The register lady sort of snort-laughed derisively and said ooooh, ooo-kaay. The shopper left without making a purchase, as did my little group. 1: why did the register person feel the need to accost the shopper? 2: They lost at least 4 purchases in that moment, and I won't be back if I see that lady at the register again. And then I wonder if it was the owner at the register? 3: shops complain about losing business, but if this is what's going on, then yeah, they're losing business.
