At this location, you'll have the opportunity to learn that history, to see his guitars, and to purchase souvenirs. You'll also get the chance to see his gravesite. LOVE LOVE LOVE Indianola, Mississippi. Both dead now, my other grandparents are from a small town here, in Mississippi, so I grew up round these parts. We always loved it here, still do. So many amazing childhood memories.. the food, the people, the music.. When we visited my grandparents we alway went fishing & we always listened to Jazz. I grew up listening to local New Orleans Jazz & local blues musicians like the "King of the Blues" BB King. All the jazz greats like; Louie Armstrong, Billy Holiday, Albert King, Freddie King, Arron Neville etc., I have every Nina Simone album ever made & LOVE LOVE LOVE Tab Benoit ohmygosh so so many greats from the river delta down to New Orleans. That's why they call it the "legendary Blues Highway" from Nashville, Tennessee to New Orleans, Louisiana. It is a actual Route, highway 61 between Memphis & Vicksburg, just gorgeous. On this "legendary Blues Highway" you will find the beautiful southern town of Indianola, where the BB King Museum is located. BB King was born September 16, 1925, on a cotton plantation in Itta Bena, Mississippi, near Indianola. He started playing guitar in the church & went on to produce over 50 albums, which I have all of them. The BB King museum is a must visit. It is an interactive museum where you can listen to his music & learn about his life in the river delta, the jute joints he used to play on the "blues highway" from Memphis to New Orleans. And you can see his trademark black guitars "lucille" all over town. They even have one out front showcased in the garden. BB King is also laid to rest there, you can visit his burial right on site. "The thrill is gone" was one of his best, however, the thrill of his guitar playing, his legendary music will live on & on.. The BB King Museum is a must visit museum if you're in the Mississippi Delta! I was able to find a Groupon for my group of 4. It also included a credit for the gift store, and I purchased a nice t-shirt along with some other items. Note that the museum does not allow you to take pictures once you're in the actual exhibits. The grounds are beautiful so you'll be able to take some nice pictures outside. I suggest going in a cooler month because it will be too hot to enjoy the grounds in the late spring/summer. read more

We have always heard about B.B. King, but it was such a great visit to the museum dedicated to honoring the King of the Blues. Obviously, his music talents took the world by storm. People from all walks of life love his music. Upon entering the museum, there is a cafe to the left named after all of his guitars, Lucille. You can buy souvenirs, get a cup of coffee and chat with the staff. The first stop was to see a short video/film of B.B. himself. After that, we walked down the hall that had "everything" B.B. King. It's nice to know he didn't blow all of his earnings on useless stuff like cars, jewelry, etc. There were two cars and his tour bus on display. The Grammy Awards and other achievements are displayed. B.B. King was truly a big part of "The Blues" music. read more

Amazing experience at the BB King Center, wonderful stop while on the blues trail in MS! The bldg, museum, gift shop and the music hall were a bit overwhelming with info. I started in the gift shop for tickets, the wonderful staff gave us a tour of the music hall, which used to be the original bldg, they now use it for events thru out the week. Wishing I had more time to stay for some blues music. They did leave quite a bit of the original bricks so visitors can see. Amazing art work thru out the hall from locals in the area. Just to be inside the hall was a treat in itself! Next we bought tickets for the museum which was a lot of history, I lost track of time absorbing so much history that day. They great videos, audio, and lots of informative info along your journey. We went on a Friday early AM and only a few people, which was nice. Don't forget to go outside to see his grave site. Hats off to the donators, staff, museum, and director you all have done a fantastic job!! This is a must for all blues fans, Im officially a fan now!!! read more

I couldn't possibly overstate what a wonderful museum this is. First of all, upon entering, we were greeted by the director of operations, Robert Terrell. He is clearly passionate about music, the blues, BB, and the museum- you could just see how proud he is, but not in a boastful way. We enjoyed easy camaraderie and spent a good deal of time talking to him. That is to say, though the museum looks small, there is so much to take in and, frankly, we stayed till slightly after closing. But, formalities seem to be cast aside, Robert didn't mind at all. It was like we were being welcomed into his home. When we were done he took us outside to show us the beautiful monument erected in memory of BB. We could've continued talking if it hadn't been time to hit the road. Will definitely return! read more

This museum is a must for any Blues Fan traveling through the Mississippi Delta. There is a short film at the beginning which is very informational and inspirational. The museum is informative and really gives you a history of not only BB King but also gives you insight into what drove the man to become an International Icon. You are introduced to people who influenced, helped, motivated and guided his career, and you really learn that BB King truly loved Mississippi; but especially the area around Indianola. read more

After travelling a couple of hours in the car with no cellphone reception, we finally arrived to our destination. When we first walked in, we were immediately greeted by the lady who sat in the lobby. She welcomed us to the museum and told us the layout with admissions. We received a small tour around the exhibits and even learned a few things about the legend himself. I sat in the big king chair that was in one of the exhibits and felt like a queen. I gained some insight that I hadn't known about Mr. King. He did in fact own lots of pretty guitars. read more

The BB King Museum is a very modern, well organized, and interactive museum located in the heart of Indianola, where BB King is from. Although it's a bit expensive at $15 for admission, it was well worth it. You start the self guided tour by watching a 15 minute film in a small movie theater at the front of the museum. From there, it's a self guided tour through BB's past.. from his childhood roots through his move to Nashville and the rise from there. Throughout the exhibit, there are TV's documenting BB's life with interviews from him, those who knew him, and field experts. Each one of these mini films is 5 to 10 minutes long and there is a small section to sit for each one. It's a journey - one that I enjoyed every minute of. The films were all interesting... we watched each one from start to finish (or middle to middle depending when we came upon them, as they are on a loop). I'm not usually a museum person (I did the Louvre and the Prado in under an hour) but I spent over two full hours at the BB King museum soaking of all of the history. There weren't many people there at all - maybe 2 other couples - so I do hope more people come support this museum and ensure that it can stay open. read more

The BB King Museum was very well thought out and I'm definitely glad we stopped in! Admission was $15 a person (or $10 if you have a student ID). I went in knowing next to nothing about BB King and learned so much! One of the tour guides gave us a quick overview of the museum before we toured it. The museum started off with a short film and there are several other films throughout. There's plenty to read and see as well as interactive components. I'd say you'd probably need at least 2+ hours to tour the whole thing. Another interesting feature is that BB King is actually buried in the back of the museum. The gift shop was also pretty nice. I'd highly recommend coming if you find yourself in Indianola. read more

Great time at the museum. So much history really gives a broad view of those who influenced BB King, and who in turn were influenced by him. The staff was exceptional in their knowledge and cordial and welcoming in the way they shared that knowledge. Hats off to Robert, the Museum's director, for all his hard work and dedication. We will definitely stop by again if we are nearby. We also enjoyed the Museum's affiliation with Harvest Host which allowed us the stay overnight in our camper in the museum parking lot. Fascinating museum that covers BB Kings career as well as life in the Mississippi Delta. There are interactive exhibits that allow you to explore the musical influences of BB King. Very informative film clips that capture key parts of the development of BB and his career. A number of good CDs available in the gift shop. Well worth a visit! read more

My vacations include #1 - Eating then #2 - Sightseeing. I'm not a sit on the beach and relax traveler. So, I've been to a fair share of museums. This one is really great. You start by watching a short movie and move into the museum. What I really liked is that the exhibits are broken up well between reading and watching videos. Its just the right balance. While mixed media is common in museums, following someone's life this way tells a great story. And the story is awesome! BBQ King lives on in his music. Loved learning about his work ethic in music. Dressing up, on time, professional. Exhibits took you through his career, the ups and the downs. Gave me the impression of a man committed to his music and the blues community. Fathered many children 15 I think and actually paid support on them all. Only complaint the guitars that you can play to play along with BB neither were working. You need about 2 hours to see the museum. Staff was very friendly. Entire tour is self guided. A true gem of a museum. So much history about BB King, the Blues, Gospel music, etc. Well planned and interesting. There was even live gospel music when we arrived. Also went to Club Ivory which is now owned by the museum. What an amazing trip! We learned a lot and totally enjoyed ourselves. The staff truly cares about this museum and its message. read more
