The beach itself features iconic views of the twin Mokulua Islands. On a clear day you can actually see the sandy beaches on Mokulua Islands. The popular Lanikai Pillbox Hike sits right above the neighborhood for amazing panoramic coastal views. Please note: zero amenities exist directly at the beach (no public restrooms, showers, lifeguards, or trash cans). Fortunately, some of the locals have placed trash bins near the beach entry ways. Parking is easily accessible if you don't mind walking. Parking directly on Mokulua Drive and Aalapapa Drive is permanently banned. Visitors typically park at Kailua Beach Park (about 0.8 miles away) and walk or bike over. We found parking on a side road a few blocks away (didn't get towed) and we stayed for several hours.

However, we were able to find street parking in the nearby neighborhood pretty easily. There is another beach close by with restrooms if you need to wash up and clean up afterward. The beach is very shallow and clean; you can go far and still not deep. We got there in the afternoon so it will be more beautiful in the morning but even that we had a great time swimming and enjoy the beauty of the nature.

I did not know what to expect, so it was nice rolling up to a small park by the beach and being also perplexed by why there were so many chickens roaming around. Definitely had my Disney princess share of having chickens surround us while we sat down during such a beautiful, but windy day by the shoreline. Once we were done eating, some of us explored by the water and took pictures by a tree that was hanging over the edge of the water. It was a good teaser for us for the rest of the trip when it came to how the beaches would be and got me excited to see what other adventures were in store for us from this moment on since it was our first day there.

Minus stars because there are a lot of chickens and birds that will hover around you when you have food. Also, the grass was very rocky and uncomfortable to lay down on even with a beach towel. I would bring a yoga or workout mat to lay down on the next time! I love that it's only a short drive from places like Foodland, Gotz grinds and other local spots with great food!

Parking: 5/5 - Personally did not have an issue parking here there were plenty of spots available at around 10:30/11. But there is another lot a further down the road. I prefer the one that i was at however I felt like the other lot going up to Lainkai was more for fisherman and kids. Location: 5/5 I had Lainkai Beach saved on my list so going to this one was a bit unexpected but they deliver the same views and even better that there's a restroom! Restroom was super clean too With that being said it was pretty windy which wasn't a problem but know that its blowin. The sand as well is that fine white sand which is super pretty but it sticks to you so if you're not a sand person...well...you're going to have to accept your textured fate. I wish I could've stayed here longer honestly. I love the fact that there's a foodland nearby to get some lunch and lounge here. There were families of course what are you going to do but there's enough space I feel like without too much crowding. The water was a postcard blue, warm and clear and tranquil. We arrived around 11A, and both the parking lot and the beach were already slammed. We got lucky and snagged a parking stall just as someone was pulling out. Finding a spot on the sand took a little longer, but eventually we found a place to nestle. The water was beautiful. The waves were mostly soft rolling breaks with the occasional stronger set that could catch you off guard if you weren't paying attention. Overall, I think it's a great beach for inexperienced swimmers, but I probably wouldn't recommend it for families with toddlers who just want to wade near the shoreline. Those occasional waves have enough push to knock over the littles. One thing I appreciated was how well-maintained the restrooms were compared to some of the other beach parks around the island. They also have a foot rinse station just outside the bathrooms, which made it easy to rinse off the sand from our feet and slippahs before heading back to the car. Such a simple feature, but one I always appreciate. Would I come back? Absolutely. The soft white sand, beautiful warm water, and relaxed vibe make it easy to spend an entire afternoon here. Just come early if you want a fighting chance at parking.

We did the trip to Moku Popoia which was perfect for getting to experience being out on the water as well as learning about the area. KBA had everything we needed for the trip from wet bags to a shop to snag any gear that we may have forgotten. The area is a great spot to experience a cool part of the island with solid food options close by and having beach access.

Even though we have done this excursion many times, there's always a twist. On our latest adventure, we got to see five monk seals, with two of them playing in the ocean like little puppies. We had a good group and had time to do extra things on this trip. Our guide, Tupre, made it a fun and interesting tour, throwing in historical and additional wildlife information. This experience solidified our decision to book Kailua Beach Adventures on our next trip to Oahu.

Toasted Buns... Not…read moreone of the glorious spot to grab a parking spot to veg out in the sun is this spot on Kalama Beach Park but with some patience it's absolutely worth the wait. Kailua beaches are just so beautiful and this one doesn't quite show it's glory until you walk the short path...tadaaaaahhhh! Yes there is a path which most are paved until you get to the bathroom/shower area then it's all sand and which I think is a great spot to just walk and take in the view. Wide open beach with views as long as your eyes can see it's all beautiful and something that you just need to experience for yourself, I wasn't dressed properly as this was just a random visit though since I was in the area I just though to give it a try and am so glad I did, very quite and peaceful place to relax and enjoy what we here in Hawai'i are so blessed to have. Hale Koa Beach inside the Marine Corps Base is absolutely amazing!…read more Originally we planned to go to the "secret beach" inside this base, but it was so secret that we couldn't really figure out how to get there. However, Google Maps does a better job of pointing to Hale Koa Beach so we decided to go there instead. Please note that you do have to cross an airfield to get to this beach which was a little interesting. Once you get to the beach you find a few picnic tables and a few porta potties. The beach is absolutely stunning and perfect for children. The water is crystal clear and very shallow which makes it perfect for the little ones. You also get some stunning views of a mountain range in the back. I also noticed a couple of people snorkeling and paddle boarding, which looked very fun. Highly recommend checking this base out during your next trip to Oahu!

Plus there's tons and tons of coral and rocks which make it hard to go barefoot. This beach is a few short steps away from the parking lot and very convenient if you're carrying lots of beach things from your car. All in all, it is quite peaceful and safe...
