The place is a bit hidden but once inside its easy to use, and the staff is very helpful. Would definitely recommend.

Biddeford Bottle & Can Redemption Center

Biddeford Bottle & Can Redemption Center

When I first moved to Biddeford a year ago, I was looking into how to redeem my bottles and came…read moreacross this place on Yelp, with its single one-star review from three years ago. If it was a restaurant I would likely have avoided it completely, but for bottle redemption the stakes aren't that high, you know? So I went there and it was perfectly fine. I considered writing a positive review then, but figured I should wait a while so I had a larger body of experience to draw from. I've now been going there every week or two for a year now and its always been perfectly fine. The people are friendly and they have a cool dog who hangs out behind the counter. Sometimes they can't take one or more wine bottles because the Maine redemption label has fallen off (the redemption value in Maine is considerably higher than surrounding states, so wine bottles get special labels that don't always stay on), but I can hardly blame them for that. I just take those bottles home and recycle them the normal way. It seems like it must be an unpleasant job to work behind an open counter year round, in all weather, in a room that smells like everyone's nasty, poorly-rinsed (if at all) soda, beer, wine, and liquor bottles, but the people here do so cheerfully enough, so I'm happy to leave a tip. I'm not weirdly obsessive so I never try tallying my own total before giving them my bottles (seriously, who does that?) but I've neer found any reason to quibble with the amount I get back. If you're not someone trying to scam out-of-state bottles or obsessively fixated on tallying your own totals, you'll probably have a perfectly fine experience at this place, like I have for the past year. At one point last fall I did try the competitor across town ("Coastal Discount Beverage & Redemption"), but their wall was plastered with Trump stickers so I got a bad vibe. I guess even bottle redemption is politicized now. I have no awareness of Biddeford Bottle & Can's political affiliations, and that is another plus in my book.

I have been a customer of SPRC for years. The bottle handlers are awesome. They crank out the work…read moreand are really focused. I always tip them really well because they do such hard work. But I won't be back. Its obviously a management issue. In the last couple years it seems like half the time that I go there, during their normal operating hours, they are closed. Sometimes they'll put a note on the window saying they're closed for the day. Today was one of the many times they didn't. I have even become accustomed to calling first to see if they're REALLY open. They don't update their voicemail. Today when I called I just got a "mailbox is full" message. So I took the risk, filled up my car with bottles on this very hot day, and drove across town. No open windows. No lights. No sign. And now I've got a car full of cans and bottles. Thanks SPRC! It would be SO UNBELIEVABLY EASY for them to update their voicemail, AND put a note on the window. Maybe today it was the heat. I imagine they don't have a/c in there, and it would be an awful place to work in when its 90 degrees. I get it, BUT HAVE THE DECENCY AND COURTESY TO YOUR CUSTOMERS TO COMMUNICATE TO THEM! It has happened enough times that it is obvious leadership just doesn't care. Now, neither do I.
