I did my research and manage to find a way by foot. It took about 10 to 15 minutes to reach this destination. My kids and I were so excited to explore slice of paradise. It's an entirely man made island where there are activities like paddle board, group canoe, kayaking, volleyball, and lounging. The only downside with the water activities here is that is limited freedom on where one can go. Is say about 75 yards on each direction. Trust me on this, YOU WILL GET CALLED BACK. However it is for your safety. All of these come with a fee of course, but since work and I were there for a wedding, it was all paid for. There is no food provided, however you CAN BRING YOUR OWN FOOD AND DRINKS, provided there is no glass brought in. It's a great place for a little get away, from your little get away and I recommend to do this while on the island. read more

We loved our experience at Secret Island! We booked a half day experience through the GoCity pass. This gave us around three hours in the morning (8 to 11) to enjoy this island. We arrived early at Kualoa Ranch to check in, where we were then led to the shuttle bus which took everyone to the island. Once we arrived, the staff explained the different activities available (kayaking and paddle boarding). There were also three tours. We went on the glass bottom boat tour for turtle watching and spotted a couple sea turtles. We also did the movie pond tour which took us on a boat ride around the Molii pond as the guide pointed out the different areas that were in movies like Jurassic Park, some Adam Sandler movies, etc. I am not a movie buff so didn't really enjoy the tour as much as the sea turtle. The last tour was a group canoe trip to the sandbar. Unfortunately we did not sign up for this one because we were worried we would not have enough time. We got to enjoy kayaking which the staff were super friendly and helpful, given it was our first time kayaking they helped instruct us. There was also hammocks available and lots of tables for everyone to put their stuff down and sit. Glad we packed our own snacks and drinks as there was no fresh food available on the island (just snacks like chips and drinks for sale). Booking through Kualoa ranch to see Secret island is a must do if visiting the islands. I was born and raised on this side of the island and initially thought why would I pay to go to the beach? But you're paying for all of the fun activities! Technically anyone could access the secret island beach walking through the sand/water/bushes through kualoa park, however you won't be allowed to use all of the Kualoa ranch amenities and activities. I did the half day option through Kualoa ranch from 8 am to 11:30 am with check in at 7:30 am at the Kualoa visitor center/ticket counter. There is a Kamaaina reduced rate for locals with your Hawaii drivers license required for the discount. I learned that you are no longer allowed to drive your personal car from the visitor center to the secret island docking area, everyone MUST catch the shuttle bus from the visitor center. This worked well since it was less stressful to just hop on the bus. The bus takes you to the secret island docking area where you catch a small boat that takes you across a 2 to 5 foot deep fish pond onto the secret island. From here we were greeted by so many different friendly employees. During my short 3 hour stay I did kayaking and signed up for all three activities which included 1) Glass Bottom Boat ride (didn't get a photo of the boat!) which takes you out to the reef to see Green Sea Turtles! If you look carefully, you'll see the turtles bob their heads in and out of the water. 2) Canoe Ride! We took a tour guide escorted canoe ride to the Kaneohe sand bar where we were able to get out of the canoe for about ten minutes. It's a fun experience to paddle a canoe if you never have before. 3) Fish pond tour - This activity was new this year, we took a small boat to tour the ancient Hawaiian fish pond where the original rock walls are just as how they were built, we learned that they harvest oysters in the pond and you can buy them at the Ranch House located next to the visitor center. Although the beach is not ideal for swimming due to the coral, this is a great beach to do all of the activities and walk on the sand. They also have a volleyball net, large connect four and some other land activities I didn't get a chance to check out. They have snacks like chips and soda/drinks for sale on the island but it is credit card or apple Pay only, no cash. If you pay for the full day, you'll get lunch, bring your own snacks for a half day. I recommend this tour if you want to try kayaking, canoe paddling, take a boat to see turtles or learn a little about the ancient fish pond. It's a nice relaxing beach day. read more

I've been here twice. The first time was for my husband's Family Day with the Army. The most recent is this four of July. We were with a group that was hosting a family day for families with Special needs children. Such a treat because we were able to bring my mom who has wanted for a long time to see secret island. She definitely made the most of the day there. It fun to go just as family but PRO-TIP: it's always more fun to go in a group so gather you friends and make a day of it! Both times we were able to enjoy the different activities in the island. From Volleyball, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, canoe ride to the sand bar, fish pond tour, lounging around in the hammocks, or playing in the water. There's something for everyone. I love that my husband and I could try out different things while watching our son, or even bringing him along for the canoe ride or the fish pond tour. Wonderful and exciting experience by Kualoa Ranch Adventures! Secret Island Beach is obviously a big tourist attraction but totally worth checking out. This location was featured in ABC's "Lost" series, including the dock that faces out towards the Ko'olau Mountains (many people actually miss this dock and don't realize the aforementioned significance of it). You do have to make a reservation via the popular tourist attraction's website and you can choose a half-day (8:00 AM start or 11:45 AM start) or a full day (8:00 AM - 3:00 PM). If you choose the full day, lunch is included. After checking in at Kualoa Ranch's ticket office, you can either drive yourself (and your group) to the designated parking lot next to the dock or you can catch their bus shuttle. There are plenty of activities you can do, such as stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming or wading in the waters, or simply relaxing at their many benches, picnic tables under the tents, beach chairs, or several hammocks. Other activities you can also sign up for include beach volleyball, cornhole games, and ping pong. Plus, there are larger group activities one can sign up for like canoeing to the Kaneohe Sandbar in the outrigger (make sure you are willing and capable of paddling!) and their glass boat. Also helps that the island has plenty of shade and trees around. Changing stations and restrooms are also available on the island. The three hours I spent in the morning did go by too quickly, I must admit. My only issue is the beach being on the rocky side and possibly hurting or cutting your bare feet, so best to wear sandals when possible. Great experience from Kualoa Ranch. I knew this place based off the Hollywood movie tours but was presently surprised about the secret beach adventure. I initially thought that it would be on the site of check in but we actually had to drive back up Kamehameha highway to a private well worn road. The quality of the road had me second guessing at first but when we arrived to the parking lot we saw that there was quite a picturesque view of the pond on the backside of the island. From there we were driven across the pond to the secret beach island. Really enjoyed the location and how secluded it was on the backside as it opened up to the beach with just a mind boggling number of activities to participate in. We ended up doing the glass boat and the canoe to the sandbar. While the glass boat didn't have much animals to see, the staff was great and very knowledge telling us about the locations we had seen in various movies. We did the canoe to the sandbar which involved us and various other beachgoers paddling to the sandbar. This was super fun and I wish we could have stayed out their longer but its as fun nonetheless. Getting back to the island themselves there are a lot of different activities to participate in such as paddling and kayaking. There was just so much to do at this location that we didn't really give ourselves a moment to relax. I consider this pretty great and thankfully doing half day in the morning, it was not busy at all! read more

We had heard about the Secret Island from some reviews, but we're happy to learn it was owned and facilitated through Kualo Ranch. Yes, you have to make reservations for either a 1/2 day or a full day; and yes, you have to pay for it. But, if you have the time and the means we thought it was super cool! Off the beaten path of the usual tourist areas the entrance is through a private driveway; followed by a very very short boat ride to the island. Once there they have it equipped with Kyaks, Paddle Boards, Beach chairs, a few Sand Volleyball courts, Ping Pong Tables, Covered Picnic Benches, and other activities like a glass bottomed boat to view the reef and sea turtles, and another boat to go check out the sand bars. This adventure is really more for families or people who aren't just looking to chill. We didn't feel like paddling a SUP, kayak or canoe. I signed up for the outrigger, but bailed when I realized I had to paddle. The views were great, lots of shade, bunches of picnic tables and we swung in a hammock for a while... but the price may dissuade you if that's all you want to do. OK, it may not really be "secret" but this place is amazing! Go early and maybe not on a weekend to avoid the crowds. We went on a Saturday morning at 9am and were among maybe 10 other people. Not bad at all. We booked through Kualoa Ranch, who provides transportation to and from the island from their center just up the road a bit. You get dropped off right at the dock where you take a short boat ride across the water to the island. There are floating bathrooms that are actually very nice. (When I was here a couple years ago, they were just porta potties, but they have definitely been upgraded.) On the beach, there are plenty of activities to keep you entertained. You can also relax on the beach in a hammock or on beach chairs. Beware that there are native chickens and roosters roaming about, so don't leave any food unattended. Also, prepare yourself to be awakened by the "cock-a-doodle-do" of a rooster who notices that you're taking a nap. I'm certain they get their entertainment out of doing that. If I could build a little fort here on the island and keep it to myself, I'd be moving here next week. But for now, I'll just have to settle for occasional vacations to my little "secret island." read more

Wow....first time there and it was breathe taking. I was hired to do a wedding there and I was like, where did this place come from?! It is located in the Kaneohe area closer towards China Mans Hat. All the plants and trees were green with a big body of water making it look like an isolated island. There's a pier that goes out pretty far in the ocean. Lot's of wild life everywhere from big barracudas in the sea to flocks of birds flying across the sky. A perfect scenery for a wedding. They had a 40' × 100' tent holding 200 seats for guest. There's restrooms nearby and plenty of parking for cars. We entertained the guest with DJing and some strolling magic throughout the event. Everyone had a good time. The food was catered from Waiahole Poi Factory with terrific Hawaiian Food. The dessert was incredible kulolo ala mode. It was so good I went back for seconds, lol. I would recommend this place for any event, but be prepared for weather conditions if it doesn't go your favor. read more

Secret Island is nice for multiple activities and since the campsite was not being used during quarantine, it was very quiet. Some days, I went to the piers to take graduation photos, and enjoy the view of the fishpond and mountains. Other days, I would look for hermit crabs on the rocks. Many many different types of shells to be found in the sand. The walk to the pier can be shortened by crossing the grassy area rather than walking along the beach and sand. A good amount of people are usually there, so remember to bring a mask and social distance. Nice around for families with children read more

Perfect picturesque view and calming ambiance. The calming part was mostly bc I got to enjoy the amazing views while working so it didn't feel like a full day of work, more like a paid mini vacation. I spent the day of work here and the employees were absolutely wonderful, so kind and easy to talk with. Every year (for the past 7 years) Kapolei High School takes their Seniors here for sneak away. The staff are always helpful and ready to provide the students with a fun and relaxing experience. There are many activities to do: swimming , horseshoes, volleyball, tree swing, corn hole, kayaking, canoeing, glass bottom boat, fire pit, etc They have showers, lots of changing stations, hammocks, and tented seating areas. Probably the worst experience I've had on Oahu. The employees were nice to all of us. So one star for customer service. BUT why they would still run this tour on a cold rainy day and deny a refund before the tour started and then deny a ride back to shore earlier is absurd. We were literally stuck on this "island" during a rain storm with heavy wind we couldn't even go into the water or do any activities. Paid $115 a person for a total waste of time. On a good sunny day I can see myself spending tops 2-3 hours here. But then fighting for their equipment and chairs etc. Since it was raining cold and windy everything was available but trying to use anything was dangerous with the weather and current conditions. We had planned to visit secret island with my family, to celebrate my cousin's birthday. I'll start sharing my experience from the get-go...reservations. I booked and paid for my reservations online. My fellow locals, the site asks you to select where you have hotel accommodations, and the drop down is very long. At first, I did not see the "Kamaaina" option so I booked it at the regular rate. I was later told by my other cousin whom booked their tickets via phone, that they DO have a local rate. So I called Kualoa Ranch, it was after hours so I left a message. I expected a call the next day during the opening hour, still no call. So at around noon, I called them to see if they got my message. No acknowledgement about the message, but they said they would refund the difference when I show them my ID at check in, which they said would take 5-6 business days which I was fine with. Oh in case you're wondering if you can actually reserve Kamaaina rates online, yes you can! I referred to the website again, low and behold...you have to scroll down all the way to "K", to select "Kamaaina". Tsk Tsk tsk, this should be more visible and should not be an option listed under hotel accommodations, daaaah! It would've definitely saved all the hassle. The day of our family fun day brought 20 of us together on a short road trip to Secret Island. When we got there we were running a little behind schedule and so I called ahead to let Kualoa Ranch know, which they said was fine. As we were standing on line to check in, there were three people on the computers, two were helping customers. There were only four of us in line, three in my party. There was no acknowledgement from the staff. Disappointing. When one person was done helping a customer, she walked away from her computer and went over to another lady who just finished helping a customer and started talking story, completely ignoring us. Another disappointment. Finally when the third employee was done jamming on her keyboard, she looked up and helped us one by one. By the time the three of us had checked in, the other two employees were still off to the side talking stories. We decided to park at the secret island dock since we had many little ones and a lot of stuff with us. The tour guide was a really tall Samoan man, who was super friendly, and appeased the kids. When we got to the island another employee came with an ATV and suggested we put the kids, coolers and bags in his trailer. It was fun for the kids I guess, but I was anxious and worried. We made the mistake of waiting to pee, we ended up having to use the portable toilets, which sit on what looks like a small floating barge with its own motor, that's secured to the dock. The toilets were as expected, filthy! When we finally got to the beach side, it was awesome, like our own private oasis. There was a lot to keep you entertained, volleyball, hammocks to relax, swings, ping-pong, tented picnic tables, kayaks, paddle boards, sand toys for the kids and of course the ocean. They provide life vests of all sizes which you have to wear if you're using the boards and kayaks. We had 2.5 hours of awesome fun! When it was about time to leave, most of us were in the water and he staff yells out that we had 15 minutes to change. We quickly packed up and by the time we got to the boat, there was no where to sit. We sat at the end where there are no benches, kids, adults and even a pregnant one, we all sat there. The person who operated the boat on the way back was someone different, and he was in such a hurry to end his shift that he was going full throttle and didn't realize that the front end of the boat where we were sitting was too heavy and began to take in water. WE ALL GOT SOAKED with the muddy fishpond water. All our kids and our bags, soaked! He didn't even realize it until we started shouting. Fricken douche! When we docked, he was out of there quick with not even an apology. With no where to wash off. We all tried to wipe ourselves with sani-cloths, wet-ones and baby wipes. Some of the kids were in fresh clothes and had to change out again. After settling down and packing up the car, we drove home with the kids knocked out. Overall, the experience was awesome. I'm still waiting for my difference to be refunded BTW and next time I'm making sure that my family is sitting on the benches in that boat on the way back. I'd definitely recommend this place to visitors and if you just want to experience something new. Just make sure you use the bathroom before you get there. read more

I called 13 days before and got a date verbally reserved waited for the email to sign and make payment which is due 10 days prior to event. I called 10 days prior to make payment and was told the date had been booked up. A little upset since it was all put together late I asked for options and was told a week later was open I agreed and waited for email again received email and made payment and was finally set will do it again and make sure to plan ahead and always double check read more

Awesome little island with loads of activity. And since it's only by reservations, it's far less crowded. Which means you get to try all the activities without a long wait!! Activities Stand up paddle board - the most entertaining activity they had. It was some much fun trying this for the first time. Be sure to go out a little away from the red buoy so if you fall you won't fall on rocks. Snorkeling - this was pretty entertaining as well. There wasn't much seaside activity to be really interesting though. But I did see a green sea turtle! Kayaking - they have two people kayak, but you can ride it with one. Mom comes to visit and I finally get to do all the touristy stuff :) After reading the reviews, I was personally scared about how crowded the "secret" island was going to be. For $25.00 (Kamaiana), you really get yours moneys worth. They quickly charter you across this small body of ocean to another dock, through an awesome forest path and it opens up to an "island." There are paddle boards, kayaks, hammocks, beach chairs, volleyball nets, swings, etc. For the 2/2.5 hours we were out there, not one of the members of our group of 6 was bored. They offer glass bottom boat rides out to chinaman's hat where they point of honu and showcase Kualoa Ranch's stunning ridges. We asked for a paddle board and the host went directly to a kid playing and said "hey I need you to get off, a tourist needs it". Looking for a great place to throw a party? Secret Island is the perfect place to keep your guests entertained with stand up paddle boards, kayaks, snorkeling and everything in between. A great friend of ours invited us out to experience a day of relaxation and family fun. Everyone brought their favorite dishes and drinks. We all split up to eat, play and have fun in the sun. My daughter absolutely loved the volleyball sand pit and ping pong tables. The adults really loved the hammocks ;) The only downside would be the bathroom situation. We took the 9am tour on Saturday and it was our group of 11 and just an additional 5-6 people, which was great. We practically had the "island" to ourselves for the 2.5 hours. If it would have been more crowded, the experience would have been worse. The next boat that came over at 1130 when we were leaving was FULL. Pros: Use of Paddleboards, kayaks, hammocks (my. wife loved this the most), volleyball, ping pong, corn hole (smaller board and bags than normal). Short boat ride out to mats on the water to lay or play on Nice views, especially of Chinaman's Hat Cons: Glass bottom boat ride was in water about 2 feet deep No food or snacks, just water. This place is amazing! We booked the 8:45 slot and it was just us four and three other people so we basically had the island to ourselves! Plenty of kayaks and paddle boards to use along with sweet hammocks and tree swings and volleyball/badminton areas as well as ping pong and horseshoe games. They provided life jackets and chairs all equipment necessary. Plenty of changing rooms and showers and facilities to use. What a nice way to spend the morning! This was so fun! We were able to do a little bit of all the activities. Paddle boarding was our favorite. All of the rangers were extremely nice and helpful since we hadn't paddle boarded or kayaked before. read more

Stay away, beach is murky, tourist trap, they place too many people vs equipment (I.e. beach chairs, paddles, canoes, etc) so your always waiting for all of the above. It's a money grab. If your going to pay, they should at least make an effort to accommodate a certain ratio of people. When we went, we were part of the ranch package, but at the same time, there were 2 other tours on beach, that's about 100 people sharing a small stretch of beach. Stay away.!! read more

Have spent two hours here and wish we didn't have another hour. Not thrilled about paying $50 a piece and there are not enough beach chairs for everyone. Only three toilets as well for $150 people. They do have SUP boards and kayaks that you can share. If you have a car and get to beaches yourself, though, I would not recommend. Kualoa Ranch itself is beautiful with a rich history. But, I would not do the Secret Beach excursion again unless I had kids with me under 10 years old. read more

One of the few places on Oahu that I can feel like I am still living on Molokai. It really is remote- take a boat to go there and bring everything that you need for the day. I went there with work buddies. It is a great open day where you can go out on canoes, swim, enjoy the ocean and be in nature in general instead of inner city feeling many people have in daily life. The staff are really helpful and they love the outdoors too. I believe that a few tv shows/ movies have been filmed there and for good reason- it is a wonderful place to take pictures. I can understand negative experiences posted here from others- NOT knowing what happened but I can understand that it could be that it is a local verses tourist situation where the tourist is either given preference or the local is based on who the worker is- it is not as big as a Polynesian Culture Center where they know how to cater to tourists- Secret Island is just not that big to be able to provide better customer service. read more
