I was visiting from out of town and wanted to try something local for lunch. This was one of the only restaurants I could find that was open during the day on a Friday. It has a cool atmosphere and the service was fine. The food was mediocre at best. We ordered the mozzarella sticks for an app and they were the same as any frozen ones you get at the grocery store. Next we ordered the smash burger with waffle fries. The burger was bland. It needed more seasoning. The only way we got it down was by dipping it in ranch. Burger was alright, but I could have saved money and been equally satisfied with a Krystal. I asked the bartender if all the burgers were smashed. He said they were, this was not. Standard frozen burger tossed on a flattop (taste would suggest it's time to re-season or clean), but that was my mistake. Barkeep had about as much personality as the floor he was standing on. The kicker was the menu advertised "5 or 10" for wings, I ordered 5. Afterwards the receipt reads "1/2 pound" . (HEY JOE, hush. Quit yer lie'n, son.) If I had known beforehand, I would have grabbed a photo of these hummingbird wings. Refer the photo and imagine that bone trying to support 1oz of meat (considering the bone is .4 oz). Service was horrible. Management staff was not accommodating to simple requests. As a former employee years ago I'm absolutely shocked about how downhill this place has gone. There is bar seating and tables on the inside. Be sure to see the host to be seated on the inside.. Patio outside upstairs and down stairs on the outside. If you are sitting outside you can order at the window. There's a drink machine outside to get your refills, if u have tea you will need to call refill at the window bc the fountain doesn't have tea... A table on the inside will 8-10 ppl anything larger would have to be outside. Food is cooked when ordered and bought out in a timely manner! The macho nacho is my favorite appetizer. They have an excellent covered patio (that was playing the Women's college basketball tournament on the big screen -- bonus points for that guys!) and terrific burgers. You order at the window, and then grab a table and they run your food to you when it's done. If you ever go to Hey Joes you've GOT to request Ryan Speth! I have had Hey Joes multiple upon multiple times, while my dish is ALWAYS absolutely scrumptious, whenever Ryan Speth brought it out I swear he put magic into that burger. Whenever he told me the ranch was out, he went all the way to his car to fetch me the bottle he keeps inside. I swear the aura he brought to the bar made my trivia game better, thank you for your service. If I could give a title to this review, it would be "We should have gone to Jack's." I was very disappointed in this place, but I'll start with the positives. Hey Joe's has a nice informal atmosphere that doesn't seem forced. It was a big open space inside and a large patio outside. There's a chandelier with Christmas lights and concert posters all over. The service was also good; our server was very helpful. I was very pleased. The food though was a huge disappointed. My wife got chicken tenders, and they were literally premade chicken tenders like you would get in a school cafeteria. I got a Chicken Bacon Ranch Club Ranch Wrap. It was ok, but I didn't really taste the chicken or bacon (the only reason I knew the wrap has bacon in it was that the bacon was very crispy.) I think the ranch dressing overwhelmed everything else. I got "tater sticks" as a side. They are like a long tater tot. They were ok. My wife said the fries were good. We also got fried dill pickles as a side, and we enjoyed them, but they were nothing spectacular. I typically do not like waffle fries; however, they have seasoned waffle fries which were delicious. They offer alternative sides such as chips, side salad or pita/hummus. Since I was a kid, I've always enjoyed a good, sloppy burger. When I say the nostalgia was REAL! We both got the Joe's burger with their signature sauce and American cheese (they have Swiss and Cheddar options as well). PHENOMENAL. I had never tried a burger with egg so I did try that. I eat here every time I go on vacation to see my parents here in Cleveland, ms. I usually go to the bar when I am by myself. They have a good beer selection too including a magnolia beer that is made in Mississippi. I would get a sandwich here or a burger of your choice. There is another restaurant beside this one called the warehouse. However, service is better here and they are lot nicer and friendly. It doesn't matter who waits on me, they always have a smile. They have plenty of TVs in here too. There is a total of 6 TVs above the bar area. I like to come on Wednesdays as they have trivia night where you can win a $30 gift certificate to Hey Joes which can be used for anything here. I like this restaurant. It's almost on the rail road tracks. Nice, friendly waitresses and bartenders to wait on me every time I come in here. I can tell the bartender really likes her job as she is always smiling. There sandwiches are pretty good too but I got me a hey Joes hot dog called the mad dog. Most popular bar in town, especially among the college students, and has a great location - the first visible establishment when driving to downtown or delta state. Pretty good food, good draught beer selection. Not the best service, no liquor. I went in last Friday trying to order a burger at 9:06 but the waitress was quick to tell us that the kitchen closed at 9... so we sat at the bar to get a quick beer before going to Airport Grocery for food (their kitchen open until 10 and flexible with that time), and it took the bartender at Hey Joe's about 15 minutes to speak to us; we nearly walked out. They just added a very nice covered back patio set up with a stage, an upstairs deck, cornhole, and giant jenga. Quizo (bar trivia) on Wednesdays is always fun. Food is solid, they have a rotating burger of the month that donates proceeds to charity. Burgers are tasty. Get a double patty for only $1 more. I lived in Leland for a while so I sometimes drove to Hey Joe's for Wednesday night trivia. If you like beer, you will like Hey Joe's because they have a whole lot on tap. They do not, however, sell liquor. They have one cider that is pretty good. I am not a beer person but I like the chocolate beer that they have. In terms of food, their wings are very good. I have no idea what they season them with but they're excellent. They also have monthly specials. One month they had duck sliders with garlic aioli which were the bomb! I wish they added those to the menu. Their homemade chips are also very good. As are the nachos. I am not a huge fan of their fried hot tamales. They drown them in queso which is just unnecessary. In terms of trivia, it's fun some nights. It starts at 8 PM and usually lasts 1.5 or so hours. My biggest point of contempt is that the categories can often be *super duper* white. If you are not overly in tune with white (sometimes popular) culture, you will not be good at trivia. This is not exclusive to trivia at Hey Joe's but is just something to note if you are a person of color. read more

It's a bar that has subpar bar food. I'm not sure why I expected anything better. The waitstaff were friendly and attentive, the decor was a fun college pub style with a musical slant, the beer selection looked to be good but I did not imbibe. We ordered hummus appetizer; it was meh. The pita was over-crispy and the hummus was bland. I'd bet it was purchased and portioned. Don't bother asking for olive oil to go with it; the kitchen has none. The cheeseburger was hot but extra greasy, the chips seemed to be homemade but were stale like they were fried a few days ago. I asked if I could substitute the bun for a tortilla or pita bread but The kitchen has a no substitution policy for buns even though pitas and tortillas are on the menu. I offered to pay an up charge. It seemed like an easy request to fulfill but after checking with the kitchen the manager told me they would not make "what would amount to a new menu item for me." He did offer to sell me the "deconstructed" sandwich and another hummus and pita and I could put it together myself. No thanks; that is absurd. After two grease filled bites of the burger we checked out. So yeah probably a cool place for the college crowd to hang late night and drink but hard pass on the lunch date.
