After hubby and I toured Kentuck Knob we stopped by our hotel to get our golden and headed straight here. I was worried that being Father's Day that the place would be insanely crowded but there weren't many people there and since there are so many areas to park everyone that was there was pretty well spaced out. We stopped at the boat ramp area so our golden could jump off the 2 floating docks and he absolutely loved it. The water is really clean and hubby even saw a huge fish jump out of the water while our dog was retrieving his ball. This area has benches and a walkway around the lake and there are also bathrooms, pavilions and picnic tables and seems to be quite popular with the local fisherman plus it was so clean and pristine, my only regret is that we didn't find this place sooner because we would have been bringing our pup here every morning and evening. Great place for fishing, family get togethers or for a nice walk around the lake, we're actually getting ready to head back up there now.

The folks here are friendly and leave you be. Its perfectly isolated up here on the mountain. The road to get here is a pain if you have a city car but if you have anything 4 wheel drive you will love the dirt, the mud splashes, the potholes and the bumps along the *entire stretch of road to get here.

The park is on the smaller side but does have plenty of parking spaces. The trail is paved and clearly marked. I was expecting it to loop all the way around the lake but it didn't seem to. There were a few trails off of the paved path that I didn't explore. The views of the lake are very nice and there are a few benches to stop and enjoy it. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice this place was and also how busy it was. I arrived just before 10am and the place was buzzing with people enjoying the lake.

Sutton, WV was first settled in 1792 in what was then Bath County, Virginia. It served as a…read morecrucial spot in the Civil War for the Union. In the mid 1800's Confederates burned most of the town to the ground. We rebuilt. This review comes from my memoirs. Wait, I haven't written them, but, if I did, I would give at least one chapter to my teenage years spent partying and hanging out at Sutton Lake. I went to high school in Sutton, and, we often skipped school and headed for the lake for a day of fun filled drankin' and smokin' and, well, you know. The early 80's were for socializing and partying with my gang of peeps. It's amazing I graduated. That any of us did, for that matter. Everytime I go home, I always visit the lake. When I was going there in my teens, it was simply a beautiful lake enveloped by the beautiful Appalachian Mtns, with picnic areas. Sometimes it felt as if those mountains were hugging you. Today, there is much more recreation to be had, but, this review is about my memories. All through high school, this was the spot. I had a music (Jazz Chorus) teacher who knew what was going on, so he would sometimes show up and stay with us. I didn't realize what he was doing until I became a mature adult. He was our protector, not, enabler. In the 80's, where I was from, kids would be kids. No matter what ma' and pa' said. I lived 40 miles from the school. If I missed the bus, which I often did, I had to hoof it home on my thumb. Many a time I would arrive home at 2100 or later, drunk, high, sober, hungover and famished and tired, only to be met at the door with my very angry grandmother (God love her, she raised me) and a fist full of brier switches! Let me tell you, that is the best time to take a beating because you are so numb you feel nothing. It's like, "Hey! You missed a spot!" I miss those years. I like to refer to them as my "rebel without a clue years", and, I have not one regret! Thanks for letting me share my personal story!

This is a great park for walking. Just be mindful of the fly fishermen that cast their lines before…read morelooking behind them. The lines when cast are coming onto the walking path. This is happening at the end near the bridge. We have been almost hooked a few times now. Who would be liable for any injuries that might occur?

It's not the biggest lake in the area, but it's a nice lake. There is a boat launch (We have…read morelaunched our kayaks from this spot many times), and a completely new bridge over the lake with a new paved walking trail along-side of it, under it (see my photos), and partially on the other side of the bridge also (great for people that want to fish). If you get hungry, Mad Mex is right next door, lakeside, with a great deck for observing the comings and goings on the water. There is also a walking trail down to the dam, and several parking areas. One time when I was here, I saw a Bald Eagle flying over the lake, and also nesting in a tree on the shore . . . great local natural resource . . . Cheers!!!

Quiet, lovely camping nestled in a valley. Full hookups for our camper were great at every site…read more Camper sites were flat and fairly easy to navigate. Bath houses were PRISTINE and looked brand new. Our adult kids and grandkids stayed in a cabin that was very nice as well. Kitchen was well stocked, if not for the gourmet chef, then by vacation standards. We were there for hunting, so too cold to enjoy the water sports and events. It was very quiet, hardly saw campground staff, but they were readily available via text. Two campgrounds for the youngest in our group and hiking trails were beautiful. This is a steal of a campground. We didn't have much luck hunting, but the campground was a big win!
