I'm not going to lie, I was ready to walk back out the door when I walked into the check-in/ registration area. The first impression is not the best; I was glad I didn't rush out too quickly as the unit I was given was clean and comfortable. I appreciate the amenities; the units are like small apartments with full a kitchen dining space, patio and living space in addition to the typical bed/bath. You can't beat the patio view and the convenience of being so close to a beach, town and bike/walk path that takes you all the way to Nevada. If I had an opportunity to book this again, I would for the sheer location and the amenities. read more

I had an awful and expensive experience here with my dog Banksy. Upon checking in, the woman at the front desk was rude and unprofessional. I was given a disability room (no idea why). The room wasn't clean and the alarm clock was broken. The bed linens were gross and the bathroom was not clean. In addition, the staff and surrounding area was LOUD AND AWFUL at 8 am the following morning, which was a Saturday. I stayed on the ground floor, near the office. A creepy man tried to lure me into his room next door when I first arrived, there was no place to park, and people were loud and lots of foot traffic the entire time. Moreover, I found that despite the location and seemingly wonderful advertising unless you fit the stereotype of the type of person they would like staying there, you are most unwelcome. Also the room I was in did not have a security bar in the window like the rest of the rooms and the guests above me were doing WWF SMACKDOWN the entire night. I will never stay there again and do not recommend it to anyone. read more

$200 a night in June for a 180 degree view of Lake Tahoe, and a covered balcony? Imagine my surprise and delight when I was able to reserve a timeshare unit right on Lake Tahoe 14 months in advance for the middle of June. Hold it, not so fast now! We arrived Friday at 2pm, for a one week timeshare stay. Only 16 spots in the parking lot for the 21 units -later I discovered 5 reserved carport spots on the other side of the complex. Walked to registration and found our room was not ready. Drove down the road to Safeway, only a 12 minute walk, to pick up items like milk, lunch meat and cut watermelon. Came back and the room was ready. We had to walk down 15 stairs to the second level, to our studio. 12' x 19' unit came with small kitchen, dining table, sofa bed, 32" flat screen TV mounted over the gas fireplace. Kitchen had microwave, 2 gas burner stove, full size refrigerator, sink, dishware, utensils, glasses, bowls, pots, pans and coffee maker. No dishwasher. Refrigerator needed defrosting with no automatic ice maker. Minimal counter space, and a shortage of drawers to store food items. Our studio had a queen size murphy bed -it folded into the wall, and had no box spring, only a mattress on a board. The sofa bed had an air mattress inside. The studio was on the 2nd level, adjacent to the pool and hot tub. People in the hot tub could look directly into our unit through the balcony window. No AC, so we needed to keep the balcony window open with temperatures in the mid 80s all week. Kids and teens screaming and yelling in the pool, the next door pier, and dudes bellowing on the balconies, to impress their GFs! Some people never grow up. This timeshare is not for those seeking peace and quiet! 21 units on 4 levels, with registration on level 3, street level. 4 studios, labeled O, P, R, S, with up to 16 one bedroom units, and 1 two bedroom unit. The studios are all next to the pool, have a queen murphy bed and a pull out sofa bed air mattress, and sleep 4 adults. One bedroom units A, B, C, D, E, F are on lake level, about 30 stairs down from street level. One bedroom units G, H, I, J are above these units. These 10 one bedroom units have a queen bed and a sofa bed, and can sleep 4. One bedroom units K and L are on the third level, or street level and have two full size beds and a sofa bed, and can sleep 6. These would be for people who can't do stairs, along with unit T, over the swimming pool. Units M and N are above K and L, and on the 4th level, with two queen beds and a sofa bed. These are the largest one bedroom units, along with Unit Q and T. Units K, L, M, N have their own carports and are likely owner occupied during prime seasons. Studio units O and P and one bedroom Q with two queen beds are right next to the pool, and the last to rent out, due to noise issues. During our stay they were unoccupied except for our room O. Studio units R, S and one bedroom T with two queen beds are above O, P, and Q, and closest to the parking lot. We had big problems with the wifi getting connected, and it took help from the staff to reboot the router and reset the connections to get the wifi connected in the room. Place has a recreation room with pool table, guest laundry, outdoor heated swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, and work out facility. Each guest gets a single parking permit to be placed on the dashboard. Only 1 vehicle per room unit can be parked at the inn. 10pm, and no more noise from the nearby balconies, but wife can't stand the smell from the nearby communal BBQ grills, so the balcony door remains closed. At least we have an overhead ceiling fan. Can hear the upstairs unit taking a shower, and footfalls from the kids running amok. Minimal noise insulation in this 1950s design style of rectangular buildings. Sleeping on a bed without a box mattress is bearable but not as comfortable as a real bed. And an air mattress is better than a sofa bed. Some of the best restaurants in South Lake Tahoe, as rated by Tripadvisor, are within walking distance. These include Freshies, Sprouts, Heidi' s Breakfast , and MacDuff's Pub. Others like Taquera Jalisco are inexpensive but cash only. So bring lots of cash. My initial enthusiasm of getting a summer reservation here has been restrained once I found out about the 228 square foot studios, the murphy bed, noise from the adjacent pool and pier, and the lighter fluid smells from the BBQ grills. If it's too good to be true, it isn't true. A week's stay here cost me the equivalent of $1470 for a studio. Would come back only if I could get a one bedroom unit, and as far away from the pool as possible! read more

My family and I have been coming to the Beachcomber for many years and last weekend was the absolute worst! My husband and I took our daughter and granddaughter over for 3 nights and had to endure marijuana smokers two doors down and people on one side of us with multiple children who continued to run around in front of our space keeping us from having the ability to enjoy our beautiful view of the ocean morning and night! Not to mention the AC did not work and we were forced to open our slider at night just to sleep, as dangerous as it could've been! They no longer clean your room daily and so we had to go to the office daily to ask for coffee and towels. The girls in the office were very compliant to ask the neighbors to stop smoking their marijuana, however it took several calls and a whole day to get it done! For nearly $400.00 per night I think we could've expected way better service! If you want to enjoy your privacy, no smoking, and daily maid service check out another motel!!! We will NEVER stay here again!! read more

Got a studio off hotels.com Service: awesome and very friendly. Gave opportunity to attend timeshare presentation (35 mins for $50 visa gift card) but not pushy at all about it. Gave us tour of facilities Amenities: in winter pool and outdoor spa was closed BUT have indoor spa and sauna. Can also rent movies and board games. Rec room has pool table Views: fantastic. All rooms seemed to have great lake views In-room: studio with kitchenette had lots/pans/utensils. Range but no oven. Coffee pot, but bring your own coffee if youre particular (1 packet of Folgers provided). Shower was hot and clean. Fireplace added bonus Would definitely stay again!! read more

This place was a huge disappointment. And bedbugs to boot! We were looking for a place to stay in the Tahoe area that had a lake view. We found the website for the Beachcomber Inn which says that ALL the rooms have a lake view and kitchen. But that's just not true anymore. I believe it was true not too long ago, but they converted one of the rooms into two rooms and now the room they call W and rent out through hotel websites is a "hotel unit" that does NOT have a lake view. And the thing they called a 'kitchen' in that unit was part of the closet converted to hold a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and a broken toaster. There's no stove, oven, dishwasher, or even plates, bowls, utensils, or other things found in a real kitchen. I have never stayed in a hotel where the mini fridge and microwave was called 'a kitchen.' We were frustrated to learn about this when we checked in and so we called around but none of the other hotels or resorts we called had lake views available for the time period we were visiting. So we decided to just make due and stay put. But then on the second night we were awakened by bedbugs! BEDBUGS So we left immediately in the middle of the night and checked in down the road at another place that was actually truly clean and had bedbug protective mattress covers as well as an efficiency kitchen (mini fridge, microwave, stove, sink, coffee maker, working toaster, utensils and dishes). The new place also had air conditioning, a restaurant on-site, convenience store on site, as well as many other features such as a pool etc and the price was comparable. Once we had given up on the idea of a lake view (without significant pre-planning), we were able to find many perfectly suitable rooms in our price range. We definitely do NOT recommend this place. My mother and I chose this place to spend one night in South Lake Tahoe. Upon arriving, the staff was very friendly. We were shown our room and immediately very upset that we only booked one night!! The room was spacious and overlooked the lake. Everything was very new and clean and the attention to details were definitely impressive. We especially enjoyed the large patio with a table and chairs so we could enjoy some wine before dinner. I would have given this place 5 stars except for one thing: at the front desk I was given a sheet of paper with a long list of "Guest Rules". Once in the room I began reading and it was all pretty much common sense rules, so I stopped reading. Thankfully I went back and read the rest of the list which included a rule that all trash must be taken out and dishes washed and put away, otherwise you're charged 25$. Thankfully after only one night we didn't have much to clean up.. but it would have been nice to know this verbally, instead of on a piece of paper that could have easily been dismissed. Regardless, we are excited to come back next summer for a longer stay! read more

Here is a friendly little resort right on the shores of Lake Tahoe. We went as a timeshare exchange from our home resort, and it was wonderful to just stay somewhere with no sales pitch to convert to *their* timeshare. Just laid-back staff, full-kitchen rooms, and a nice common area with couches, games and it's own kitchen area as well. You won't get marble floors here but you will get comfortable rooms with full view of the water. Restaurants within walking distance, food stores just a bit further. We would absolutely stay here again. read more

I'm so glad I found this hidden gem. We have a family of 6 so I wanted to find a place with a kitchen and that's big enough to accommodate all of us. Let me tell you, this place is so perfect! One of the big pluses is it's off of the lake. We also got lucky enough to get a room with a balcony so the kids got a chance to play with snow right outside. Kitchen came with all of the amenities, pullout sofa, 2 queen size beds, 2 baths, and a dining area. What else can you ask for?!!! Another big plus, price here is so affordable compared to other hotels around the area. Planning our next trip to return here during the summer months. A+++ read more

we made a quick trip to tahoe, so I booked this room thru hotels.com. I was pleasantly surprised at the great price I received with something right on the lake, but then when we got to the room, I was so happy to find such a cozy room with the amazing view of the lake. I got to take advantage of their indoor jacuzzi andb sauna, was amazed their was a clubhouse with pool table and variety of games & puzzles. not only did I get to see the sunset from my balcony, In the morning watching the sunrise from my room was an experience not to miss. There is a kitchenette with all the amenities, and they give plenty of cream and sugar for your coffee. I will be returning and recommend this gem if you plan to stay in tahoe. read more

Agree with the other reviews about this being dated. Our room is so off the mark. The pics on Yelp absolutely do not match what room we got. The furniture is cheap and doesn't match or make sense. The windows are dirty and old and have paint splatter on them. The window treatments are ill fitting, sagging, and just look terribly cheap. I was stressed being here, cause it just felt so dirty and cheap. We paid close to $200/night, and I'm so disgusted. There's no door mat, so I'm sure people have tracked dirt all over this gross place. The appliances and bathroom fixtures are old. It feels like a worn down college dorm. Not recommending or coming back. What a mistake. read more

The location and view are everything at this hotel! The staff was really nice and accomadating. The room was not the swankiest but definitely comfortable and clean. They only guaranteed WiFi in their lobby area but said they would be updating that in the next week. I loved being able to walk down a few stair steps from the property right to the beach with my daughter and the free movie rentals in the office was definitely a bonus! I've been going to this place since I was 3 (36 years ago). I had changed so much yet the same feel every year. This is a true gem in Tahoe in my opinion. It is right on the beach. There is a pool. The game room includes a pool table, foosball and a large TV. There is also an indoor hot tub and sauna. The place is a great value and the staff is friendly and always willing to help with any issues. I hope to come every year until I'm too old to make it. read more

I stayed here in February 2015. Overall, I didn't like the place because it's very outdated, dingy and dirty. Cons: 1) Carpet floor was very dirty. My daughter was barefoot while walking around and the bottoms of her feet were black. 2) The decor is outdated. 3) No maid service. You must empty your own trash throughout your stay & put your dirty towels outside to get clean ones. Upon leaving, you must empty the garbage & dishwasher or get a $25 charge. 4) The towels are nasty and beige colored. You can't tell if you are getting clean ones. 5) The dishes in the cabinet are dirty. 6) The tv is old - they aren't flat screens. 7) There are no elevators. Pros: 1) Conveniently located near stores, shops & restaurants. 2) Beautiful views of Lake Tahoe. 3) You are right on the water & have beach access. read more

Great place to stay. Located conveniently to casinos and restaurants. Every room has a lake view. Only timeshare in Tahoe that has this. NO obstructed views of the lake. Family oriented. Great for a couple getaway. Clean and quiet. GREAT staff. This is not a big fancy resort but clean and comfortable. Furniture is nice, beds comfortable. No on site restaurant but there is a pool and sauna. Game room and there is wifi. This is a great place. If you want to buy a timeshare in order to exchange and travel the world this is the place to do it. This was my first time to South Lake Tahoe and went with a friend. First we decided we were going to stay at The Beach Retreat & Lodge but went with Beachcomber Inn instead. We got there 30 mins early b4 checkout time but the lady at the desk said the room was ready and she showed us around the place. The view from our place. Unit L was amazing. It was so private and that is what i really liked a lot. They even call you to see if you are interested in a time share but it wasn't something i was interested in and also called if everything was ok and if we needed any supplies. We stayed for 2 days and got to visit around Tahoe. The only thing i didn't like was the bed was not as comfortable but i was able to sleep on and wished the shower had more pressure. We look forward to staying at the Beachcomber every year for 2 weeks for the last 22 years and have never tired of it. There's no better way to relax and enjoy the beauty of this place than to spend time on the decks of each unit looking over Lake Tahoe. This is a wonderful small Timeshare right on the water. Some of the units have stairs that walk right out onto the beach in front of the units, you can't get any closer. It's all about location. Try going to their website and take a tour. We've been going there since 2000. We try not to miss a year. We stayed here using a time share. We were soo impressed with this place. I loved how small and quaint that it was. The staff was so welcoming. We loved the common game area to play pool at night. There were bbq grills on each balcony so that you could grill outside. It was very clean inside with plenty of linen and towels readily available. We will stay here again if we return in the near future!! And the view of the water and mountains was beautiful!!! read more

Definitely the best and most efficient staff as well as friendly. I had 3 minor issues. within a half hour all issues were solved with a smile. The other guests staying here are friendly and welcoming as well. Being right on the water is great entertainment. They have great T.V. and Internet, but watching all the activity on the lake means less TV for me. read more
