There is no disputing the fact that their inventory is impressive; however, the level of service is on a level just shy of abysmal. After three years, I don't think that I was served by the same person twice, and high turnover and crap service is always due to a tyrannical manager/owner. I might have received a smile and a "Thank you" once, but that would have been quite some time ago. What is normal is a collection of female employees gathered in the cashier area so engaged in their conversation that a customer is an obvious and unwelcome presence. There have been numerous occasions when I went to the counter to ask about a specific product only to be completely ignored. If I dared interrupt the flow of the conversation, the result was always the same: a visible and overly theatrical annoyance. As a result, we've reached the stage where an evening of sobriety is preferable to being subjected to the tender mercies of the Blackfish Employee Perpetual Conversation Group. Our last visit was our "last" visit. I made the mistake of seeking someone's attention in the conversation ring, and each employee deliberately chose to avoid my presence, even though half of them were faced in my direction. I then brought my intended purchase back to its place of origin on its shelf, and walked out. It's a shame, as we really enjoy the Blackfish Pub, but the liquor store is risking giving the pub a bad reputation for sharing the same name.

Fours stars for a typically dull off-sales... Say what?…read more Well... I learned a valuable lesson over the weekend. That the little stores sometimes get stuck with "random" bottles of wine that they can't sell to their regulars. So there we were loading up from their limited selection of REAL ciders and we (OK, so it was Crystal H) noticed a 2005 Razer's Edge Shiraz sitting all alone on the shelf. Uh........ "Holy Sechelt", I yelped. The elusive '05 RE. That is an incredible bottle of wine that I searched out in Vancouver 4 years ago with very limited success. I miraculously found one in a BC liquor store and cellared it for three years. And when I finally opened it last year... well, lets just say there was some magic happening at the dinner table. Back to the lesson at Lighthouse. Of course I bought their lonely bottle. And it is likely that it's already peaked in taste. But who cares. What a find! Support the little guys, and you just never know what you may discover.

Although it is a bit pricier than the states, there were some pretty good sales going on. Plus the store is super organized and offers everything from local Canadian Staples like Molson Canadian beer, craft beer from local breweries, whiskey's and sake's and everything in between. Only downside is a bit lacking on the mixers. Highly recommend coming here.

On my last visit, the clerk was fully preoccupied with his telephone, tapping away madly, when we arrived at the counter with over $100 worth of purchases. Without a word from the clerk, our items were hurriedly scanned, and we were then prompted to pay electronically. During the entire process, the clerk only looked up from his phone to scan our purchases, and then just as quickly returned to his phone again. This is the abysmal standard set by this employee, and one other. So, after spending thousands of dollars over the years at this location, to be treated like I'm an unnecessary intrusion is more than a little insulting. What makes this so tragic is that there is an incredible person named Paul working there as well, and he's so kind and efficient that he's a utter marvel. However, with the two jobsworths, the contrast between the different levels of service is the equivalent of a beautiful Meissen plate stacked with a badly spoiled meat sandwich. If you're a commuter, or visitor, I would not recommend this store until they sort out their employee issues.

They showed us the "Beer Cave" in the back, which has cold beer organized by where the beer is from and there is a whole wall of beers from Vancouver, Whistler and the surrounding areas. They asked what we normally drink and pointed us to some of their favorites. There's free parking right outside the store.

The store was extremely clean and inviting, and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly (unlike some of the liquor stores in the US). The prices seemed to be a tad bit on the high side, but I'm sure the taxes and other add-ons play into that issue, although no where near as expensive as liquor in Australia (our last vacation destination).
