Took my cat there for 6 years. I would only trust one of their doctors. The rest are money-grabbers.

Just a few updates on this vet hospital. The vets here are still great. Very good with the animals and also great to deal with. Changes since the age of COVID. This updated review is from January 2023. NO BOARDING AVAILABLE: FYI since COVID, they no longer do boarding despite what their website says. That's a disappointing change for us. Also they recommended another vet for boarding which we tried. Our dog came home with a bacterial infection. $200 in vet bills later - yeah won't be using that option again. :(. LONGER WAIT TIMES: Due to catch up on surgeries plus a larger clientele list, you can expect to wait longer for a vet appt. Sometimes it's very difficult to get anyone on the phone. You get put on hold for long periods of time. They seem over-extended. I feel for the staff. They also suspended some of the promotions they used to do. So like most everything in the post-COVID world, expect your bill to be higher. They are still a pretty good vet with nice staff, but I have to say on a number of fronts, there are some detractors since 2020. read more

This used to be a great vet's office but since they were bought by VCA (a large American company) it is all about money now. Great care from the vets still but I'm afraid I'm looking around for a better caring place for my older dog. Many of the policies have changed with no alerts. The prices for some services have doubled and a medication that I bought a year ago has gone up 20%. At other places it has gone up 6%. So sad to see this happen. Sigh. read more

I have to provide an update! I received a call from Ruth at this vet who went out of her way to help me and provided some great info on the special food my cat requires. Molly came to Beaches as a rescue dog with tests that revealed a high probability of congestive heart, received only a l yr rabies shot, cancelled teeth cleaning and became unadoptable, so for one year the Rescue supported the dog until a change in leadership and Molly eventually became my dog for another year [until it was full on heart failure]. Dr. Dilworth and his Vet colleagues and support staff found every opportunity possible to keep her alive. To give us some time to say good bye and forher to play with her fave toys [One toy given to her by her previous owner and one I gave her became her chosen fave on the bed]. Molly loved to ride the bus and take a walk along the boardwalk, she got to do that in her final day. Loved it when I came home, dinner time & walks where she was quite sassy and loved a good bark off as she wagged her little tail. :) Molly was a joy in my life and Beaches Animal Hospital helped me deal with the loss of my dog in a very humane way, including financial. In May 2012 I decided to take my cat for an annual check up. The Beaches Animal Hospital seemed like the best option since I live nearby and don't have a car or even drive. My cat was examined by Dr. Dilworth and after a à couple of visits we knew that something was wrong. In the months that followed, I revisited the clinic endless times and each and every one of these visits was nothing short of outstanding. Dr. Dilworth is phenomenal and all of the staff that helped me throughout the past year were fantastic. Unfortunately my cat eventually passed away due to her several different health problems but I'm forever thankful for all the compassion, love and care showed by Dr Dilworth and all of the staff. Please don't let the bad reviews steer you away from the clinic. Give it time, get to know the staff and above all; keep your expectations in check and you'll soon discover how wonderful this place truly is. read more

Dr. Kozsti is the most kind, compassionate vet. When my dog had a bad reaction to chemotherapy, he was so calm and caring and helped me to emotionally get through what was a very difficult time. That was my first dealing with him, and I've been taking her to him ever since. My girl has come so far, and done so well, thanks to his ongoing care and treatment. The entire staff at Beaches Animal Hospital is fantastic and you really feel like you're in a place surrounded by people who care for your pet, and will go above and beyond to look after them. Our dog Zooey had extreme respiratory distress this past Tuesday and Dr Dilworth and his team stayed past closing at 10 pm to help her. She needed to be transported to an emergency vet clinic and he spent a lot of time finding the right place for us and making sure they'd take us right away. Who does this in this day and age? He made an excruciating painful day and next few days so much better by being an extremely compassionate and caring person. I can't even express how Thankful I am. Beaches Animal Hospital has very friendly reception, who are also accommodating and caring. The vet techs listen well and give very clear instructions. Dr Joanna Coote is great! She is very easy to communicate with, I never feel rushed, and she she really seems to care. I would give that team 5 stars! The only reason why my rating is reduced is due entirely to Dr Dilworth. I should clarify that I have exotics; rabbits and rats. These are not his specialty, so I don't understand why he decided to see me. I went in after my rabbit had a seizure. The staff were very quick to respond and got me in for an emergency appointment. Dr Dilworth spent the first 15 minutes talking about his disdain for any "natural medicine", especially glucosamine. He didn't ask me any questions or even take my rabbit out of her carrier. As you can imagine, this was excruciating for me. I asked several times if this was related to my rabbit's condition, and he said it was not. I said I understood his opinion and could he please look at her, he ignored me and continued to talk. It wasn't until I excused myself and brought my husband in to speak with him that he paid her any attention. (My husband immediately asked if this was related to her and stated he wanted to know about our rabbit, not his opinions) While it may not be the case, repeatedly not listening to me, a woman, and then immediately listening to my husband read as sexist. This behaviour added to my anxiety and frustration, and I felt trapped. My pet needed help. He also went on to tell me, proudly, that he has given this anti-natural medicine spiel many times; most recently to a woman about her dog. He bragged "...I told her, you're the one who cares about your dog. At the end of the day I go home and I don't even think about it." So he has now told me in action, and in words that he and his opinions are his top priority, not the pets. Awesome. He also picked my rabbit up by her shoulders. Anyone who knows rabbits would never do that. To sum up, staff=great!, Dr Coote= great!, Dr Dilworth= pompous mansplainer. Don't bring him your exotics, don't see him if you're female. read more

Our outdoor cat got hit by a car so we took him to this clinic. Despite this being Sunday and just half hour before closing time, they gave us the best care possible. Prices are very competible, and no one pushed any extra services or procedures on us. Dr. Kozsti was very kind and considerate and found a common ground with our cat right away. He is calm, logical and very professional. The receptionist Vanessa and the nurses were also very good to us and the cat. Taken how unexpected a trauma examination can go and how expensive it usually is, I was pleasantly surprised to have to pay under $200 for our cat's treatment. To compare: the dr exam here is $72, at Downtown emerg - 85, at Central Toronto - $135. All plus tax. So I am very satisfied and highly recommend. PS: the cat is fine, lucky bastard. read more

I don't understand the bad reviews on this business as I have been taking my animals here for over 6 years and have only received great service and the best care for my animals. I have used a lot of vets in the city and Dr. Dilworth stands out as one of the best. They are not the cheapest vet in town, for sure. But I don't want cheap when it comes to my animals - I want someone who will take the time to educate me on my options. And to give Dr. Dilworth credit, he always provides alternatives that are less expensive when a major procedure has been required for one of my animals. My dogs and my cats are part of my family and I continue to visit Dr. Dilworth and recommend him highly. read more

I've been taking my animals here for a few years now, and I can't say enough great things about this clinic and all its staff. They truly care for every animal that comes through their doors, as well as the owners that bring them in. The vets are amazing, caring, compassionate people. The reception staff is always helpful and polite and never make it seem like your a bother, (when I'm sure some of us are!) I wouldn't go anywhere else with my pets, as it is now I don't live in the area but still drive down there. Money wise I think they are pretty comparable to most clinics, but I trust them completely and that's worth all the money in the world to me. If your in the area, heck even if you aren't like me, I 100 percent recommed this clinc!! read more

My dog is chronically ill, and I've even had some vets turn him down because of his litany of problems. If he does get seen, it's usually an arm and a leg for the visit, plus the cost of his medication. As any pet owner knows, animals are not cheap, however, the staff at the Beaches Animal Hospital, Dr. Dilworth in particular, has done a great job with keeping these costs down while providing outstanding care. He takes time out to return calls, review the pet history, and offer his advice, which has been pretty accurate. He also is a genuine dog lover, and has taken in a few on his own, which is comforting news because of all the horror stories I've heard about vets just doing it for the money. He doesn't impose unnecessary vaccines, and has never refused to refill my dog's prescription due to not completing blood work. As I mentioned, my dog is chronically ill, and with two dogs and monthly medication fees I don't have all the money in the world to run a test that gives me the same news. With that said, I have had a vet refuse to refill his meds because I didn't have the money for the blood test. I pulled my dogs out of this clinic instantly and went with a friend's referral to the Beaches Animal Hospital. Thankfully, I think I found my vet for life! I recommend this hospital to anyone that's a pet lover. read more

When our cat of 16 passed away this fall, I called Beaches Animal Hospital to ask if they had any kittens. They invited us to come and see some of rescue kittens that were retrieved from a Beach home and we quickly were smitten with "Beach 9". The staff and vets took care to educate on the challenges of a rescue cat, but they were so committed to the care of these animals that we felt we had great support with any issues that might arise. I took my suddenly ill adult cat to the BAH and they were really great. My cat hates strangers touching her and vets in particular, so they had to take special care of her. As it turned out, after several days straying there on an IV and having a battery of tests, they could not save her and we had to put her down. The staff and vets are very compassionate and patient. I visited twice a day for 4 days and called lots as well. Every time, they took time to talk with me, smile and show genuine interest in my feelings and her wellbeing. They seem to love their jobs there which helps everyone feel more at ease. She got all the care possible and I am grateful for their bedside manner and wonderful attitudes. Dr Koszti was especially nice, explained every step and helped us stay positive but was also realistic. They let me spend some quality time with my cat and let me fall apart when it was time to put her down. The other vet on duty at that time kept saying how sorry he was, and talked in soft tones to help us stay calm. They also did not nickel and dime us on everything. Beaches Animal Hospital - Cookie getting some very needed medical care - Pet Sitting Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

Being a Sunday, with our usual vet closed we were once forced to deal with the Beaches Animal Hospital for an emergency. Despite being told that time could be of the essence it took the vet several hours to return my call. After following up twice during the day I finally received a call later that night when it was already too late to bring the sick cat in. Funny thing is, the vet reiterated what I was told earlier that I needed to bring the cat in asap...except it was now too late to do so (they were closing for the night) He had given me one option: Surgery. I had read that vets will always do x-rays first to see if its necessary . Instead he told me they were pointless and suggested I go the very expensive route of cutting my cat open. With the procedure itself causing irreversible damage (but better than taking the chance of my cat dying he says). Unable to do anything until morning I had no reason why I couldn't just take the cat to the regular vet. My vet opted to do the x-rays first and easily determined that surgery would have been completely unnecessary. Things I had read had suggested that more likely than not, the cat would be fine. My vet ended up saying the same thing. That surgery wouldn't likely be necessary. Yet the vet at the Beaches Animal Hospital very clearly stated it would be the only option. It's one thing to suggest an expensive procedure and have the only harm done be to my wallet and not the animal, but when the unnecessary procedure would cause permanent damage that would take years off my cat's life, what on earth is the vet thinking? read more

My dog was brought here by our dog walker when he got hit by a car. They were super nice and caring, and did everything they should have for my dog. They are really sweet staff, my only issue is that it's pretty darn expensive. We probably won't go back due to price, but if it wasn't for that we totally would. read more

I've read good reviews and our vet also recommended this place. Decided to call because our pet cat needs a major dental surgery. However, the first time i called, immediately after i said hello, the front desk put me on hold for more than 6 minutes and i decided to hang up. Not a good first impression. I decided to call again after thinking hard about it, since i am also about giving second chances. Second call, right after they picked up, they put me on hold and i was just able to say "ok". Then less than a minute of waiting, either they hung up or the line got disconnected. I was really hoping they were as good as what i've been reading in these reviews, especially since our cat really needs help. I've been a client of this clinic for 5 years and it was okay. Expensive for sure. Only when I really had a reason to go here did it show that they're all about money. I had a cat that was clearly in extreme pain, not eating, and having serious issues. Its was fairly certain that it was a serious health concern and immediately they did a battery of test which were of course necessary and not optional. Their "standard" geriatric screening didn't reveal anything and my vet had NO answer for us or even any suggestions as to what it might be. She recommended we clean her teeth for a mere $1,000.00! X-ray had to sent away for and costed a large sum as well. For someone I trusted, I was left with no hope and no answer and a cat still in pain. This vet clinic clearly puts priority on pushing for surgery and treatments that cost giving you very little options. Its a policy that goes after your wallet first, and the necessary care of your pet second. If you want a socially responsible vet that puts your pets health first, seek elsewhere. If I stayed with them, my cat would at least have clean teeth before she died! read more

Very helpful clinic: clean location, knowledgeable and attentive veterinarians. They get a ton of business from the area, so the waits can be a bit long - definitely call in advance if you can to make a time. Prices feel high, though I have not done a lot of comparison shopping. read more

Dr. Dillworth and the staff have been terrific with our Doberman pup. I think Dr. D. has a special affinity for large breed dogs since he has a huge Rottie Mix. They're not cheap, but the facility is very nice and their caring attitude works for us! read more

We have been taking our bulldog Lola here for about a year now, and even though we live in Mississauga and the commute can be over an hour to get here, it is completely worth the awful drive. We had gone to a few other vets and nobody seemed to be able to (or care to) address some of the reoccurring problems Lola had until we met Dr. Dilworth. He truly is an amazing vet who absolutely loves what he does, and goes out of his way to research things and try different options to resolve problems. In all the years we have had dogs, I have never met a vet that I have been so happy with. Their prices are extremely reasonable - thruthfully I would pay any price to keep Lola safe and healthy but really do feel that they go the extra mile here and truly do care about your pet. We often take their latest appointment, which is usually 9/10pm and is amazing that they are open that late, and they never rush us or any other customers out if the appointment is behind, which I have experienced at other places in the past. I would not trust any dog of ours with anyone else. read more

I have entrusted the care of my animals to the staff at Beaches Animal hospital for over 10 years. They have helped us through many events, some with happy results and some terribly sad. We have always had 100% confidence and trust that they getting the best veterinary care and attention available. Although as mentioned in other posts the costs are on the high side, I would rather pay a higher price and feel certain I am doing the best for my pet, who after all is a member of my family. The vets make sure you understand clearly what the problem may be, and what options are available to you without talking over your head or making assumptions. I've been going to Mark Dilworth for years and he's really helped out in so many situations, I can't count them - with cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats and even degu. I'm not sure if he considers himself an exotic vet or not, but he has a history working with wildlife and has been looking after my animals, (largely rabbits), for years, and I am very picky. He's really the only vet I trust implicitly. I first met him through a rabbit who needed his molars ground, and he did it for years at a price that didn't bankrupt me and allowed me to keep the rabbit, when I may not have otherwise been able to. Following that, I had a rabbit with bladder stones and his bladder burst one night. I brought him in, knowing something was up, but not the urgency of the situation. In any case, Dr.Dilworth repaired his bladder and cleaned him up. The poor rabbit's heart stopped during surgery, and Dr. Dilworth brought him back. He recovered and lived many years longer. (I can only imagine the size of a dwarf rabbit bladder. ) All I can say is he is a very capable and precise surgeon. I had a cat close to death's door with a mystery issue that he was also able to solve. The cat has been fine with B12 injections since Mark figured it out. Recently I happened to take in a rabbit that was seizuring, and left armed with good medications to address it. I'm not sure what more anyone could ask for. He's smart, compassionate and doesn't look at pets with $ signs in his eyes. He is evidence based, but incredibly respectful and practical. His main concern is quality of life. He probably sees more dogs than cats or rabbits, but he is competent with them all as I've referred friends with dogs and they are just as happy as I am. I've been to vets all over the city and he is my number one. read more

I've been attending this clinic for many years and have most likely spent thousands there. I've never felt like a customer there; receptionist is quite rude and acts as though they are doing YOU a favour. Their prices are MUCH higher than surrounding clinics and the customer service doesn't make up for it. I suggest they put friendlier staff on the front desk. I am currently seeking a new vet after years of unsatisfactory service from this one. My advice - go somewhere else. Your business is NOT appreciated here. My last visit to this clinic the vet shaved about 6 inches of hair off my VERY senior dog's tail to look at a bump 1" from the end. Needless to say 1 1/2 years later and the hair has still not regrown. Now this vet should never have removed so much hair and surely should have realized with an old dog, it may not regrow. Now everywhere we go I get "Oh what happened to his tail"...as it looks like a rat tail. To top it all off the medicine I ordered from them is $30 cheaper at my new vets! THIRTY DOLLARS cheaper.....that adds up when you buy it every few months. Beaches is over priced. People LOVE their animals but that doesn't mean we want to be raked over the coals with over inflated profits from vet clinics!!!! Wise up people - plenty of clinics surrounding this one! read more

I have been to a number of clnics in the east end since moving to the area 4 years ago. The standard of care and compassion that I have found at Beaches won me over at my first visit. I have been with them ever since and really enjoy the relationship and rapport I have built with them. It's evident that this is much more than a "business" for them. I am also involved in rescue work and I experience how much they care for animals in their work to support rescues. I have seen them go above and beyond time and time again to ensure the health of their patients and I have every confidence when I place the health of my personal pets in their hands. I very much feel they set the standard for vet practices in the city! read more

Dr, Dilworth and staff got us through a terrible ordeal with our beloved Jack Russell who suddenly went into a coma. As soon as we entered the hospital they began emergency procedures. They kept him breathing artificially with oxygen as he was not able to breathe on his own. Dr. Dilworth contacted the local emergency clinics to try and find a respirator but the only one available was at the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph. He was in contact with vets at the College and the prognosis for our dog was not good as he had probably suffered brain damage. In the end we decided to remove the oxygen and he died peacefully. The efforts of Dr. Dilworth and his staff were exceptional and they stayed well past closing time to try and save our little guy. I can't thank them enough. read more

They are simply very, very expensive. They seem to try and inflate expenses and costs. Our terrier had a fishing hook in it's paw, it was obviously not in deep and not hooked on anything other than skin. I didn't want to -- foolishly -- remove it. After taking it to this fine establishment they managed to get $600 out of me for 30 seconds efforts. Not dishonest, not incompetent but not really caring about my price sensitivity. We went to Beaches Animal Hospital for the first time (instead of our usual vet) 6 weeks ago when our dog was really ill. It turned out the dog was much more ill than we had suspected, and the kindest thing would be to put the dog down. Dr. Kozsti was wonderfully kind and patient with us at our difficult time. I love this vet clinic. My boyfriend and I live in different areas and co-own animals but we bring our cat and dogs to this clinic. We have met most of the vets and feel they are compassionate and competent. They are open until 10 pm every day. Because of the long hours we have used them during emergencies as well. More recently our dog was bitten by another dog. No stitches, just antibiotics and pain medications. He has already mended. Woof! read more

I have worked as a vet assistant, worked with horses professionally and also been a pet owner for over 50 years in many different cities. I have never found a vet service as good as Beaches. I have been going to Beaches for the past 8 years. The caring, empathy, thoroughness is unbeatable. They really care and it shows. Excellent service. I couldn't recommend them any higher. I have had both dogs and cats looked after and also boarded there and they have just been terrific. read more

You never want to say good-bye. On beautiful Sunday morning after a torturous two days of watching my cat struggle and suffer, going to the emergency hospital, and my regular vet being unavailable, I ended up here. From the moment I called, they did everything right. They didn't make me wait in the waiting room with tears running down my face, but ushered me in quickly to a back room. They didn't make me rush. Even though the waiting room was jam-packed, they gave me all the time I needed. A female staff person spoke to me, saying amazingly kind things, asking about my cat, explaining what would happen. I barely heard a word she was saying, but she was saying all the right things, the kinds of things you want to hear when your pet is dying. The vet, Dr. Mark Dilworth, was incredibly empathetic. I felt like, even though they'd never met my cat before, they cared. I stayed for about an hour in that room, first hesitating, then after because I didn't want to leave her. I'm so incredibly grateful to them for how they handled this. They did such a phenomenal job, at a reasonable price. They made my terrible day so much brighter. You never want to say good-bye, but when you have to, you'll want to come to a place like this. read more

Birkle my long haired grey tabby cat is dying of cancer. I tried a Whitby vet cuz I moved in September from my house on victoria park avenue in the beach. I drove back to toronto to get a second opinion at beaches vet after a decision was made to euthanize at the new vet. She (my cat) has had 3 more months of good quality life under the care of Dr Dillworth. He is so nice and understanding. I feel sometimes I come to the vet in a stressed out panic and they are respectful and patient with me. Because it's dealing with a cat with end stage cancer, I am glad I drive the extra distance for a vet that is compassionate and understanding. I think when the time comes to put her to sleep that going to this vet will make it easier on me and the cat. I'd definitely recommend him and his staff. read more

Beaches Animal Hospital is filled with people who are passionate about animal care. From the receptionists, vet techs to the vets and surgeons - a deep caring for animals runs throughout. We've been clients two generations of dogs. We received an appalling level of service and medical care from an emergency vet clinic in the beaches when one of our dogs was injured. In fact, it was so bad that we questioned whether the vet was actually a vet. The vet was only interested in performing an array of tests, making you sign many guilt inspiring "refusal of tests" waivers for our dog. So much so our dog was released without bandages or antibiotics (only pain killers). This didn't feel right to us so a short time later, we took our dog to the Beaches Animal Hospital where they actually took medical care of our dog. To see what treatment they provided highlighted the lack of proper care from the other clinic. They were able to fit us in short notice, and provided real emergency services even though they are not a emergency clinic. Plus they did all of this with kindness and care for our dog and for us. We'll never take our dogs anywhere else. read more
