Sep. 2015: I had a very bad experience with this dealership and would warn anyone who does not get…read morea car checked independently not to buy from Kingstown Motors in Stillorgan. I bought a used car from them and was told it was sound. Within 6 months I discovered that the front suspension system was so corroded the left wheel was about to come off its joint, then at 9 months the car wouldn't start - turns out the timing chain was so worn out it was about to snap, which would have torn through the engine. Mechanics told me that these issues were present in the car for a long time and would have been picked up in a basic service review of the car. It cost me nearly €3k to get the work done. Kingstown Motors repaid me the €375 to get the front suspension fixed after I showed them the corroded parts, but basically told me to F off for the timing chain costs. I understand that used cars will require more maintenance than new ones but these people let me drive out of the place with two potentially lethal faults on board. They say they did a full pre-sales check on the car but they either missed these items, which makes them incompetent to be selling cars, or worse, were aware of them and said nothing. Disgraceful behaviour and treatment of me afterwards. Stay away from these cowboys.

Hard to know where to start with this one…read more.. The service itself is efficient and well run so no issues there. The customer facing staff are personable and do what they do well. However, as good a machine as this place looks from the outside once you open the hood (see where I'm going here!?) you start to see not the well oiled workhorse you would expect but a collection of odds and ends whose only purpose in life seems to be to part you from your cash... and not in a job well done sort of way. Sounds a bit harsh I know but when I am quoted 190 for two front brake pads, 195 for a thermostat and 50 for a hand-break tightening, you begin to see what I'm saying. Particularly when my local garage took one look and said..." thermo is 100% fine, I replaced the front pads and tightened the handbrake.... That'll be 80 Euro please" But it is not just about the cash (though that's a lot of it), when Foster called me to talk about the work that needed doing I simply didn't believe the guy, he was evasive and unclear - particularly when it came to me probing about the thermostat... actually, that's why I went to another garage to check the prices after they called. I wanted to go to foster as I have a VW and thought a VW dealership would be the way to go, the fact is that any competent mechanic worth his salt will do the job just as well, so, there's Qs lesson for the day, shop local and shop around!!!

I've been servicing my two cars at Foster for a few years now. Coming from abroad this is the only…read moreservice I've found so far that I feel I can trust, at least around the area where I work and live (south Dublin and Wicklow). The customer service is great, and the mechanic guys at the workshop seem very professional, though I have to say that since about two years ago the quality of the service is going down. I'm convinced that the guys who knew how to replace properly a wiper are gone, since the last time they were replaced in both cars it was not a good job. Otherwise the cars are doing pretty well after each service. Well, the exception was when I had to replace front coil springs in one of the cars and one of them kept making noises for weeks after replacement. In the last service, a few days ago, I was gladly surprised when the car couldn't almost start right after the service, as the battery was very low. As soon I mentioned that to the receptionist they replaced the battery on the spot without a word and without charge. Man, that deserve kudos, and certainly will make me come back again when I was already looking for another garage for the next services. The other reality at Foster is that, yeah, is pricey. Personally I still buy trust and good service over price if not abusive. It could be argued if prices at Foster are abusive or not, but until I find a cheap garage that I can really trust in Ireland, and so far my experience with other garages are greatly disappointing, I believe that I will still be coming to Foster until the quality of the service degrades. It also helps that you get up to 30% discounts for loyalty. More kudos!
