nurse named Lindsey. I do want to add that I received a return call from Jody at Social Services and contacted the people who to follow up with. I filed a report against Lindsey with her immediate boss, the head of all nurses, and was quite pleased with the immediate response I was given. The head of nurses actually came to meet me to sit down with me and hear first hand what happened, as well as providing a compassionate ear to our experiences, and assuring me that the situation would be addressed. Thankfully, after that horrific nurse, from that experience forward, the hospital made sure we were given the best of care with the most compassionate and caring nurses and staff. The next day, we were paired with a wonderful nurse named Helen who was so loving and kind it really began to lighten the horrific way we'd been treated. She made sure she knew everyone in the family's name, gave us hugs of reassurance, and even gave us gifts at the end of her shift. Then we were moved from the ICU to the oncology unit. We had two excellent nurses named Laurie and Deb who treated us with compassion, care, and love. When my father passed away, Deb grabbed me and told us, "I really love you guys." Rachel Hamlet told us to go to the ER at 4 pm and she said we would only be evaluated. When I got there they got me a room but they didn't do absolutely anything except a shot of 2mg morphine and it did nothing. I asked for a shot for muscle spasms and they didn't give me a shot. They then told me they were going to admit me and that wasn't going to happen because I told them I'd rather sit home and suffer. The reason is because she said she was going to prescribe me steroids which I'm allergic to and she said no I'm not when it's in my records. And then they said you can't leave until you sign these papers saying you refused to be admitted. "If not we won't get you a wheel chair". Then when we were walking out they followed behind us to see if i had an iv in my arm even though they didn't even attempt to put a iv in my arm in the first place. Their was a security guard outside our room the whole visit. WORST VISIT EVER!! NEVER GO TO BAY STATE EVER AGAIN!!! read more
