We decided on Lake Tahoe for our son's end of school year trip so that we would be able to include our dog who is getting up in age. In my search for dog friendly lodging I came across Doc's. We went over our options and after texting with Dave, we decided on Doc's. We booked cottage #9. Dave was easy to communicate with and when I had to change our departure date, he took care of it with no issues and my card was refunded. The cottage was ready when we got into town. It had everything we needed, it was cute and cozy! The pub across the street played really great music and one night there was a wedding and the dj played great music, we really enjoyed it. They adhered to the 10pm quiet time. I don't know if people were walking to work at 5:30 am but it seemed super noisy with people walking down the street every morning. The construction next door started shortly after 6am. Cottage #9 is on the end so we heard it all. It didn't bother me because I get up before 4am for work and keep a similar schedule on days off. With that said, if you're going to Tahoe to hibernate and catch up on your sleep, then perhaps Doc's isn't quite the fit for you. I laughed at one of the previous reviews were the person said they needed a ladder to get into the bed. Our bed was high and it took some catapulting to get up there but it was not impossible and I'm only 5'3". We enjoyed being able to walk to dinner or to get coffee in the morning. Great location. We don't get to Tahoe often but we would most definitely stay at Doc's again. read more

Doc's Cottages is just what the doctor ordered. If you are planning to visit South Lake Tahoe, forget the overpriced motels turned into "faux" luxury resorts with resort fees or the shadily priced Airbnb/VRBO rentals that appear to be cheap until you see the ridiculous cleaning fees. Consider Doc's Cottages, a small business that is owned and operated by the amicable owners, Lloyd and Angie, since the 1980s. On top of that, Doc's Cottages is dog-friendly ($20 per night), just make sure to call ahead and let the owners know. Each of the eight cabins has its own kitchenette with an electric stove, mini-fridge, microwave, pots, and utensils. There are also charcoal BBQs and an outdoor fire pit. We stayed in Cabin 4 (single bed) in March 2020, which is heated via a central furnace and an electric fireplace. Both work really well to warm you up. However, since Doc's Cottages is not a typical hotel, you do need to bring your own toiletries (shampoo and lotion). If you forget, there is a Raley's supermarket across the street. The cabins were very clean and despite being built in 1929, you would not know it. However, being almost 100-years-old before laptops and cell phones, there are not enough power cords. I travel a lot so I always bring a power strip and you will need one if you need to plug in multiple iPhones, laptops, etc. Also, during our stay, the WiFi seemed to be a bit spotty (possibly due to the weather) so we just used our iPhones as personal hotspots to use our laptops. Other than that, our stay was awesome. When we visit Tahoe, we try to bring our dog with us when possible. Many hotels are dog-friendly but charge a ridiculous fee or have a requirement that your dog should not be left along in the room. This is not the case as Doc's! $20 per night is an amazing bargain, and you can leave your dog in the cabin as long as your furry one is potty-trained. We were able to leave our little guy, Charlie, in the room while we hit the slopes at Kirkwood and Heavenly without having to stress about him. Additionally, Doc's location cannot be beat. It's on the Nevada side of South Lake Tahoe so there are no resort fees and it its right next to Harvey's Casino and within walking distance to the Heavenly village and gondola. What's more is that there is a brewery right across the street at the Basecamp hotel that is dog-friendly and has outdoor fire pits, cornhole, table tennis, and of course good beer that is open to about 10 PM. At the end of the day, Doc's Cottages provided just what we needed. A cozy cabin with a kitchenette that was dog-friendly. Since we lug around ski gear, it was great to have the parking be right in front of the cabin as well. And of course, I love supporting local-owned small businesses. * Special thanks to the innkeeper and really friendly Debbie for helping remove the snow from our Subaru when we were checking out! * It turns out that Clark Gable used to stay at Cottage 1 when he used to visit South Lake Tahoe. So refreshing to find a bit of nostalgia here in Tahoe. Who would ever think you would find an old fashioned motor lodge nestled in between the high rise hotels nearby. The places have everything one would need for a few days get away to the mountains. And you have all the cooking equipment you need for making your own gourmet meals . Carnival atmosphere This place is a zoo! I've got clowns to the left of me and jokers to the right. Here I am stuck in a room with no view. If you want to go to bed, make sure you bring your own ladder. I'm 6'2" and had a hard time getting into bed. You've got a pub with live music in the front of you and a live concert venue in the back. You've got drunk street vendors on your front porch and poor horses dragging people around. Oh and the drunk street vendor is inviting his friends to park in your spot while they drink, smoke cigarettes and bbq right under your window. It is a horrible way to enjoy the beautiful forest all around you. I will never visit this place ever again. Enjoy your stay. read more

Dave made it super easy to book and check it.It was great it felt homey, clean, the beds were comfortably all amenities worked great, it had every thing we needed. The heater was on upon arrival, might i had we could have checked in early as well. We were at the snow all day it was nice to feel relaxed some where cozy. We totally watched a movie and had some hot coco. It is honestly a hidden GEM! super close to everything which was wonderful! Haven't was legit walking distance (NEXT DOOR) it was central to so much we love it! we had a pleasant stay, i definitely recommend giving it a try and our family will be back.! My brother and I arrived in town for a convention next door at Harvey's. They really were not my first choice to stay, but I was looking for the best prices for the two nights we were staying. So when looking on a hotel booking website, I found their prices so much more reasonable than the chains. No resort fees. Wait, what? "No resort fees." I immediately booked it through the booking website and I am so glad I did, but next time I will book directly with Doc's Cottages. We arrived a little bit too early because the cottage was getting tidied up for us and it was going to take at least another couple of hours. I said, "No problem." Angie then asked about my phone number on the reservation details and I said it is. She said she will call me when the cottage is ready. Over lunch at the Village, she called and said our cottage is ready. We couldn't wait to see our little place. When we got there, I can tell you she was excited to show us around and the sweet little amenities they have. The cottage had a queen size bed with superbly clean sheets and duvet; a very large bathroom for the cottage's size; a dorm-type stove, microwave oven, and refrigerator; a cozy patio; and a space heater for those chilly nights (the A/C is standard and we didn't use it that much). We did not have one single issue with the accommodations. It was so perfect for everything we needed. While we didn't cook or use the stove to make it worth our while, we nevertheless knew it was available if we needed it. Also, there is BBQ available for use (PLEASE FOLLOW THE RULES) as well. We had an INCREDIBLE time. During the breaks in the convention, I was telling everyone about Doc's Cottages and all we got was, "How did you find that place???" I was feeling pretty pumped up about that! Angie and Lloyd: THANK YOU SO MUCH for the absolute generosity and hospitality that rivals the finest hotels in the world. Nothing fancy, it was just was we needed. Tucked in behind Harvey's just a couple blocks off highway 50. The side street is nice and quiet. There eight cottages to choose from, I recommend checking them out on line there are great pictures and descriptions there. Booking was easy as well as checking in. The next morning the owner checked on us to see if we needed anything. Cottage #4 was perfect for us. The studio kitchen had everything we needed. Cold cold frig, coffee maker and toaster. And a nice breakfast nook. The queen bed was large, comfy and clean. The bathroom also clean- just a tip, don't flush the toilet if someone is in the shower- they would be happy. The towels are soft and huge. There was a nice big flat screen tv and cable. The electric fireplace was great- it added ambiance and took the chill off in the evening. It even had a remote control so you didn't have to get out of bed. The price for our weekend was just right. No hidden resort fees or parking charges. Its location is perfect- walking distance to everything in the area. I would definitely stay here again. read more

Booked three nights here for our honeymoon and I'm glad we did! First off, Angie was very friendly and showed us around the cabin. Cabin had everything you'd need like pots/pans, microwave,mini fridge, stuff to wash dishes and a toaster. Very convenient location as you can park right infront of your cabin to easily unload your luggage. Also super close to the lake (only a 5minute walk). The mini fridge kept our drinks super cold! We stayed in cottage number 2 and it was very clean upon arrival. Only thing I'd say negative about this place is I wish it had AC but they do have plenty of fans in the cottage and the amount of windows gives off a cool breeze. Overall I recommend this place for a nice romantic getaway. Side note: they have a patio area with a grill you can use if you wanted an evening after the lake BBQing. read more

We really enjoyed our stay at Doc's Cottages. As others have posted, it's walking distance to everywhere you'd want to go to ... the beach, shopping, resaurants and casinos. We stayed in cabin 2. The only con I have is that the bed was horribly uncomfortable. It was too firm, no bounce at all and we woke up sore. We appreciated that the mini kitchen had everything we needed if we wanted to cook, although we didn't use it. read more

Stumbled upon this place and the owners were very nice and happy to see us. Had one room left with two bed and it worked out perfect. Had an electric fire place and warmed up nicely. Bathroom was large for the size of the cute little cottage and TV in both rooms. Only $147 with taxes and fees for one night. They were proud of their place and would stay here again :-) read more

The 1 star is for the owner, Angie. Rude on the phone, *slightly* better in person, not by much though. Should have listened to my gut and cancel after my first bizarre phone interaction and again within the first 15 minutes of arriving when she referred to 'the illegals'. I caught her in two statements that were not true and she is VERY nosy. After spending over an hour to check-in (she is very talkative but won't let you finish a sentence) I had to tell her to "please leave me alone now ok? I've been up since 4am, I'm tired and hungry and don't wanna hear about how 'great' Trump is right now'. Please just, leave me alone". She then proceeded to sweep my front porch and the kitchen area as I tried to imply that I wanted to be left alone by unpacking things in silence. Which didn't help, she kept looking at everything I was unpacking so I stopped, she eventually left. The total of OVER AN HOUR just checking-in/that interaction, prompted me to hide from and avoid her as much as possible. I think it's senility and possibly medications (so I feel some empathy). During the last part of my stay I was asked if I was Mexican by her husband and I now wonder if that had anything to do with the experience I had. (I am not btw, but I am a mutt). There was a hint she tried looking IN my windows (she said, "we couldn't see in cause your blinds were always closed"). She kept calling me the 'The Mystery Lady' in a derogatory way, which is ironic because I was hiding from her. The place is overall outdated, but fairly cozy and in an extremely convenient location. The electric 'fireplace' in my cabin was so loud I was unable to use it. I would have asked for someone to look at it, but there are no phones in the room and was not looking forward to having any more interactions with Angie that I needed to. I would have given a higher rating if it wasn't for her questionable, bordering on hostile behavior. If you are able to do reservations online and not a PoC, you'll have a pleasant stay (I think?). If you are a PoC be ready for an uncomfortable experience. If my interaction was not so awful, I would have given it 3 stars for its convenient location. read more

This place is wonderful! The staff is very accommodating and so pleasant to deal with. The cottage was very clean, equipped with everything needed for cooking. All pots and pans were in great condition and everything looked pretty close to new. We were greeted by the staff upon arrival and she walked us to our cottage to show us how to use everything and to make sure that everything worked. I wish I remembered her name. Both ladies that helped out were very nice and pleasant! This will definitely be our new go to when traveling to Tahoe!!! It's a very nice cozy cabin. I like that your parking spot is right next to your room. It's full of amenities inside and it feels like you're home. The only two things that could be improved upon in my opinion. 1. Price was a bit high specially when I stayed during what I believed to be a low season. Monday thru Wednesday in July. 2. One of the bed was terrible. It was severely worn and the springs sagged really bad. You could feel the coils poking your back. If you sneeze the whole bed shakes as if there's an earthquake. Other than that my stay was pleasant. Would I go again? Sure. But only if they assure me that the bed is in better condition. read more

Some man frying hot dogs then tri tip (street vendor) right in front of cabin 9. His friends come by and make themselves right at home with patio chairs when you walk out your door. Smoking so you can't leave your door open. What a joke. Chairs falling apart. It felt like I was in the getto in Tahoe. I would never stay at this side of town ever. I stumbled across this place while web surfing from Trip Adviser. Since we live in Reno we can drive to Tahoe in an hour, so my kids & I drove up to check it out. Came back and told the wifeski and she booked us a cottage for two nights. This place was super clean with modern floors, counters, and a full kitchen. Our cottage had two queens in two separate rooms. Big flat screens in each room and free wi-fi. Our outdoor patio had table chairs, umbrella and it's own BBQ. This place is also 50 feet from Harvey's (if you must have Starbucks)and 100 yards to the beach. We also had some raccoon's visit us on the patio. They are pet friendly, but our dog howls when you leave her alone, so we boarded her in Reno. read more

Angie & Lloyd were uniquely personable & very welcoming which was an indicator of how proud they are of their property. Our unit was clean & had all the essentials included. Location is conveniently close to both the casinos & the beach, each a few blocks away (free entrance pass included for the beach!) For those of you who are like my sweetheart & don't stop working while on vacation their WIFI is fast & reliable. This place is so great! My wife and I went to South Lake Tahoe for our 1 year anniversary, since that's where we also got married. I wanted a place where I could cook for my wife the whole weekend and we found Docs Cottages. We checked in and the lady at the check in counter literally walked us to our room and showed us around. She made sure all was in working order for us to use for the weekend. The concierge guy at the Cottages was amazing. Originally, we didn't have much planned, but after the concierge gentleman called us over, we went to shows and did a two hour tour on the lake! The tour was free!!! Only catch was that we had to watch a presentation for 90 minutes regarding purchasing time shares at a resort in Tahoe. Yes, you can say no. For our time, they gave us the lake tour. Couldn't miss out on that! Didn't spend a dime unless you want to purchase things on the large paddle boat Overall, I'd rate this place an A. A hidden gem close to Harvey's back entrance finds several cute guest cottages for vacation rental. Painted white with green trim and small hedges with paved pathways and your own parking place makes it something special right away. We met the proprietor who showed us to our cabin, number 8. It was a nice studio, decorated with a cozy faux fireplace, separate bathroom, kitchenette and a table with 2 chairs. A flat screen TV is mounted on the wall- if you have time for TV! Very quiet and private. We slept well snug and comfortable in a very nice bed. I'd stay here again anytime. It was truly a treat. We awoke refreshed and ready to tackle the day. read more

A cute, cozy, superbly located little time machine. These cottages will take you back to when you could bring your dog to a hotel, enjoy some classic wood paneling, use a wood furnace (it's actually really modern but looks super cool) and...walk to a casino? Doc's Cottages is really the whole package. Our pup loved tagging along, and the amazing employees even gave us an extra blanket and some spare towels for cleaning off his muddy paws. You're about a 5 minute walk down to the water, and there's a public beach with a kids' playground and a seasonal snack shack. You can also peep on some awesome celebrity mansions next door! The location of Doc's is impossible to beat. It's legitimately a two-minute walk to Harveys, across the street from a cute brewery with lawn games and fire pits, and a five-minute walk to Heavenly Village. Parking your car once and not getting back in until you head back home is wonderful feeling. read more

This is a hidden gem at Stateline, Nevada close to the casinos and the lake. I really enjoyed staying here, very comfortable, clean and close to everything. You can walk to just about everything including the Gondola. They have little kitchenettes, a bbq area outside and a nice fire pit area. I will be back in the Summer! read more

I have no problem with staying in a shabby motel. In fact, sometimes I prefer a place with a little character. That is why I chose to reserve a place at Doc's Cottages. The location is great if you want to go to Heavenly and/or the casinos. We stayed in Unit 9 which unfortunately was right next to the bus depot at Harvey's. It seemed like those things ran all night. The Cottage: * the beds were old and not level. They both sloped towards the headboard. * the floor sloped to the rear of the unit and it wasn't a slight slope. There was some sort of basement under the unit so I was a little worried about the cottage collapsing into it. * There were long black hairs in the sink, on the floor, and in the tub drain which could have easily been cleaned up * There was black mildew in the tub area which could have been easily remedied with some bleach. * The coffee maker smelled like someone put cheese in it. * There were no kitchen supplies like pans, plates or anything so if you plan on cooking make sure to bring EVERYTHING! Overall I was very disappointed. We paid $180 for Sat and Sun night. We left a day early because I couldn't fathom another night of all the blood rushing to my brain while sleeping and dodging the black hairs in the bathroom. Basically there was just no effort being made to keep things up or even keep things clean. Too bad. read more

Doc's Cottages are extremely cute and the owners are super friendly. Their cottages are quaint, with mini kitchen that has a stove, mini fridge, microwave, dishes, etc. They have one and two bedroom cottages. The one bedroom is similar to a studio setup, and the two bedroom took what used to be the living room and added another bed. I prefer to not stay in the casinos when I go to Tahoe, and this place is perfect. Approximately ten minutes to the beach, steps to Harvey's (which makes for a great location at the end of the night), and it has windows that open!! These little cottages were built in 1929, which means that they've been there long enough to have plenty of trees grow around and have lots of shade. The room was clean and the owners were always on site, and if you were outside, they would have a small conversation with you, making sure you were having a good time, everything was alright, and just see how you were doing, if you needed anything. I can understand how some of the reviews weren't the greatest, but you need to take into account that you are not paying top dollar, and there will be a few misses. However, to stay in a place that is so close to everything, quiet (minus a noisy neighbor if you have one), the ability to cook your own food, have fresh air, and sleep soundly is something that you really just can't put a price on. I enjoyed my stay here, and I will be staying here again in the future. read more

I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS PLACE IS STILL IN OPERATION! We used to stay at this crap-hole because of price and location. Service was never really that good but we put up with it cause we're guys and have low standards when it comes to a crash pad. Unless you like hard ass mattresses, towels that feel crusty and smell like cigarettes, no general update of any kind for the past 20 years, and don't expect any type of customer service if you find your room unsatisfactory. I really wish South Tahoe had some sort of general cleanliness and regulations to be in the hotel/motel business. read more

I've always wanted to stay in a cottage on a winter. This review is way long overdue. There are probably a lot of changes now but my family had a wonderful stay. It's run by a nice couple. They offered firewood and charcoal when we were bbq'ng outside. They were very attentive, even gave us their personal numbers when there was anticipated blackout that night. The cottages are beautiful and cozy. They allow pets, but no weird smell in the cottages(we rented 3). We parked our car right in front of our door. Very nice.
