The weather was great..even with the complimentary downpour day to let the skin come off sizzle mode..just perfect. We were a large family group... family coming in from NY, NM, Ca and Germany. We pushed the limits in space but with the backyard patio area, rooftop hot tub soaking deck (special accolades to that), the ocean so close and so many places you could walk, bike, paddle to we never at all came to in your face situations... which we all know with family is usually inevitable. We wanted to do something special for our Mom (Omi) for her birthday so we took Mary Ann and Tom's referral and hired the caterer that they suggested... we did a luau theme and they came to the house with the pig roast complete with Hawaiian veges and salads. I for one was amazed that we actually surprised her but I do believe we really pulled it off. We were initially hesitant to rent because of landowners sharing the same house..but we started our search late and there weren't many options to accommodate our large group so we took the chance. Couldn't have been any farther from the fears we had to reality. Always friendly and helpful.. never intrusive or controlling. By the time we left it felt like we were leaving old friends.... the hot donuts Mary Ann brought us from an old time LBI donut shop, the morning before we left sealed the deal! Our family grew up summers in LBI..staying with friends that owned and/or our family renting for weeks at a time. I think I can speak for our family in saying we came home that week. A wonderful magical place in our memories. Lucky me got to share it with my granddaughter while my Mom (Omi) is still with us and oh so big a center of our family. 4 generations of LBI addicts.... what better place to enjoy family!

I don't consume garlic which can be difficult at an Italian restaurant. I had an alternative choice if they couldn't service my first choice, Veal Parm. The owner came over to say "hi" which was nice. It appeared to be"touch" each table with direct communication, nice touch nowadays. Well they were so gracious and were able to make an alternative tomato sauce that was delicious. We were early enough that it was neither noisy nor crammed. Service staff is wonderful. Manners(remember those days when teens had manners), friendly, checking back to make sure everything was good, tended water glasses. We received an initial salad with home made dressing 2 choices I tried the balsamic, tasty with not too heavy on the balsamic. I can't wait to go back, we all were able to take left overs, just enough to have a taste again today. The real semolina bread, delish. Arrive early and they only seat you when the whole party is there. Good idea at a popular shore restaurant. It's a BYOB I believe, they do serve wine, don't drink so didn't see the list.

I do tend to lean toward pastas with seafood, while my husband tends to order chicken or veal dishes. These come with a side dish of pasta with marinara. We are always satisfied with our meals and always have leftovers to take home. All meals come with a small salad and bread with oil with fresh garlic included. You can always add a protein to the pasta, even if it doesn't show on the menu. It's BYOB, so bring your favorite wine and enjoy your dinner!! And leave room for dessert, they always have great choices, and have coffee and cappuccino (including decaf cappuccino!!) as well.

Loved that the inn provided so many conveniences - beach chairs, towels, beach bag, bicycles, & bottled water! Compassion Cafe seeks the integration of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through hands-on training and employment in a small coffee shop environment. By providing meaningful, paid employment for teens and adults with special needs, our employees will gain independence, self-confidence, and work skills for a successful future. WHAT an incredible and moving idea. The cold brew was PERFECT and I was even able to take away some dog treats that my doggers will enjoy. It was so nice to be able to meet some of the employees, support a great cause and enjoy some delicious coffee. Kudos to Sea Shell for hosting this cafe for the 2025 season!
