I'll say it's much better than planet fitness, but after 9:00 pm there's a lot of teens playing around wearing no shoes and people sneaking into the gym. They literally wait in the parking lot until they can follow someone in. Had to change to 2 stars. I forgot that they frequently have broken toilets. Apparently the staff doesn't wash their hands cause the soap is frequently empty. Also the water fountain has such low pressure it cannot be used unless you place your mouth on the spout.

You can sign up for a free 3 day pass online which I did. I came in, did a quick intake at the front desk with 2 really nice reps. They gave me a tour around the gym and what I REALLY liked was the women only area. That's a plus for me. They have a ton of machines for strength and cardio and those areas were mostly open but the free weight and functional training zones were packed. I prefer functional strength and calisthenics and felt like they didn't really have the kind of space I was looking for BUT if you are a bodybuilder or a fitness content creator this could be a great space for you. I didn't give 4 or 5 stars simply because it was crowded at the time I went 7-8 pm and didn't have a robust functional training area. The women area is great but the equipment in there is limited so you'll be waiting unless you go in off peak times. I also noticed that my hands were covered in black dirt after handstand drills in that room. TLDR: Pros: -cool vibe -good for fitness content creators/ PT -women only area -saunas Cons: -crowded at peak times with limited equipment -not the cleanest -lacking a robust functional training area

The front desk person was very helpful when I inquired further and she explained that since most of their clients are visitors, their equipment was getting used but they didn't receive any of the membership due money from visitors and it was really affecting them. While I appreciate this, it sounds like there needs to be more of an internal discussion within the YMCA nationwide program. We discussed some of the possible options and the easiest, though still inconvenient one, was to suspend my hometown account and then start up an account at the Bradenton Branch. However, there didn't seem to be a way to bypass the enrollment fee and so I would have to pay that and then ultimately close the membership down after my three month contract in Bradenton ends in January. It was one too many hurdles to hop over to join a gym I have already joined. While I respect that this YMCA needs to make changes so that their facility can continue to prosper, I am disappointed that a program the YMCA touts as "Nationwide" isn't really. The ability to go to YMCAs all over was one of the major reasons why my family opted to join.
